Journal Question #18 (2010-2011)
A terrible shooting took place over the weekend in Tucson, Arizona. A 22-year-old man shot 17 people at a political meeting, killing 6 people, including a 9-year-old girl. His main target was a US Representative named Gabrielle Gifford, whom he shot in the head; she survived, however, and is in critical condition. Clearly, this man was a disturbed individual, and many people think he should not be allowed to own a gun, especially an automatic weapon that can fire many bullets quickly. What's your opinion about gun ownership? Who can own guns in your country? Do you feel America should restrict gun sales?

I'm very sorry to hear that news.
ReplyDeleteBut I think everyone could have their own gun because sometime they might need the gun to protect themselves from being hurt. Some people might think they have no need to keep a gun. But imagine someone try to use a knife to hurt, the only thing can protect yourself is not use another knife but a gun.
In my country, China, no one can have their own gun. It's now allow to have an own gun in the house. Policemen can have a gun but the gun is belong to the country. After the retire or leave their job, they need to give it back to the country.
Although I think people could have their own guns, I still think that America should restrict gun sales.It will put their citizens in danger with overly gun sales.

ReplyDeleteFirst I feel very sorry about this sad event. Having guns or not, it depends on how people use it. Good people will only use it to protect themselves from dangerous situations, bad people will use it to hurt others. So it is relative, is not absolute.
ReplyDeleteAnd in my country which is China, we are not allowed to carry with a gun.It is not legal,because there are more people than you can image.If you walk on the street, and all pedestrians have a gun, it will be very dangerous.
I don't think America should restrict gun sales, like what I have just said,it counts on the way to use guns, and it is nothing to do with the salespeople.

ReplyDeleteTo start i would like to say that US economy is based on the army and weapons industry. this country has become rich because of the wars, thats why throughout the entire history America has participated in many wars. Now there is another rule that u can have a weapon if you are older than 21 (i think) no matter why you want it, you can buy it. You can even buy one in a supermarket, that's hilarious. What is wrong with this country?? is everyone going crazy??
ReplyDeletewhen these kinds of things happen people get surprised, and i think why they don't think that these things will happen when the weapons seller sells guns to everyone, even to the craziest man ever. if u walk through slums you can even see eight-year-old children with automatic guns. It makes me sick.

ReplyDeleteEverything can be the weapons to kill people, but gun is the most dangerous weapon. It won't give victims any chance to escape. I know there is no way can protect people from crime, but I don't think allows people have their own gun can reduce the number of crime.
Gun is the inevitable product of the times. What the government do is to keep these dangerous weapon away from the society. To promote the tools of violence is gone, crime will disappear.
In my country, just the leaders' bodyguards, soldiers and the police can own guns. I feel America should restrict gun sales because sometimes the criminals just advocating violence and mad. It's dangerous to let a violent person has gun. That just my opinion, maybe the government have other purpose.
I think the gun have two side,one is good one is not good ,the good one is that the gun can help us protect from bad people an d the animal that can make you hurt.But the bad one is that if the guy who buy the gun and keep the gun is a bad guy which like the guy who wanted to kill the a US Representative ,that's the bad way and if I keep the gun I won't do any ting wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn China we can't buy the gun and keep it although you are a soliders or even a police these two kind of person can only use the gun when there is a events,and we can't have the gun in China if we have the gun and keep it we will be cought buy the police.That's the way we have the gun in China.
it s such a sad news. and i even heard it back to China. i don't think the government should sell guns to people. and in china only the government have guns. i think that way is much more safe. it s kind of scary that you can buy gun easily in America. i think that s why there s so many the same case in America too

ReplyDeleteA few days ago, my friends was anxious to ask me the situation. I was totally confused why he will ask me about that. He told me this news and worried about me. I said I am fine.
I don't agree everyone has right to own a gun. It is a dangerous tool which can cause many accidents. The most importance thing is it can kill others. Those people have nothing to do with you. It's totally unfair.
In my country, if you own a gun, but you are not a policeman, it's a crime. You can't own a gun even though you are very rich. It makes sure our safety in general.
But every country has their own law. So if you ask me it's a good thing or not to have gun ownership, I will say, it depends.
I think gun ownership is depends on the different situation that different country has. Like in America, people can owe guns legally. But in china people can't , because there is 1.3billion people live in china. That would be a disaster if people can buy guys legally. But that also could be a big problem for America, just like what happened on this US Representative. But guns can also help people to protect themselves when they are in danger. So when guns bring security to people also brought danger. But for me , i think people should not owe guns legally. Because i think gun ownership can bring more danger than security, when you in trouble you can call police for help. But gun ownership make police always in danger when they do their jod.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion United States 's congress should make some Federal law to limit that gun use because, If they didn't control the gun use. In some states people will feel unsafe. So I think If they make some Federal law, people will feel safer. Also I feel sad about this news. Because an US Representative is a important character is the political system. So If she die, some topic won't be discuss.

ReplyDeleteI think it is not good to let everyone has guns. When everyone else has guns it is better to have own guns. In order to keep yourself safe.
In China, only armed policemen are equipped with guns. And they won't be allowed to carry guns around without permissions. People like I haven't even be able to touch a really gun yet.
I recommend to restrict gun sales, especially when the buyer is under the age of 25. A research showed that people under the age of 25 are bad at control themselves. They do things without enough thinking. They may do things just because of a reasonable actuation.

The ownership of guns are different in different countries. It is not allowed in my country.
In my opinion, the gun is one of the weapons that can protect ourselves. But we really really need to control ourselves. I konw many people can do this, but I don't think all the people can do this well.
So, I believe that if they stop selling guns, the world will be more save. And I think the only people who can own guns are the people who need guns for their job, such as policeman.
Also, I think that America should restrict gun sales.
I think this news is so sad and in my opinion these things should not happen. I know that guns are very important part of the history of United States but I do not like the laws that make everybody able to buy a gun.
ReplyDeleteI think that our world unfortunatly has too many bad and crazy people that they can go to a shop and buy a gun like buying a cake. It is too easy in my opinion and I know that this causes a lot of problems in this country.
Of course I believe in the power of guns because I am a hunter and I know the way to use one. I also know how guns can be very dangerous. For example in Spain you will never hear, read or see a problem like this that happened in Arizona.
In conclusion I think that United States´s goverment must make some changes with gun laws.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, people should own the guns. Because I believe that the American goverment allow their people use guns becasue they know the guns' function is to protect themselves. A gun's duty supports to protect us and others but killing others or hurting people. although i don't like guns and never hope to have a gun forever, i still think there is no fault to own a gun.
ReplyDeletebut the goverment should give people more education about how to use a gun correctly, why we use a gun and make strict law to control people use the gun. also, there should be someone to teach people some skill about use a gun.
People say that they own guns is for protect themselves but i think it's more dangerous if everyone who live around you has a gun. That's why i don't think people should own a gun for themselves. AS I know, in China people cannot own a gun for ourselves but the soldiers can have a gun because they have been trained for a long time and they can control themselves. In our country, we can't use the gun for any times, ever the policeman can't shoot the criminal if he didn't get the permission. But in the U.S, everyone is able to has a gun. That is not under low in the U.S .When American began to make up the gun is force to the government if they are going to corruption, the people will use it to subvert the government. The gun is signify the force and power for people, it is Human Rights. But i have seen this new since the ELL class. U.S. has the same amount of registered vehicles and estimated guns in civilian's hands.Guns are not evil. Bad guys using them are.Guns are effective. In fact, firearm is the most effective tool for self-protection.Guns are fun. There are Chinese say:some citizens can use the gun in USA, but no gun in China,they still have many cases about gun.
Everything can happen,and what's happen for tomorrow, we can not guess it.
The different counties have different rules, the leaders are hard to make the rules.
I don't understand why the citizens can use gun in USA, we have the government. The plicemen can make a safty city for us.

Gun...The most terrible thing in the world. I don't know who made it and why we use it. I believe when the US government choose to let their citizens have the gun. They want their citizens to protect themselves and help other. No one want to shooting each other.

Asking ourselves a question before we use the gun:" Do I have to use the gun on this thing?" I always think a human should do the thing we want to do.

I have heard a lot about gun ownership that if you're 21 year old, you can keep gun and I think it's really dangerous.If someone angry, maybe he can shot anyone even she's not his target. Nowadays, there are a lot of violent video games as well as movies, if in your house have gun, it's going to be really dangerous because the children may be can use this to copy some action in the movie as well as video game. I'm still wondering why does US government let the people keep their gun in car, house or maybe with them.

At first, this law can suppression the crime rate. More and more people can live in the safe area.
At the second, it is much easier for the government to control the country.

In China we cant buy a own gun, that just the people are police or government. but some of us can,they use some special way to get their own gun. I have some friends and also my parents' friends they do have their own gun. but u need to be very careful to keep it.
