Journal question #7
The winter solstice comes on December 21st. It is the shortest day of the year - or the longest night if you look at it that way. After the 21st, each day in the northern hemisphere gets a little longer. Still, this is the darkest time of the year, and many people don't like the limited sunshine. How about you, are you bothered by the lack of light? Are you waiting impatiently for longer, sunnier days? How do you live with the darkness?

ReplyDeleteI like a lot the sun and having a bright day and when it comes the winter solstice there’s no sunlight that much time but not only that also here that it’s cold i don’t like having a day with almost nothing of light and be more cold because there’s no sunlight instead in my city it’s not as bad because it’s warm all year long and I prefer it to be a day without sunlight because it makes the temperature go down a bit.
Andrea:
ReplyDeleteI really like light because I feel more productive doing things before the light is out, because when the light is out I feel like it’s time to rest and chill with my friends. So that’s way I am waiting for sunnier days. I think I would live good with darkness but I have to get used to it.
Luciana:
ReplyDeleteI like to have many sun but I also like to be in my home cozy with no sun watching a movie. The true is that I enjoy a lot the sun, feeling like it’s morning, going for a walk in the afternoon with sun or going to the beach or sun outfits, but it doesn't bother me to not have many sun meanwhile it’s only a few months, with a little of sun you can be in your bed watching a movie, be cozy with a blanket and in the night sleep good with no sun. I like to have both where I live.
Mingyang:
ReplyDeleteWhen the lights are turned off and the curtains drawn, all that is left is darkness. I close my eyes and it's like I've fallen into a dark world, a world that's just me. Is so quiet but quiet to unbearable, fear welled up in my mind, instantly, let a person want to shout, hesitation, or even burst into tears. Outside the window, the rain was pouring down and I couldn't see anything. But then I thought of Helen Keller and she was a great writer and when she was 18 months old, she lost her sight, and suddenly she lost the sound of the world. But she was strong and unyielding, and became a famous blind writer. So, I pulled myself together. Overcome the darkness.
I will not deny that I love sunny days, but especially if they are in winter. You could say that the lack of light does not bother me almost, I love the night. I think a perfect combination for me would be a sunny winter day, and then start that long night that you take advantage of to watch movies with a blanket, popcorn, and some hot drink, although you can also take advantage of it to meet friends. In my case, I don't look forward to the long days of summer.
ReplyDeleteAnni:
ReplyDeleteI like dark days, for some reasons. Except for sunny days I would like to choose dark. Sometimes I don’t really like sunny days especially in summer. I don't like the sun because it 's too hot. For some people they will think dark feels bad or maybe feels lonely. To me I think it is quiet, feels good, it lets me get quiet down and relax. Sometimes I can focus on something,it's weird, but if it's a sunny day I get tired. I don't know why. I have enough time to sleep but I still feel tired, lazy. I would like to have a long night rather than daytime. Some people will like sunny, some people will like dark, and I like dark more than sunny. I like to have a dark room but not that dark. It still has some light on.
Damir:
ReplyDeletePersonally I don’t care about the weather or the day night things. But if I need to choose I would always choose daylight and sun over everything but sometimes I like a little bit of darkness, especially when I get in my feelings and when I’m with the special person, when I want to rest. And I think when it’s night time and when you’re with your friends it can be the funniest night or you can have deep talks about life and things around you but personally I like to have both, so that’s why I kinda like night time. But I can’t wait for the longer sunnier especially summer days.
Edward:
ReplyDeleteI'm a pretty outgoing person, I get bothered by the dark because I usually go outside and play basketball with my friends, but if it is too dark, my mind thinks differently. The only thing I will think about is sleeping. I am waiting for a sunnier day and good weather so I can, so I can go outside and hang with my friends. I think I would live good with darkness, but I have to get used to it
Philip:
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I enjoy the dark. Less sunshine changes nothing to me. We have the electric light, so I don’t need to worry about the light. Second of all, I think living with darkness is a good thing. Not everyone loves sunshine. I’m very busy during December and January, that means I have no time to care about the climate. Third, I’m the man who is more efficient at night. Sometimes I prefer to sleeping during the day.
Jimmy:
ReplyDeleteFor the sun, I prefer night. When night falls, I can stay away from the hustle and bustle of the day. I don't feel uneasy. Instead, I can do something more focused. It also relaxes me. At night, turning off the lights, opening a bag of popcorn, watching an interesting movie with friends, or watching a thrilling game is a great thing. Summer night is so beautiful. Everything on the earth was shrouded in the desolate moonlight, as silent as time jams, but occasionally there was a faint sound of leaves rubbing. Time seems to have never been this quiet, or maybe it should have been this quiet
We are living on an earth that has both light and dark. Most of the planet doesn't have both.
ReplyDeleteSo we should be definitely thankful for that.
I would say daytime and night have the same amount of importance. I do not prefer only darkness or sunlight. But there's a certain time that one is better than another for the situation.
I guess if it's just one day I think it's good to have a longer night.
I pursue the presence of sunlight. Because the night has a scary and gloomy feeling, so I hate it, and even if I felt good, there are times when I feel bad because it's dark. If it's dark, it's hard to see the other person's face, and even if I talk about something, it feels like I'm talking while looking at the wall, so I pursue a long season when the sunlight is bright or during the day. That's why I like spring and summer the most.
ReplyDeleteMiguel:
ReplyDeleteIf I am bothered by the lack of light because I like the day better I can go out more and do more things if I'm waiting for the sunniest days because I take advantage of the dark more because I like it because I can go out to a dinner go out with a friend watch movies and relax but I like the light better
Terry:
ReplyDeleteAs the winter comes, the sunshine always appears at 4 or 5 o’clock. And then it will be very dark. I really don’t like it because I can see nothing at dinner or even afternoon time. I feel so negative and dark. I am waiting for the longer, sunnier days. That can put me in a good mood and enjoy the sunshine. And also the longer day can decrease the traffic accident because it’s brighter.
Enrique:
ReplyDeleteI have always lived in a city that is always sunny and there are times when it gets dark at 8 o'clock so I am used to the sun but coming to Maine at this time of year there is more night than sun so I like it and I am getting used to it because I like the night more so I enjoy it more because the night makes things special and more unique and I enjoy them but sometimes I wish there was more sun but by far I prefer the night always.
Alvaro:
ReplyDeleteI like the way the weather is right now because it is cold and the sun makes the days bright soI like the sun, but I don’t like it when it’s really hot, like in summer, because if the sun is really hot I start sweating, so then I feel uncomfortable and makes me hate the really hot sun more.
Nick:
ReplyDeleteLast time when days started to get shorter and shorter, I started to get more sad and depressed. I
really hope that soon it will get way more sunny and I will finally wake up seeing a lot of sunshine
again. Every year when it gets darker I am having way more problems with my emotions ,this really
affects me personally and my schoolwork ,because I don’t concentrate as well as I would during
nice sunny weather. I just can’t wait to go out the house ,happily enjoying the weather ,because now
I honestly have to force myself to go out anywhere.
Javier:
ReplyDeleteI personally don’t really like the short and cold days because it makes me stay longer inside my house or wherever I am and I prefer to be outside having a good time. In hot days I can just be with a t-shirt and shorts but when it’s very cold I have to start wearing lots of clothes on me and that makes me feeling more hot but it also make me uncomfortable.
Ina:
ReplyDeleteIn my personal opinion I enjoy better being at the sun it makes me feel more productive and happy, I’m not bother by the lack of light I also enjoy the darkness but as I mentioned before I prefer the light ! By the end of the day I do wait impatiently for the light and sun of the next day, the darkness it doesn’t bother me at all I also enjoyed going to places at night therefore It doesn’t bother me but to conclude I do like more the light and brightness!
Matias:
ReplyDeletePersonally I don’t care if it’s dark or bright outside, but I think that walking outside when it’s dark it’s dangerous so it’s better to walk outside when it’s bright, when we have longer nights I get to sleep more so I also like when it’s dark,I don’t care if it’s dark or bright outside because i like some things of both but I know that some people care
Vittorio:
ReplyDeletehave always loved good weather, when the sun is out I am happy. I am one of those people whose mood is affected by the weather outside, for example when it is dark outside I used to be more tired and not productive. I love summer and long days and can't stand it when it's light out at 4pm.
