- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.

ReplyDeleteIt’s my first time to be the first one who just publishes the journal.
ReplyDeleteIt is the last journal, I have a lot of things to say.
I can’t believe my Sophomore year almost over. This is my second year here. I still can remember the first day that I came to TA. I was nervous and scared. The time goes very fast, and life always leaves us without voice. Back in time when I first stepped in the campus, it was a dark chilling night. I was so shy to talk to any strange stuff in the dorm, and I didn't know how to complete an English sentence and how to express what I want. Now, I am feeling so free to the English ambience. I couldn’t find my old shadow anymore, and I have a great change since I got to TA. But the thing I never charge is I miss my family.
Without my family, I become more mature and more independent. I made lots friends here. They gave me hands when I couldn’t get over the troubles. They stayed with me when I didn't have a good mood. They comforted me when I had bad temper. Very appreciate them. TA likes my second family. Friends, dorm parents and lots of fabulous teachers accompany me.
Summer vacation is coming, I am looking forward to go home. So excited that I am going to see my family and my friends, and very happy that I can eat some good food at home. I will tell them all the great and amazing experience I have during the school year at TA.
I am very sad that the seniors are leaving us in couple days. Hope they all can go to their dream college and feel happy in their new life.
Next year, I am going to be a Junior, it will be the most important year for me. I hope I can work harder and get a good score for SAT and TOFEL.
And also, I need to say “thank you” here to Mr. Griffin. You are so nice and very patient to us. I am so lucky to have you as my teacher in my life. Thank you for you guidance, friendship, and even for you discipline, and thank you for talking the time to be my friend. I learned so much in your class. Haha… Not kidding, ELL 3 is my favorite class at TA. Will miss this class and Mr. Griffin.
Whatever how the things around us would change, I still believe everything will become better! Hope everyone have a great summer, and enjoy the time with your family.

DeleteEvery day, we make hundreds of choices. We choose what to wear, what to do when we get home from work or school, and how to respond when someone makes fun of us. Sometimes we also make big decision, such as what kind of school to go to and I came here in TA. It was such a great honor to be here. I hadn't so much fun but I had the chance of knowing other cultures. It helps me understand myself and what should I do in my future. One way, I feel regretful but I know I will never be able get a education like this in my country. Is it worth it or not? I am not sure, maybe. For me nothing in here feel me good and real. We are living in the dorms but we have no idea who are we living with. I don't thing I enjoy being in here because I feel like everything and everyone is fake for me. However, I have no doubt about the education system in here, it is totally amazing. İf I had a chance, I would never come back here. I couldn't use to people in here, some reason I couldn't find what I am looking for. Maybe I can only come back for a better study conditions but not in TA. I am sorry. Furthermore, for living my life, I am never going to be abandon my country, my family, my home, my friends and my dog again. I am pretty sure about that. On the other hand it was such a good thing that discover and experience it. Now I know myself better and I know what I can be capable of.

In this year, I make some new friend, but not too many because they are too young. The most bad thing for me is my roommate are going to university, he is my best friend. Sometime we was happy, and sometime we was so silly, but this all is my best memory this year. Hope the summer vacation, i can have fun with my friend, and next year, i can go to a good university.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year at TA. It was a wonderful year, I made a lot of friends. Also took a lot of classes, I joined a lot of clubs, I performed in the concert. Every thing was new to me, different country, different languages, different family. It was my first time stay with home stay, it was really fun experience, I love my home stay parents, they're so nice to me. In the summer vacation, I'm planning speak English with my brother every day, that I can practice my English! And also, next year I'll have a lot challenge classes, so I'll take some after school classes. I'm really look forward to next school year, to learn new knowledge and work with new teacher. But I won't forget Mr. Griffin!
ReplyDeleteThe time is running fast. This is end of my freshman year. I can still clearly remember when I came TA. Here's some goals that I make for the following school year, loosening more weight, keep my GPA above 4.0, etc. Anyway, the resolution I have for next year is great. And I bet everyone is almost the same.

DeleteSo many things happened around me during this year. For this journal, I have a lot of things to talk. When I first come to this school in 2016, I realize TA is totally different from my old school. TA is much bigger than the school I took in Canada. There are more students, more international students and more classes to chose. I spent a funny year in TA. I met so many nice people here. However, I don't want to go back and recall all these things. I want to look up the future. During this coming holiday, I will go to shanghai and study SAT. I hope that I can try my best to improve my English and get a better grade in SAT. I will control myself. Not only am I working for my myself, but also for other people I care.
ReplyDeleteDuring 2016-2017,it is a uncomfortable year for me.I study hard in Xiguan foreign language school in the first semester in Guangzhou .Actually,it is horrible time,because I wake up at 6 am ,then go to school immediately.I come back home until 9 pm.I study all the time without getting active.I am not satisfied with my life,even I get the top of 15 in 400 students.I feel bored about the education in China.Then I determined to study in USA.At first,because of language disability,I was shy and seldom talked with my classmates.I am afraid they didn't understand what I said.They looked confusing what made me embarrassed.As the time went by,I got used to the life here.I am confident to face all the problem and try my best to improve my speaking and listening.The summer vacation approached,I will come back to China . At the end of June,I intend to travel to Yunnan province ,which is located in the south-west of China. Then in July,I plan to do some volunteer work like librarians and read some English fiction.At the rest of vacation,I will study English and keep on memorizing English Words in order to get ready for TOEFL or SAT test.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year in TA.It was a perfect year!I harvested lots of things here.I studied hard this year,I feel like it's easy to get A in every classes.I want to get same good grades in next year(Sophomore).Also I want to practice my writing in next year,and read more books.To take part in a sport.In this year I've had a few times late to hand in an assignment,I want to get rid of this shortcoming in next year.And now I had Prepared for the exam well,so I wouldn't have failed.I'll use this summer holiday time to read and preview for next year.I hope everything is going wonderful in next year!
ReplyDeleteI had a good life in TA this year, I live in dorm and meet a lot of friends, and every week we have activities that we can join, so I have a good life in dorm. The every week day I went to have class, teach doing great on teaching us, and I got good grade on every course and learn a lot. Next year I will have course that is challenge for me so I need to pay more time on them, and I will join some activities. Hope I will have a good life next year.
ReplyDeleteI have been TA for half a year. It's a pretty good time. There are a lot of unforgettable things remaining fresh in my memory. I still can remember the first day when I came to TA. It's a quite different life for me. Everything was strange. Luckily, I met a lot of friends at TA. They helped me a lot. In this summer vacation, I will have the SAT and TOEFL class. It's a tough time, but I won't give up. I will work hard for my dream college. Next year , I will be a senior, I will have a lot of things to do. It will be a very busy year. I have been ready for the next year.
ReplyDeleteTimes fly, I will be a junior next year. I expect my future, but can't believe that my sophomore year is almost end this time. I spent my sixteen birthday this year; I learned to be more independent and diligent this year; I studied hard this year; I made a lot of friends this year; I grow up this year; etc. I will remember all things that I solved, and all challenges that I met.
ReplyDeleteIt's in summer now, and our school year is almost done. By this time, we should look forward to arrange our vacation. Because I become a junior, this summer time is important for me of learning sat and my subjects. So I think I will be busy and substantial in this summer. I'm ready to go home now.
This year is my first year at TA. I learn many new things, and it was great. It's already been a year, i think time is really fast. I will go England next year, I can’t come TA next year. I will miss my friend and homestay parents. When I come here I am not good at English, but now seems to have improved. If anyone comes here, you can be sure that at least your English will improve. I'm going home next Wednesday, and I have a good experience at TA this year.
ReplyDeleteMy first year in TA during 2016-2017. It was pretty fun here. Many students said time go really fast this year. I have a lot of new friends during the year. It's have many surprises happened this year. I was leaning English everyday here. When I first comes here. I don't even can speak English to order the food in the restaurant. But it's going well on my English skill now. And the style of education there is a lot different from my hometown. I don't like it at all. But I am enjoy it. It bring some differences to me. I am leaving next Tuesday. And I will still learning English when I back home.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to go home, I'm looking forward to recall the environment, even if it has any change, there still is the place where I grew up, I miss foods, I miss old friends, but I made many friends here, they are very good, but not too futher I only find good friends now sitting in front of me, because I am writing the journal in the coffee shop, here left a lot of memories there are good and bad, but I always have a optimistic heart, regardless of the outcome, as long as serious about life, enjoy life, you will experience the fun of the life.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the time going that fast. This is my first semester in America. I still remember the first day I came to TAMS and sat in the class room thinking about " I can't believe that I already came to America!" But now, the school year came to the end. I'd like to say that I faced a lot of challenges when I first got here. The language, the relationship with teacher and new friends, the brand new way for study and living. However, I think I get most of them well. I will remember the first time I wrote an essay here, I was a lot behind other students in my class, I have a really hard time to got the essay done. But now, I can mostly follow them well. Next semester I will go to TA and I take the regular freshman English class, so I am looking forward to work hard on my language at this summer. I will be an excellent student in TA next year.
ReplyDeleteThis year was fast. I can still remember how nervous and excited I was when I first came to Thornton Academy. In the past year, I've experienced something I would've never ever experienced in China. I studied with students from all over the world in one classroom, I spent my Thanks Giving night with an American family, I was so grateful to them for inviting me to join in that dinner and to my parents for providing me such a great opportunity to get into American life. Summer is coming in few days. In this summer, firstly I'm going to keep speaking English to improve my English skills, im also going to play tennis, learn playing guitar, and do some other interesting and meaningful things to make my summer wonderful.

ReplyDeleteThis year has been so long to me, I had so many things that was impressive. For example, I had a awesome track experience this year. I would still run track next year, and try to be qualified to state champion. The studying of this year was tough to me, but I will be better next tear. When I go back to China this year, I would study for SAT. Even though it's all about studying, I still look forward to it.
It was my first time in the first year of Thornton and the United States. The first time to control the money, the first time a person travel, skiing and so on. I grew up a lot, the first time away from their parents living alone, began to adapt to some, do not want to do anything. But gradually began to change, no parents, I learned a lot of their own never before the skills. Came to the United States like a risk, every day there are fresh things happen every day to face different situations, let us grow up, learn how to deal with emergencies. Also learned a lot of American history. Adapted to American life. In this holiday, I would like to set a new goal, do more volunteer activities, practice their own English. So I wish you good luck. Have their own goals to do.
ReplyDeleteTHis is my first year as a TA student. That is probably what I will remember the most throughout the summer. When I get back home this summer, the first thing I will do in this summer is making a plan for the whole summer so that i will not miss any thing in the summer, i will create a list of things i want to do before returning to the U.S. This is the first time I do this and it should be the most memorable things in this summer.
ReplyDeleteTime flies, I already came TA 3 years. When I first time came, I'm just little boy who doesn't know anything, and in this 3 years I felt I grew up and learned a lot from everyone at here. TA have too many memories of me and my friends. But when we move on to the future, I'm not sure yet, but this summer I definitely know, I will go back home and study for the SAT test this fall, and be peppers all of work I need to attend for college.
ReplyDeleteI have been here for a year. I cannot believe I'm going to be a sophomore in September.. I am looking forward to have a traveling in summer. And to eat a lot of good food. And I was very happy to stay in TA. I leaned a lot of things such as skate, skiing, tennis, and programing. Also I have improved my English. It's the most special year I have ever had. And I expect that the next three years will be more colorful.

I will be a junior next year, I think I need to work harder in junior, i finished my schedule, only the more effort i can be my grades getting better. This is my first year in TA, there are many things that are my first contact, this is a new attempt, this year I am very hard to learn, and make a lot of friends. I have arranged my holiday plan, I think this holiday is busy.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year study in TA, I learn a lot and gain a lot. In TA I make more friendships and I experience American homestay. When I come back I will be a sophomore. I need study hard and I can't play computer games all the time. This summer vacation I will go to gym everyday and I need practice my English speaking too.
ReplyDeleteIt's my first year in TA. I experienced a lot new things this year. For example it's my first trying to join the sport team even though I failed. I join the math team this year it's a really good experience I gain a lot of math knowledge outside the class. Next year I will be a senior so I gonna study SAT and Toefl for whole summer. It will be a busy summer.

ReplyDeleteI learned a lot this year. My English improved and I learned something new about math and science. I felt like this year was flying by. I was always saying that a day and another day then the year will be gone! Now the summer is coming, I'm really looking forward to that because I miss my family a lot. It's kind hard to stay away from your family for a long time. This year was a good year for me. The shame was that I didn't get perfect grades in semester one. I will try hard next year.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty good year, we played on the beach, attending to the international fair and so on. For me, I was very proud of myself, because I was win the track state championship. I was so happy and excited and I also hope that I will have a good grade for next year and to apply a good college.

ReplyDeleteIn a few words, this year was good, I learned lots of stuff, Improved my English and made way more friends. I don't expect a lot from this summer, it will probably be like my last one last year, but going further, I hope that next years school year is much better than this one.
