- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
I don´t really care about ebooks because I don´t use to read but I think that in the war that ebooks have versus the books will be always alive because the smell and touch that the books have will make them to be still alive and the ebooks are a new way of reading that atracts a lot of people because is lighter and because the book is cheaper, like I say at the beginning I don´t really care because I don´t use to read, but I think that both of them will stay alive for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI both like to use my iPhone and ink book. That's according to what kind of book. Devices are more fast to get and more convenient to bring. I always use my iPhone to see the news, some novel or some book that is really hard to find. I will read the ink book for some very great novel or book that I really like. I want keep those ink book. I will see them for a lot times. I think I will use devices to see what I need but I will use ink book to see what I enjoy.

ReplyDeleteI like ink book better. When I read a book with I-Paid, my eyes get tired easily and become dry fast. So I don't like to read E-books. Actually, if I read a book with I-Paid, I can search words that I don't know easily, because I can copy that word and just paste on the internet. That is so confident function. But I still prefer to read ink book. I used to read ink book. My school text books were all ink books. So when I study with i-Paid, my feeling is not comfortable.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I prefer reading on the paper. To begin with, we always take a lot of time for reading, if we use computer or ipad with reading for a long time, it is bad for your eyes. Secondly, printing book is so convenient. If reading for studying, when you want to take some notes, or write down some idea or comments, printing book is your best choice. And the printing books are more protection for your eyes than computer, iPad. Finally, in the ancient dynasty, we didn't have ipad or computer, we only have printing book. This is the oldest way for reading!

I'm one of the people who don't like to read books but I can't negate the benefit of reading books by having more knowledge or improving our English as a non-English speaker. The winter is coming and I rather staying in bed than going outside. I want to read book, but short story, not a novel. If I read any book, that book is on paper, which means the real book, not eBook on the electronic devices. Having a real book is better than having on iPad, iPhone,... because we can read anywhere we want to, on a hill, at somewhere doesn't have internet or no electronic.

I always read on my phone because it is easy. A real book is heavy and big. I like to read at free time and I don't want to bring a real book everyday. I read on my phone but it is bad for my eyes. My mum always asks me to read a real boom but I don't have time go to book store. Fore ebook, you can find everything online and sometimes books are free. I think ebook is better. However, a real book is more like a book. They are both good.

ReplyDeleteEbook have lots of advantages.Some people think you can't bring lots of books while you are traveling or on vacation.If you’re on the go a lot, you know how heavy regular titles are, particularly if you intend to finish one book while you are out and need to bring another book with you. However,ebooks allow you to bring a whole library with you wherever you go.
Ebooks are often cheaper in the long run because there are no printing fees associated with them. And when you buy an eBook, your reward is instantaneous. Whereas if you order a book online you have to wait for it to arrive before the fun begins.
However I still like reading traditional paper books.As for me,I always use iPad to do my homework or something else.They all cost batteries.So I can't read for a long time on my iPad.And I like marking on my book while I am reading.It's not easy for me to do it on iPad.
What's more, you’re never going to get that comforting smell of paper or the weight of a good book in your hands when you read an ebook. And while you can flip ahead in an eBook, you can’t do so in a matter of seconds and flip right back to your page.And as for me,I like putting my books on my bookshelves.I think it's a good way to ornament my room.
Yes,and I always feel that I am going to be blind when I spend a long time on ebooks.
ReplyDeleteI don't read too much but if I have a choice to read : a real book or ebooks I would choose a real book without hesitation because -Antique books are amazing, you can’t get an e-book signed , Libraries and bookstores , books don’t die and you can share a book . For me at the winter I prefer to read a book around the the fire than a ebooks .
ReplyDeleteBooks are the ever-burning lamps of accumulated wisdom. Nowadays people can use many different ways to read books, but I still like to read books printed on the paper. Ebooks are more convenient, but they are bad for eyesight. Traditional paper is easy to be broke, but there are some reason for many people still enjoy the comfortable that it brings to them, I am one of them.

In my opinion, I think E-book is a thing which can make reading become much easier. I can download E-books easily. I can carry an E-book everywhere because it's light and small. I even can read an E-book through my smart phone. However it is not really good for my eyes. But it is super stupid to have a book with me everywhere. They are heavy and useless and I need to have a backpack with me everywhere if I want to take books. I prefer read E-books. I feel so cool when I have my E-book beside me. It seems a whole library is in my hand and I feel I become the most intelligent person in the world I ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI prefer ink books,because I can focus on the book. Actually I am reading now, one is ink book,the other is in the iPhone. In my opinion, I can pay attention in the ink book,and it can protect my eyes. On the other hand, when I open my iPhone, I always use to play game or wechat( wechat likes Facebook). I can't stat reading,but I can read when I want to read. It is easy to read for me,because everyone takes iPhone everyday. However, if I read in the phone, and my eyes feel uncomfortable. So I like ink book.

Ebooks and traditional paper books
Books, providing readers with pleasure, glory and talent, have become an indispensable part of people’s daily lives. Some people conceive that reading on digital devices is the best way to read, while others hold the opposite views. There are, from my perspective, both advantages and disadvantages of traditional paper books and ebooks.
For one thing, the cost of ebooks is much lower than that of traditional paper books. With the development of technology, it takes readers far less money to purchase ebooks. It is universally acknowledged that the more paper books are produced, the more trees need to be cut down. As the saying goes, “A thing is valued in proportion to its rarity.” As the forest shrinks, lumber prices go up, and higher prices for traditional paper books are bound to result. For instance, I have been reading a book called Divergent recently. When purchasing the book, I found that a paperback edition of this book was priced at $ 12.99. However, when I read it on a digital device called iBooks, I just need to pay $ 5.99 for this engrossing book. Apparently, the price of this ebook is only half of that of the paperback edition. Thus the low price of ebooks is one of the significant reasons that currently there is a growing tendency for people to read on digital devices.
For another, reading traditional paper book is more in line with people’s reading habits. Traditional paper books facilitate writing in. Readers can take notes to record the spark of their thoughts at any time. However, when reading on digital devices, it is quite inconvenient for the majority of the elderly to take notes in time for the reason that it is really difficult for them to keep up-to-date on their skills. Additionally, plenty of people hold the view that traditional paper books are collectable. My grandfather have been collected various paper books for at least 40 years. He has more than 500 paper books. He insists on the idea that reading traditional paper books is the best way to read because of paper books’ high quality paper and typesetting. “Holding paper books is like handing crafts.” My grandfather always describes high quality paper books vividly, touching their exquisite covers gently.
To sum up, I would like to reinforce my standpoint that traditional paper books and ebooks have both advantages and disadvantages. We should bear in mind that it’s necessary for us to choose different types of reading on different occasions. Only in this way can we make better use of the valuable reading resources.
I prefer e-book than traditional paper book. First, E-book is more convenience than traditional paper book, because E-book is more easier to carry. For example, people can download a e-book their own phone, so they won't need to carry the heavy book and they can read book at anytime. Second, if people are reading a foreign language book, it is much more easier for them to look up the dictionary. For example, I don't understand the meaning of a sentence. If I am reading a E-book, then I can select this sentence and paste it on the translation website. And I don't need to waste my time to type this sentence.
ReplyDeleteI think the electronic devices are more useful than a book Since it is much thinner and fit many books. but there are people who like to read the book, I do not care the truth. the disadvantage of ebook is that it is not good for the eyes, while the book does not harm the eye. the advantage of e-book is that it weighs a lot less size is smaller and can have many books. but still prefer the regular book
ReplyDeleteI prefer the real book better. Theresa are many reasons. But it doesn't mean I don't like read some paragraph on the phone or computer. Yes, I like to read paragraphs not books on the technology machines, eyes will hurt absolutely. This is one reason. Phones and computers will don't have power but papers will not. If there is a book I really like, I will read it for several times and do some notes on it, some apps also can do notes now, but it is not convenient enough. And the other reason is E-books will encounter from the shelves some times.

DeleteI prefer paper books then ebooks. When I touched paper books, I feel very comfortable, They have a kind of warm feeling. In my hometown, there had a lot of bookstores, but more and more advanced technology and more and more people use ebooks. My favorite bookstore closed down. Many bookstores also failed. At many times if you want to buy a book which is hard to find, you can only search and buy it online. I have a very strong obsessive-compulsive disorder on books. I can not allow people graffiti on my book. Also I don’t like to see the book being torn. I love the feeling of writing on paper books. I hope to retain the paper books, please don’t let ebooks to instead them. I really don’t want to look at the ebooks, they have no temperature. For our health, ebooks are more damage to our eyes, but the paper material with lighting effect is more conducive to relieve visual fatigue. I think when you see the pages of the book are decreasing, that can bring some people’s reading achievement and increasing people's desire to read. I love paper books, I hope it doesn’t disappear.

You don't need to worry about your book will no power , you can read the book every time . I prefer search a interesting book on line and buy a real book to read ,because I like collect book . I am used to reading ink book. Although eBooks are more convenience to carry than traditional paper book, I still prefer to read ink books. First, I think the eBooks have some disadvantage for our health. And it’s unhealthy to staring direct at the light from the electronic product. It’s harmful to eyes, if you read books with an iPad for more than half hour. And I think it is a terrible thing to reading a book with a icy screen under snow weather as Mr. Griffin. Another reason makes me like ink books is that the ink books have special pleasing quality. It’s more easily to make some notes in the book and label some feelings about the books. But some ink books are too heavy and I can’t read ink books without lights at night.

I like to read, but I don't like to read in paper books, it's boring. I prefer in watt pad , is an app of books that you download on your phone or I pad and read on it. It's better because if you are bored in a dinner instead of taking out the book, take out your I phone.
ReplyDeleteI don't read much, but when I'm reading, I prefer the traditional book. I just like the feeling when I flip the paper, it's like you can't wait to see what's gonna happen on the next page, I think that's how reading suppose to be. And also, I don't like read on electric device, that make me feel dizzy, and it's bad for the eyes, that's why a lot of Ebook try to make their page look like real paper. Anyway, reading on traditional book is my choice.
ReplyDeleteI don’t like ebooks. Nowdays more and more people start to use ebooks, but for me the book make by traditional paper, cloth and ink books is the “real book”. Cause the traditional book can give us some important things that ebook haven’t.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all a traditional book is a gentleman, he is very tender and always make the reading comfortable and convenient. Sometimes I may forget some characters’ name or what do they do, at this time gentleman will shake his body and go back the page that I want as fast as he can. Ebooks is more like a chuff at this time, the internet and his heavy body will let “go back” this action become very messy and always waste a lot of time. Our gentleman also can allow us to play with him in every the place, everytime. If the story is too scary to read, gentlemen will hold your hand let you feel you are not alone. A traditional book is my friends and he is very gentle, he always think form my way.
Although nowdays ebooks have a lot of function that traditional haven’t, such as some review from all kinds of readers, easy to take when you have a phone or the other electric staff you can read a lot of books. But the ebooks lost a very important things-----Traditional. As a Chinese I have a very deep emotion on papers, I would never forget my primary school teacher give me the first chinese text book. Nothing can destroy the feeling of reading with touching the paper. Long time ago human invent the paper and we still use it now there are more than 3000 years history about the paper. The electric staff let people’s life easier, it instead of a lot of things and make our life better, but I think it can’t instead the traditional book, cause some traditional can’t be change. I don’t want to forget the feeling of finish a book, sometimes when I back home and watch the book that I finish in the bookshelf, I will feel so the accomplishment and remember my father always said to me “When I was young your grandfather buy books for me to read, cause the book in different Era always have different feeling of author that he want to share to us, whatever the kind of book is, you can find the situation of the author’s Era is, some is in war, some is in peace. Everybook in the bookshelf is not just tell people that story, it also tell the people how the world is change.It’s invisible traditional for the human. All the books is the piece of the human’s mind history” So everyime when I want to feeling war, I will read some authors’ book that he write in a War Era.
To read a traditional book is a kind of collect different kind of Era people’s mind, and he is very gentle too. So in my opinion the ebook can’t instead the traditional book, cause it have some important things that the ebooks don’t have.
I used to read books in my free time and i prefer the traditional paper more than the digital version. You put alot of e-books in your digital device but the physical feel of the paper is what make me like traditional book more.
ReplyDeleteI like reading. It's a part of my life. I like reading the traditional paper. When I was in China, I usually make a cup of tea, take a book and go outside in afternoon. With sunlight, enjoy the book time. Though the real book is hard to bring, but the traditional paper give me the real feelings. When I was a child, I usually went to the bookstore, stayed there for all day. That's a good time. However the digital version is more popular than traditional paper, but it is bad for our eyes. I don't like reading online.
ReplyDeleteI think I will chose ink books just because of the wont, I’ve been reading for 5 years, so I just like the way to study knowledge from the ink book. But sometime, I have to say that advance technology can help us a lot, especially on the train or bus, if I want to read something during the trip, I can chose ebook to read, they are convenient to bring, and convenient to read, but also, there is one of the biggest problem is that ebook is really bad for our eyes, especially teenagers.
ReplyDeleteInk books are inconvenient to bring, but they are more conducive to preservation, I can just put them in the bookcase, and whenever I want to read them, I can find them as quick as I can. You know, some good books aren’t enough that you just read once, so I’d better want to chose ink books because I can find them and read them quickly after my first reading.
I prefer to read e-book instead of paper book due to the following reasons.

Second,paper books cost more money than e-book.For example,a paper book may cost me $20 to buy it,while the same book on the internet cost me $0 to read!It help me saves $20!It’s totally worth.
In the end,I believe that e-book is the best way for me to read.It can save the environment and save my money.
I like the real book than ebook, but I agree the ebook is more convenience and useful than real book. Before I know that we can read the book on internet, one of my hobby is collecting books, and I always spend much time and money for getting whole parts of the novel. Nowaday I don't buy a cloth and ink book for a very long time, and I almost forget that when I bought my last real book. The benefits of ebook cause me abandon the real book, but if someone asks me what kinds of do you like, my answer must be the real book. I like real book, but my idleness doesn't agree me to own it.
ReplyDeleteI like the paper book more than ebooks. I enjoy the feeling that I though the paper book and I like the smelling of the paper book. I didn't read a lot book, but every time when I read the paper book, I can feel like I'm looking at the writer. Ebooks don't have life but paper book does. Ebooks can't compre with paper book, paper book can make me feel like what the writer feeling when he was writing the paper. I love the paper book more the ebooks.

ReplyDeleteIt's getting really cold nowadays. And I'd love to lie on the bed with a cup of hot black coffee and a book then just be relax. A real book will be my first choice since I can make a lot of notes by using different colors of pens and put stickers on. And to be honest, I could never be a "good student" if I have my electronics in my hands.

I don't have one mode favorite, because it depends of the moment and many other things. For example, if I'm going to do a long travel, I prefer have the books on my ebook because it occupy less space and I can have more books. But, if I'm going to be at home, I prefer have books printed in paper because is bad for the eyes look a long time for a screen, and because for me, is funny read a long book, and while I am reading, see that the number of pages to read decreases and pages reads increases.
ReplyDeleteI love ebook so much! I download a lot of book to my kindle and it's very convenient to use it instead of paper book when I am in some situation. For example, if I am on a subway, ebook is much easier to carry. But I still love the feeling to read a actual paper book when I am free and in my own space. That makes me feel good:D

I don't care people use book or paper book, but I think it both have advantage. People use ebook, that can save many papers. It is really good for environment. ReplyDeleteI think the e-book is a great invention in the 21st century. People like watching movie, reading book on the ipad, and TA gives everybody an ipad for help us study this year, and teachers put homework on the ebackpack , and the students do the test on the ipad. It’s a good way to study. Students don’t need take lots of book go to school everyday, but I’m not really like to use ipad to do homework and take a test. I love feeling to touch the paper, and it’s terrible things to writer on the ipad. The e book just good for reading and watching movies, not for studying.

ReplyDeleteAs we all know,with the development of science and technology,electronic books are becoming more and more popular.They have some advantages.They are rich in contents with beautiful colors and interesting sounds.But they also have some disadvantages.They need electricity.They can do harm to our eyes if we keep reading them for a long time,and they are more expensive. In my opinion,electronic can't replace the traditional books.The reasons are as follows.First,a traditional book can be read everywhere,it does need electricity.Second,it is cheaper and is good to our eyes.

ReplyDeleteI like reading on Kindle because the books are pretty expensive. Books are very hard to carry. They are very heavy. If you have Ipad or Kindle you can download from some website. That is for free, or you only need to pay a few money. So I like reading on Kindle.

I like to read regular books, because read regular book, I can truly tuch the book, even I can smell the book. I like the aroma from the book.on digital devices I only can see the cold words on the screen and I can feel no temperature on the screen. Only true books makes me enjoy reading.

ReplyDeleteI really like to read and I have to say that I do not care if I read a book or on iPad or Kindle. It just depends on the situation. Where am I or how am I feeling. I think that Kindle or IPad is ideal for traveling. It is not big nor small. Every time I travel somewhere, whether it is by car or plane, I use IPad to read. The other good thing is that you can have as many books as you want on IPad. But reading a book is like something special for me. It is totally diferent. Always when I have a free time I can sit somewhere with my favorite book and I can stop thinking about anything that is going on at that moment.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I still prefer the old style of reading. However, I admit that reading book on phone or laptop is more convenience than original book. But I have read a lot of book since I was young. In addition, reading book by real book make you read better because your eyes is less tied than on electronic screen.
