A week from today, Americans all over the country will vote. These are called "midterm elections" because they come in the middle of the presidential term (in this case, the middle of Obama's first term as president). National and state representatives, governors, and other offices are at stake for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. In Maine, the biggest race is probably the one for governor, and there are three major candidates: Libby Mitchell (Democrat), a guy named LePage (Republican), and Eliot Cutler (Independent). You must have noticed all the signs, TV commercials, and other publicity surrounding the election. What's your impression of American elections? How are they similar or different from elections in your country?

hah,one more time,I'm the first one.
ReplyDeleteI think this journal def will get block in china. hah, any way, i think the American elections are very different from elections in China. Its hard to tell the difference, cause China and America had two totally different condition. Yea, Americans can vote people from different political party to be president. In china, that can't be happen. Because we have only one political party, and only one government. Cause we have different country condition, we can not change the government like every 4 years, cause china have so many people, and still have a lot of problems.change government may separate the china to different part. Like... you know what i mean.
I'm the second!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion American Electron is much better than electron in china. Because in the US 2 parties can charge of the whole country, so if someone disagree some thing, they can discuss in congress. Bus in china if the leader want do something, but you don't obey it, so you may be sent to jail by this leader. Also people can choose their governor by themselves, it is impossible in china. In china there is no electron, If the leader want someone to have his power, no one can't obey it. Congress in china is a tool for leaders, no one can vote the other person beside the person are leader recommended. So no Democratic in china. That's the reason Liu Xiaobo (刘晓波) can get Nobel peace Prize
ohhh, unbelievable, I'm the third one,ha ha.
ReplyDeleteI'm so surprise to see so many signs, TV commercials, and other publicity here. It seems that it is a big event for all the American.
In China, I have never seen the the publicity for the election. But can vote the one that i might like next year because i'm going to 18,ha ha.
I think they have a lot of difference between US and China's election. One of the differences is It just has one main party in China-- Communist Party, and the president must be the member of this party. But in America, everyone is equal, no matter your are belong to Democrats, Republicans, and Independents or you just a normal citizen belong to yourself, you can be the candidate if you want. That's a huge difference between them, i think
the government in china is totally different than the government in america. in china, nobody will vote on who the leader will be. the leader has all the power and nobody can not obey him. in American, the people can vote from different political parties who they want to be the leader. it's a democracy in american, but the people can't pick who they want to lead in china
ReplyDeleteI have seen many signs, TV commercials, and other publicity in here too. It looks like fair and a lot of things are dicided by people, which i think is good.
ReplyDeleteOf course there are a big different between China and America. As Ray siad that we have never seen the the publicity for the election in China. The government decided most things and the government is very powerful too. Because China is controled by one government and they can do many things just good for them.
But i don't mind that the government decided most things because the government has to do something good for the people.
I know that different place has different ways to make things done.
I never pay attention to this kind of news!so I don't know anything about that.ememem.........I know in China only deputies can vote, and ordinary citizens can not vote.I think that is different from the USA.
ReplyDeleteI never pay attention to this kind of news in China. On account of only one political party and government, we can't do anything to change it. Follow the orders by government is what I learn.
ReplyDeleteEven though we have right to vote, but who cares?
My family all love America and want to live at here maybe just because America has freedom and some real right to choose what kind of government we want.
But I still want to say, I love my county. I don't want anybody does something to harm and destroy my country.
I agree ZIMING.The American Electron is much better than electron in china.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry,I don't know many things about this, because I'm not intersting. But I still will care about this thing from news.
I just feel american government many decide from american, not only from goverment,Hmmm...It's good.
I like this point in american goverment.
I also think the American election is more fair than Chinese election.Because in the America, people can vote for the person, who they think should be the president .It just like the competition between two Parties .
ReplyDeleteIn China, things are different ,we only have one Party, and only one government, only the leader can chose the next leader to follow his step. Our family hates about that ,and my family likes this in America
In the American electoral system, people don't really vote for presidential candidates. Instead, voters cast their ballots for "electors" who support each candidate. I think the American election is more fair than Chinese election.
ReplyDeleteActually, I did not really notice that.I did not see any of those signs, TV commercials, and other publicity surrounding the election.I don't care a lot about politics. I don't pay attention to it. The only thing I hope is that the president likes peace, and is trying to make the world more peaceful.
ReplyDeletePretty sure that we vote in China too. Actually,we kind of vote a lot. But only for people above 18. People keep voting until they get some of the majors. And the majors will vote to have a president for China.
By the way,the things in China is quite different form here in the US. Because we only have one party that is the Communist Party of China.

ReplyDeletei think both are pretty good, In china, we just have one political party and only one government, people can vote until 18. In america, there are three candidates from three different major candidates. somebody think that more fair than china, but in my opinion, i think people believe the Communist Party, and they show us they can lead china to better and better, people all see that.
ReplyDeleteI have seen many signs near the road.
ReplyDeleteThere are many difference between American election and Chinese election. Everyone knows American election is more democracy and freedom. Every adult can vote for the party or president which you like. Also I thing the votes are real, people won't change it inside of the government. In China, we only have one party to control the whole country. Because of the huge population of China, everyone can't vote for the president. We have to vote a representative to represent out town, and then the representatives should vote a representative to represent out city. These guys should vote a guy to represent our province. These guys who represent our province will have a meeting in Bingjin, and vote for our president. That's the huge difference.
I think in America you can have more choice to choose the thing you want. here is the freedom country. However in China, all the thing is arrange by the party.
ReplyDeleteInteresting comments, everyone. One clarification - Johnny, it is true that electors in the "Electoral College" officially elect the President, but the votes in this "college" come directly from the popular vote of each state. In this election (not a presidential election), representatives are elected through direct vote (popular vote), not the electoral college.
ReplyDeleteI think the U.S. election test of the ability of voters more realistic. All Candidates need to face the voters, including supporters and opponents. Candidates need to have good resilience and leadership, but also with great determination. The scene of the election is very large, the atmosphere was very warm, wonderful speech of candidates, voters loud cheers. Election as a festival!
ReplyDeleteThere is no election in China. What a shame!
In my opining, they are totally different. Actually we don't have vote in China. The Communist Party have already selected the next president. So that mains we can't choose the president and maybe some of us don't have any idea about this president. If he is the person who is corruption, we also have no idea. By the way i wanna say something about American vote. The person what ever you choose the financial group which behind them always same. So they don't care who will be the present at all.
ReplyDeleteI think that the elections in America are so different and much better than they are in China.
ReplyDeleteAmerican elections are more real. For example, American presidents are voted by the citizens. But in China, the government decides that who will be the next president. So we have never selected a president. We never care who is going to be next president. Actually, I really don't like that.
The elections in America are more democracy and free. The elections in China need to be changed.
I think although both America and China have electron but they are different. America's presidents are voted by the citizens. Chinese policy is let people vote first then the government finally decided who will be the president. sometimes it's unfair but i think both of these way to vote a president have their advantages. American presidents shows the real hope of the people. In China there is a huge population so that some people don't know a lot about the situation of all the officers in government. Or sometimes someone wants to be a president so that they provide some information to people that is not true. So i think in this way we can choose a best president in China.
ReplyDeleteI am always interested in politics because in Spain politics is very important. Today we have a very bad president in Spain and it is important to understand the government and to vote.
ReplyDeleteNext year I will join a political group of students in Spain. I like to be a part of politics in my country.
In China we have VOTE. But not everyone can have a choice to vote, because in China we have 1.4billion people. So if everyone vote and statistics them together it's a really hard thing to do. So we have NPC. The NPC is same as congress. The representatives from every states they VOTE for us.
ReplyDeletePolitics does not interest me very much. I’m not an expert in this topic. But I know that it is something very important. It’s really important because it’s the power that controls us. That’s why we need to vote, because this is the way that we have to express our opinion. It’s the way that we get to choose who we want to control our country. Politics in US and Spain are exactly the same; it’s a democracy and everyone has the same rights.
