Journal Question #17

This painting of Edward Hopper's, called "Rooms by the Sea," makes me think of endings and beginnings.  The end of a school year is a good time to reflect on what has happened in your life since September, and what you think is ahead of you - either long-term or short.  What will you take from your year at TA?  What are looking forward to?

I learned a lot in TA's year. Not only academically, but also learned how to live correctly in the United States. After this year's experience, I think it will lay a solid foundation for my future career. For this reason, I am very grateful to TA for training me this year. I look forward to the TA spirit I learned in Ta one day in the future, which can help me overcome difficulties and finally achieve success.

  2. Since the first moment I put my foot in the United States I felt that everything was going to be different in many ways. I also felt something similar when I came to TA, but I didn’t know that a lot of things were going to change that much during the year. If I look in general at what I will take with me from all this year, it’ll be the experience and the better English that I got. Besides, I’ll also mention my friends in capital letters and a lot of more things that I learned this year such as mistakes, other ways to do something, etc. Definitely, I hope I’ll remember this year and continue improving my English.

  3. I learned a lot when I came to America. I was an athlete in Korea, but I came to America and started studying because it was very difficult to make money by exercising in Korea.
I can naturally communicate well with American. Compare with 3 years before, I improved a lot. I learned that life doesn't have to live in a hurry and that there's nothing wrong with living slowly

Everything that starts has to come to an end. I learned to think about what I need more and what would benefit me in the future after studying at Thornton Academy this year. I went from being a fairly naughty and immature boy to thinking about what I needed more and what will help me in the future. This place taught me a lot about culture, communication, and behavior, among other things. This place helps me grow every day by teaching me things that would come in handy. I still have two years left to study here, and I'm hoping to obtain more experience, as well as trade and learn a lot of essential information in order to prepare for university and the future.

Time flies so fast, I can’t imagine I have already been here for almost a year. I can still remember the first day of my school year. I was half an hour late because my school bus’ driver was kind of messed up. Throughout the whole year, I really enjoy the living and study style in the United States. I can put more time on my own interests like dancing. I don't have to face the pressure of academy performance. However, I know I have to do better than now so I’m not wasting my parents' money. In the coming months, I need to take the SAT and TOEFL. I also need to start applying for college, so there’s no extra time for me to play around like this year. Although it will be a tough year, I'm still looking forward to it. As I said, time flies so fast, I should be well prepared for the future, either for good or bad results.

As the school year at Thornton Academy ends, I have experienced this incredible year as something that I will never forget, with people who I’ll never forget. My life has changed a lot since September and I will return to México with a lot more knowledge. I will take from TA a lot of good memories from the year and real good friends, I am sad that not all of them live in my city.

I only spent 5 months and a half in TA until now but I think that I improved my English skill in a brief time. When I decided to study abroad in America, I was kind of anxious, on the other hand, I expected a lot. As many people know, all countries have all different educational systems. Compared to Korea’s education system, the majority of Korean students are almost required to go to the academy. So, the high school starts at 9:00a.m until 5:00p.m. Right after school ends, we usually go to various academies such as Math, Science, Art, English academy. (Most of the academies end at 10:00p.m.) But, in America, we don’t actually go to the academies and we can take our private time more. That’s the most advantageous thing about America's education system. I feel more free in America compared to Korea. I’m planning to come back next year and I really expect my future life, happening in TA. I hope I can improve my English skills in TA until I graduate.

I studied at TA for 1 and half years. During this time, I get a lot of experience in TA that is hard to get. It was my favorite time and the happiest time of my life. As I am studying in american style not korean style, I get much less stressed than when I studied in Korea. I will take more experiences and knowledges from my TA life.

time flies. It's a good time for TA. Next year I will be my junior year. I feel that I need to work harder in my junior year. I have completed my schedule. Only by working harder can I get better and better. This year I studied hard and made many friends. I've got my vacation plans planned, and I'm feeling busy this vacation.

I want to gain a lot of experience in TA. Those experiences will help me in the future. For example, many club activities, relationships with a lot of friends. I want to learn these things from TA. I look forward to my own growth and a lot of knowledge in TA. I have looked back on myself through my school life so far, and I want to develop myself more next year in many ways.

Now, It’s time to end this semester, I just feels good and fresh because I can rest and can go back to my country. But I also can feeling to reflect myself, I think I’m not a good student, I often forget to do my assignment and I have some not good grades too. But it is a good experience for me, After I can reflect oneself, I can think and promise I never late to do my homework, so I never disappoint and to regrettable to come TA. This time is the most expensive for me. I’m very happy to come here.

Since I came here, a lot of things have happened. It was the most important year to me because it was my first time being in the U.S. I had so many various experiences, I made new friends from different countries, and also, I met some teachers from the U.S. I traveled to Boston and Newyork with my new friends from T.A. It was really good to know each other and I'll keep in touch with my friends, even though they are all leaving. For next new year, I will study more, and I want to make new friends again. I hope next year is gonna be happier and funnier than this year.

6 months ago I came here, not knowing anyone, in a foreign country with a different language. If
someone would’ve told me that this would become my home, I guess I wouldn’t have believed it. In these 6 months I lived with unfamiliar people in a house, who became my second family. I made many new friends, who also became my family. These 6 months went so fast, I still can’t believe that it’s over in a bit. And knowing that in a bit I have to say goodbye to my whole second family is terrified. Of course I am looking forward to see my family and friends in
Germany again, but I wish I would have had more time here. I know it’s not a goodbye, it’s a see u later but it will never be the same again. I will never live with all my friends and family together in a foreign country which became our home. I will forever be grateful for what I experienced here and the memories here mean the world to me, I will never forget that. From my time here at TA I learned a lot, I got way more self confidence and I got to know so many different languages and cultures. Right now I am not looking forward to anything else than to see my family and friends again in Germany, I just want to stay here. Everything must come to an end, the drip finally stops. :)

  17. Time went really fast for me. One day I was in middle school and now I'll become a junior.
This year went especially fast, and I learned some great lessons at the very end of the year.
It was a rough time, but I believe these experiences will make me more mature.
Now I realized that I always want more than I can actually handle and all I wanted was meaningless. Looking back, I wasn’t really a good person. All I want to be now is a person who can enjoy with only what they have in their life with their kindness.

This year was a whole experience and I’ll always remember it as the best year of my life, including the best friends and relationships I’ve ever had and just in a year, this experience was unforgettable and I wish it could be longer. Saying goodbye to my friends has been the hardest and it will still be. Now I know that I have real relationships all around the world and I can count on them and they can count on me.
I wish I could stay in contact with all of them and still be friends in many years, and to meet again and come visit TA to remember the good times we have had.

I think I have gained a lot this year. For example, I have met many friends and made many great teachers. They have made me grow up a lot and taught me a lot of truth about life. They have led me to grow up and we have accomplished many incredible things together. For example, we represent China and spread Chinese culture at the International Fair. I think this is the most successful activity we have done. In the future, I also like to continue to grow up with these friends and continue to learn with these excellent teachers!

For me, going to TA was a life-changing experience; I met lots of new people, I experienced lots of new things and I also learned a lot in school. The beginning of the school year here in Thorton was a very pleasant experience; I was going to the beach with friends and just simply hanging out with others. Then as the time went by the school work started to get harder and harder ,but I was fine with it and I was able to turn all my homework in on time. Now as it is only one week left of school and being here it makes me really sad to say goodbye to all of those who made me happy this whole, entire year. I just hope to see some people again some day and talk about the past and pleasant TA memories.

My time at TA has been the definition of a roller coaster. I have had really high highs but also really low lows . I have grown as a person so much. I’m gonna miss my hallway so much I had the best of friends one door away and we were always there for one another. I’m looking forward to all the new memories that I’m gonna have in summer and the ones of my senior year

when I got to TA I thought it was going to be very boring the best thing I'm going to take away from this year of TA is that I learned English and that's going to help me throughout my life and all my friends and the experiences we live together and everything that will help me in my long term goals

I have made many friends and learned a lot. I learned a lot of different knowledge, which is different from that in China. I'm looking forward to learning the guitar but the new semester seems to be full of guitar lessons and I'm going to learn the piano but as long as it's music I like it. I also want to learn more about English.

I have gained a lot in TA this year, and I have met a lot of people, new teachers, and new friends. What impresses me most is that I participated in the school basketball team this year. I was very happy in the school team. I practiced with these like-minded friends every day. My skills are also rising rapidly. Thank them very much. , I am also very grateful to my coach. Sometimes I don’t understand many tactics, but everyone in the team will teach me humbly. There is also a good teacher like Mr. Griffin. We are all very reluctant to retire. After all, you have taught me English for three years. I hope you will be well in the future. Next year I plan to go to a good university and then I want to travel to Miami. Hope to meet a good English teacher like you next year!

It’s been a year since I came to TA and I learned a lot of things here. The biggest change is my speaking skill. At first, I was always nervous when I speak English because I think of lots of grammar corrections; however, I realize that it doesn't matter whether I say all grammar correctly or not. So I can speak without being nervous. Also, I meet lots of nice friends here. They help me to improve my English. Furthermore, I can learn some Spanish from my Mexican friends.

In the blink of an eye, this year has passed. When I first came to TA, I would mess up a lot of things but after this year, I slowly integrated into the American campus life, met a lot of friends from different countries, and my English skills are slowly improving, I think I will learn a lot in TA and meet more friends, and my English skills will also be greatly improved.

I'm in grade 9 right now and I still have three years left to finish high school. But in Spain it is different. In Spain I have 1 year left to finish ESO which is the Compulsory Secondary Education and then I will go to do baccalaureate which is 2 years that prepare you to take an exam for the universities. So my future what awaits me in the coming years is to study, and I look forward to finish these three years and start college!
