Many people in the United States saw a solar eclipse this August. Here in New England, approximately 60% of the sun was eclipsed by the moon. It was a new experience for most who saw it. Here's my question for you: What one new experience do you hope to have this year at TA? It could be learning a new skill, doing an art or a sport you have never tried before, making an American friend, visiting a new place, or any number of other experiences.

I want to experience the independent life.
ReplyDeleteI live in the doorms (stasio) and my family lives in Spain so they are far away from me now.
I have to do my own thing, like my laundry, I have to clean my room, I have to do my bed, go to the supermarket, I don't have anybody to do those things for me or help me with those things.
Now I don't have anybody to solve my problems for me and I think I needed that.

I want to experience the hardship when studying in a different country, therefore I can continue to develop myself to a better person.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was back home in Vietnam, I got my parents taking care of me. When my health was bad, and I encountered hardships in life, my parents were always there for me. So, in this year, I have to do everything by my own, even taking care of my life. It would be a difficulty when I have to solve everything on my own, but that's a life-time experience that I would need, as it would help me to become better

ReplyDeleteWhen I was about 10 years old, I admired every time when I saw some interesting inventions on TV, and every time I was telling myself - "Someday Is will create something sismilar, or even better". So that was beginning of my path as an engineer.
ReplyDeleteI came to TA because I know that this school will help me to become an engineer. So new experience that I want to have is - engineering or construction of something (probably robots).
Also I love Robotics a lot, I used to be in school robotics team and I won several Olympiads. Another experience that I want to have in TA is - to won at least 2 robotic competitions.

I think friend is important, I hope to make more friends which are from other countries, because we can speak English with each other, it makes our speaking more fluent, and we can learn more history culture about many countries, friends can always help me a lot, we can play and study together.

This is my first time of studying abroad, I know it will be very hard and have to face with many challenges. Instead of that, i know that i will have a lot of new experiences that in my home country i have never known. One of that is making new friends from all around the world. From the first day i went to the school i had met a roommate and he comes from China , which means that it helps us a lot because we are having different languages. So we can speak English with each others and it can improve our skills more.
ReplyDeleteI think sports are very important to me. Sports make me healthier and stronger. When I was in Vietnam, I was very lazy with playing sports, and my school didn't have any sports for me to join in, so that's why I don't know how to play many sports and my health is very bad. Thornton Academy is a school that has many sports and activities, so I hope that I can join and experience lots of sports in this year.

What new experiance do I hope to have this year at TA? First of all I hope to learn more things in my different clases like photography or movie making because in my old school in Mexico I couldn't choose my favorite subjects. Other thing I hope of this year is to know new friends in the school and in the dorms and to do strong relationships with the friends I allready have of the dorms. The last thing I hope for this year is to improve my english to have better conversations with my football friends and with my school friends and also to keep studying at an american high school and maybe at an american college.

ReplyDeleteI really interesting in programming and animation making. Before now I only learned those staffs by myself, and in this school year I take few courses which are related to them. For the future, I want to take these things as a job.
For this reason, I think to experience a team work is very important. It can makes me be able to know how a professional tech team works and get used to it, then I can get well prepared for the future job, all in all it will benefit me a lot.
My dream from the young edge is American football.
ReplyDeleteI want to get 4-5 times in a week. Thornton Academy have own football team, I know a few guys who are in these team,they like it so much, in the weekends they have games . I tried to talk with teacher he said that it's so hard for me because the must of American students trained from 7-8 years old. I am going to visit practice next week but it's going to be so hard. I will find there a lot of new friends and have fun

Standard stuff is rewarded. I get it.
If you want to hear that: I want to try a new Sport find a friend (well maybe not just one), I want to see some new spots and even become a better person but one thing's for sure: I definitely wont try any freaking arts!!
I didnt really count my words so this is just in case it wasnt enough: Honestly, even though it might be utopic, I want to find a sense in the existence life besides destroying everything. Naaa this probably wont happen but better try hard and fail than never try what you could win.

I want to learn more about the different cultures between all the countries that are here in TA.
I want to be better at speaking English and be better with pronunciation.
This is my first year studying abroad, and the experience that I hope to have this year at Thornton Academy are many, but first of all I want to meet new people and make new friends.

ReplyDeleteI take physical science this year. When I walked into that classroom, I felt anxious about everything because there was only one international student and that was me . I heard my classmates chatting but out of my diffidence I didn't say a few words to them. Maybe I was too shy but all these negative emotions reflected my English proficiency. I know that it would be a hard time to get used to all these stuffs and develop myself. But life is a challenge, with my determination I believe that I will achieve my goals in a year.
This year,I hope to learn French that l have never tried before.France is a beautiful country with an artistic atmosphere. There are some classical buildings and some romantic towns.There are also some special and delicious food and friendly people.I want to visit France one day,therefore I hope to learn French this year to help me know the local culture of France and learn some daily conversation.It will also help me to understand some French movies and songs if I learn the french.Learning a new language is a challenge for me,but I believe I can overcome the problems if I try my best.
ReplyDeleteThis year I had the opportunity to learn abroad in the United States. I am a bit scared of the thing that I have to do everything alone, nut its a good way to be independent. I want to travel this year, the whole year itself is a big travel. I also want to see Maine, and other states in the US if I can. I would like to see new cities, lifestyles, how people are here.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the new experience I would like to have is visit the YellowStone National Park during my senior year because it is my dream place for traveling and I just want to roam there and take many nice photos for the gifts of my last year of high school in TA.

Finally, the last one is be responsible and knowledgeable as a TA’s student also as a growth man.
This is my second year inTA. Now I am 11th grades now. As we all now it is the most important year in high school. I want to be a designer in the future. So into a good college is the first step of my career. So one of my experience is get a good grade in SAT. I wish it can be true someday.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year to study aboard, so I really exciting about everything. But the one experience that I really want is making a American friend. Because for me, I really want to know the new culture, when I make a American friend, I think I can learn a lot from him. He can shows me a lot thing that I never see in China and he will show me the culture of America. Sometime they can lead me to the places where I never been before in Maine. I hope it can come true in some day.

I also think that TA is a great place to improve my English and become better in the sports I take and also as a person.At last I think TA will make me a mature person and will help me solve my problems without the help of my parents,because they are 3 hours flight out from here.
ReplyDeleteI already came to years, I have learned a lot of thing and skill. My goal for this year is to learn a new skill or I really want to learn how to ski, I think that is very fun, but it also looks very dangerous, it's a challenge for me. And this year is my last year at TA, so I hope I will have a good grades and go to a good university.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year studying abroad so everything seems really strange to me. When i was in my home country, I always had my parents to take care of me, even do everything for me. But now, I have to do it on my own so I have to be more independent and more responsibe. I have learned lots of new things, made new friends from all around the world. where I will have to solve personal problems by myself. Moreover, I want to experience the life
in Dorm, with other students come from many countries in the world. Other reason that I came to
Thornton Academy is because this place is a chance for me to develop all of my abilities, not
only in studying but also in outdoor activities with numbers of sport clubs. Everything is going to
be difficult this year, but I will try to get used to it as soon as possible.
Being a student at Thornton Academy is a good chance for me to try new things, interesting activities that I cannot do those things in my home country. This help me to find out and explore all of my abilities. I made a lot new friends from many coutries, I can improve my English by talking to friends. I hope I will gain experiences and fun at TA.

ReplyDeleteteacher, you can learn many things that you can not learn in the class.
I agree with that opinion, when people communicate with others, can heard other’s
experience. In other words, you can heard other’s stories, and these stories and help people to remember things more clearly than they listen boring classes.
Meet different people can heard different stories, after you get theses stories people will get the knowledge and experience that they never do and never mate. That is the key point I want to
say.
US is a new environment for me, I speak different language with local and also I have
different culture with them. That is the reason why I need that skill to have more friends who are from different country.
I would like to have some new experience in this year. I think the most one is to make a micro film with my friends. Because I want to study the movie part in the university. So i want to try something i never did before. The first step is to find someone want to don this with me. I am very interesting about the movie making (something like that). And also i want to have a good score in my junior year. I will work hard in this year because i want to to take a good college.
ReplyDeleteI hope to lean more knowledge and culture. In USA there are lot of people have different backgrounds. This is a good way to broaden my horizon. Second things is making more friends. In this way there are not only can help each other to study, but also can improve my English skills. In TA, there are so many chance to make new friends,because there are 1,500 students in the campus. The last experience that I want have in this year is independence. This is my first year in TA,so I will improve that.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year to study in America. All the things are strange to me, language, customs, humanities, etc. I need to know these, and get into the life here. First, I want to talk to the Americans boldly, tell myself don't be shy, then I think I must improve my english so much. Second, I should do everything by myself in the dorm. I need to plan my own time without my parents. Finally, I hope I will gain many in TA.
ReplyDeleteThis year is not my first year in TA. I had many wonderful experiences last year such as new friendships the independent life experience and meeting new people. Last year I my classes are not that to difficult, but this year it is not. Many of my classes are not easy for me. This year I think my new experience is to be adapt the new school year.
ReplyDelete'This year I have to work work very hard to get good grades. I have a lot work on G day, and in M day I will bring a lot of challenge. Now it was totally different from before. So this year I have to work harder than before.

ReplyDeleteBefore I came to America, I have planned a lot of things that I want to experience specially making new friends from different countries. With me this is a new experience because in China I only have Chinese friends and I had never made foreign friends before. Luckily, the first day I met a Vietnamese roommate, his name is Richard. First, he looked very miserable he didn't say anything, but after a while I started the conversation with him and I have to say until now, we are best friends and he is always nice and cute.
ReplyDeleteThe new experience that I hope to learn is how to make friends with American or the people From the other country. In Thornton academy there has huge group of Chinese people so the Chinese student know each other immediately. I play with the friends come from the same country as me everyday, so I talk with them use Chinese every single time, that will hinder me learning English. However , I join the dorm soccer team there has lots of international student and American. It's easily to make friend and talk in English.
ReplyDeleteWhat one new experience do I hope to have this year? I have one experience I really want to have since I am living Maine. I want to eat lobsters in Maine. My uncle was working in Saco. He told me the lobsters in there are really good. And my teacher told me lobsters are most famous thing in Maine. Therefore I would like to try some lobsters. I think it is the new experience I hope I can have this year.

ReplyDeleteThis is my second year at TA. Last year, I was lived in dorm . And this year,I live with home stay family. My homestay family is really good, I really enjoy to spend time with them.
ReplyDeleteIf there is a new and exciting experience I am going to have this year , I would say that is skiing with my host family. I lived in the southeast part of China , which means I never saw snow before I went aboard. I am sure skiing with my host family will be a valuable experience for me this winter.
This is the second year in TA,also is the s second year in America.Last year in the winter I joined the TA swimming team,and we got the championship in the final.
ReplyDeleteThere is a experience that I expect is I want to join the basketball this winter,and I would go fencing in Portland.I have fenced for 6 years,I don't want to give it up when I went aboard.
A total solar eclipse, it is difficult to encounter in life events. Ushered in the new year, I don't know what I am going to try, I think I do a good job now, I talk to foreigners, to participate in the varsity team, and I make a lots of foreign friends. I want to keep my own atmosphere to learning English.Try to put your English level into local level.

Last year I didn't reach my goals, such as be a striaght A student, besides that this year I also want to reach some my goals for my hobbies, for example like make 5 beat this semester and write some songs in Chinese and learn some special skills on skateboarding and improve my drawing skills there's a tons of them. But a least you know that I have piles of goals to reach and I will work really hard this year!

ReplyDeleteGoing to America, I always want to broaden my knowledge by making new friends, sharing cultures as well as to challenge myself in new things. One of my biggest challenge is to experience the life without parents, I have to acknowledge and manage my savings, furthermore, I have to do housework such as: cleaning dishes, washing clothes, etc,.. Moreover, besides from the independent life, I also want to improve my athletics skills in various sports.
This is my first year at TA. When I was in middle school, I didn't work as hard as I should. So this year, I think I will try everything and I believe my effort would be paid back. physical quality you can imagine, practice the physical quality of the method is very simple, that is, exercise through exercise, every day running or playing to exercise our body. So I joined the TA’s soccer team. In TA we have a good soccer coach. I hope this year I can enjoy soccer well in TA.
l really hope l will have some things new come up，like l hope l will have some new opinion about study and learning things more effective that will be very helpful for my grades.l am taking drawing course and sculpture art next term that could help me when l got a designing job . Actually l wont learn other sport anymore because my passion is all investment in basketball.

This is my third year at TA,I'm a junior now.This year is very important to me. I will study hard and hard,get good grades. And I also need have good SAT and TOEFL grades.I will practice hard. I think I need often communicate with foreigners and improve my English. I want to have a good score and take a good college ,so I need to work hard. I hope I will be better.
I have already came to TA three years, and this year is my third year. I'm a junior this year, I would like to learn more new experiences in this year. To be a businessman is my dream since I was a kid, can I would like to think it is a time to connect more knowledge about business. So I took the economics course this year, and plan to take the accounting and on the money coures in my next year. I think it is good for my dream and can help me have a basic knowledge about doing business.

This is my second year to study in Thornton Academy. I'm junior this year, and i would like to win a championship trophy for our soccer team. Last year i was also at soccer team still we went until final game but we lost at final game so we won 2 place, but for this year i hope we can be a champion. Also yesterday we had a first match and we won 2:0 i think we will win the trophy the start is good

Finally I want to travel to different cities in America and watch a NBA game on site.

ReplyDeleteThis, year I want to experience something new i never tried before in my life, I want to try new sport beside soccer i would like to try snowboard because i only know i to ride ski but my dad told me snowboarding is more exciting than ski and it is also extreme sport, TA gives us opportunity to fide ski or snowboard, so this year winter i will try how to ride snowboard at it will be great experience to me.

My classmates and teachers help me in the first moment when I have some ununderstood places, so I thank them very much. And I will try harder to learn English.

ReplyDeleteIn fact, it is impossible that earth will change because of one person. But there sure have something that everyone can do and it will make the earth better. For example, a common thing, we should stop throw the garbage everywhere. No one want to see a lot of garbage on the street, or park. Create a new idea to recycle garbage is scientist’s job, but what we need to do is try to Classify garbage, Keep garbage away from water sources and ecological environment. Maybe one person have really few power, but a big company might can do more. Such as stop produce the Highly contaminated product. I’m sure no one want see our earth become to the world that WALL·E lives.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little kid, I studied so hard to avoid finishing at the bottom of the class and and get good grade when the whole class had an intense learning culture. Now I am studying for my goal and ideal. I need enough knowledge and ability to achieve my goal which is to make some great video games. Also I need to get into a good college after you graduate from high school. So I can learn programming and video games design more deeply. I will keep achieving my goal no matter what.
