Journal Question #11 (2010-2011)
Thanksgiving is 10 days away - November 25th - and Americans everywhere will be sitting down to eat Turkey (which won't look like the bird pictured above any longer). Thanksgiving Day is the most traditional festival in U.S.
ReplyDeleteI really have no idea what I can do on Thanksgiving Day, but I'm really sure that the Hobson House will have fulled by that time. We invite Nick, Jack, Allen, David to celebrate the Thanksgiving Day with our family. We will be preparing the food together and playing together. By the way, I like roast leg of lamb more than the Turkey.
I will be saying thanks to my parents, my teachers, my dorm friends and my foreign friends by that day.
Thanksgiving is important for Americans, because it is a tradition to thanks Indians. But in my opinion, thanksgiving is a great time to thanks my parents, my friends and my teachers. Because at that time we can thanks for theirs work. So it is good for people.
ReplyDeleteAlso I don't like turkey (except turkey sandwich), because of school cafeteria serve bad turkey. But I like other stuff people are often eat at thanksgiving.
This thanksgiving I will spend the whole holiday with my father, we will travel to other place beside Maine, so I think this years thanksgiving will be a great thanksgiving.
OH My God ! Why don't you invite me to celebrate the Thanksgiving Day with your family? It's that a turkey？ I never see it before. I am looking forward to the Thanksgiving Day.'cause we will have one week break for the Thanksgiving. That sound's great, and the important thing to me is I think except eat turkey, nothing special in the Thanksgiving Day.

ReplyDeleteThe most important things is my homestay sis's birthday party will hold on Thanksgiving break. They set up a fantastic party plan. These days I am worried about what kind of gifts she will like. But I still have swimming practice and volunteer activities. I bet it will be a busy vacation.
When it comes to food, I am looking forward to enjoy the feast on that night.I love all kind of meat! I always love the food my homestay cook for me. They also try to cook something special and watch my reaction to these new food. I appreciate I have such a good family.
I can't wait!
My homestay mom told me that we will not have school since next Tuesday! That is great. It is the first reason for me to like Thanksgiving. What I am going to do in Thanksgiving is to visit my homestay family members. They do have a big family. Guy has 11 brothers and sisters while Shelley has 10. It is going to be so much fun! Pretty sure that we are going to have a big turkey for Thanksgiving supper. For me, turkey is not bad but chicken can be even better.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have some questions for Thanksgiving. You said we are going to have sweet potatoes in Thanksgiving. Does that taste good? By the way I saw some white turkeys on weekends. Do they taste as the same as regular turkeys?
Sweet potatoes taste great! I'm not sure what white turkeys taste like, but my guess is they are similar to other turkeys.

ReplyDeleteI do like American holidays, but I'm not really interested in thanksgiving holiday, because the most important part in thanksgiving is have a big dinner with FAMILY.But i don't have family in here. i only can go to my friend's house and eat with his family. Yea, the food gonna be great, i gonna eat turkey or sth like everybody else. but in fact i was just eat like everybody else..and that's it.

ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Thanksgiving. This is going to be the first time that I celebrate it. I like American holidays, because there always has different food for different holidays. I like food! I like eating! Also, I like to have dinner with a big family.
ReplyDeleteI think i will go with my homestay parents to their grandparents' house, and we will have a big dinner together on Thanksgiving. I believe that the food is going to be great.
I like squash, pies, and sweet potatoes. But I don not like the cranberry sauce, because it is so sweet. I am not really like sweet food. AND I do not want to eat turkey any more after I saw the picture, although I really really like turkey before. I suggest Mr.Griffin do not do anything like this next time. Haha.
I hope that everybody can enjoy their Thanksgiving, and have a good time during their five days vocation.
I like this holiday, because we can eat lots of foods in this holiday. and we have 5 days breaks. we dont need to go to school. i will stay in a host family's house, its fun because we can enjoy how the really american family spend their holiday. i think i will have a good vacation.
ReplyDeleteThe turkey looks not very good in the picture. But it tast not bad. Anyway i love Thanksgiving because we are going to have a vacation and we don't have to buy any presents for anyone. All we do in this vacation is eat as much as we can.
ReplyDeleteIn China we don't have Thanksgiving but i knew that in English class and i had learned the history about it too. It was very intersting.
Of course i'm looking forward to this vacation because i have already invited two friends to my house during the vacation. One is Jack and the other one is my classmate in my old school. I can't wait for the holiday and have a good time with my good friends.

They are not only to celebrate the vacation, but also hang out together. There are the tradition of the American to celebrate. This is my second year to celebrate thanksgiving. I plan to go to New York city and going to watch the parade. It will be fine.

I like Thanksgiving.I will go to NY this Thanksgiving.My homestay told me, every airports will be busy on those days,because almost all people will put work away, and go back to eat dinner with family.
I know why american has Thanksgiving.But I like Thanksgiving, because every people go home to eat dinner.
Maybe I am a international student,so I touched with that reason.
This is my first Thanksgiving in the US.I like the holiday ,I think it is very meaningful. The family is going to have dinner together. All the people send their thanks together for the good things that they have. We will get together and eat much good-tasting food,also 5 days off,it is great.

This is my first thanksgiving in America and it's also the first thanksgiving in my life. I think I will have a good time in a American family. My host family buy a really huge turkey which is 24 pounds! Because all of my "mom"'s relatives will come and we will have a big dinner together!
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving for today is a time to show the thankful to all the people around you. I have heard a motto is: there is always, always, always something to be thankful for. I totally agree. All the people around us bring us different events and feelings. They may be our family members, friends, teachers, or just normal people. This kind of people bring us wisdom and happiness so of course we should say thank you to these people. Others may did harm to us or remain you pain and sorrow. Please say thank you to these people too. Because they make us grow up.

ReplyDeleteI had Thanksgiving dinner with my friend's family on last Sunday. I ate so much Turkey and I love it.I will go to Chicago and stay with my cousin in his college for 5 days. It's going to be my great experience because I will stay in college campus. I'm so excited and I hope it will be fun.
Thanksgiving is a important day for the American. I like to stay with American family during the thanksgiving, because every American family have the different habits. Especially this year i stay with Teddy's home stay. This family is so nice to us. In the Thanksgiving dinner we have a wonderful time, and turkey is so good. For i don't like Turkey this kind of animals they are like dangerous. I always think they were come to hit me. So i don't it but sometimes something likes ugly but taste good. So i think i like to eat turkey but i don't like turkey this animal.

This year was my first Thanksgiving day and it was so fun, I really like this holiday.
Thanksgiving is a celebration that is really unique, it comes from the first English people who come to America from England. They didn’t know how to survive here. Which kind of vegetable they need to plant and they didn’t have animals to eat. So the Indian people decided to help them. They gave to the English people all the materials that they needed and they taught them.
ReplyDeleteIn thanksgiving I ate so much and I lot of things that I cannot remember; it was my first thanksgiving and maybe my last one. We don’t have that celebration in Spain. I ate all kind of food because they just told me that I had to try everything so I just did. It was awesome I really had a good time. It was one of the best experiences in my life.
I spent my thanksgiving with my homestay and her family. This was my first thanksgiving and i really had a wonderful day. we do have a huge turkey and a lot of delicious food. And after the dinner, I finally realize that why people just have turkey every year. we got a hugh turkey(14 pounds) and we even couldn't finish half of it though there were 12 people there.And after the eating the turkey, i cannot eat anything else.

I talked to my friend who is in Canada and knew that the Thanksgiving in Canada was in October. That's so interesting.
Mr Griffin i remember i did the journal but i cant fine it here. it s weird and thanksgiving is far away from now too. I have my thanksgiving holiday with my homestay. i dont really like the turkey i think it s to dry so i have steak for my thanksgiving. it s a pretty good holiday. we get to have a break and just eat all day and watch football game.
