Journal Question #14

In the last two weeks, there have been two mass shootings in the United States, in Atlanta, Georgia and Boulder, Colorado.  Unfortunately, this is not a rare event in this country.  Guns are available to pretty much anybody who has the money to buy one.  What do you think of guns?  Should they be easy to get?  Can you buy a gun in your country?  How can America reduce gun violence?

  1. I think the gun is just an object, people should not blame it, but people who use it to break the law. As I said, it should be easy to get. For example, I like guns very much (I like almost any kind of weapons except axes). My country doesn't allow the sale of guns, but I bought a few simulation toys (no lethal, loaded with soft bullets, similar in structure to real guns, similar in texture to jelly, muzzle speed has also been reduced, by the way, I have an m1911a1 and Glock 17). There should be restrictions on the purchase of individual guns, or higher prices for civilian guns, and more patrols.

  2. I think that is about the people. Who were they raised, their friends and the violence in their homes, in some places a gun is esencial to have at home. I’m not really interested in guns but I think that in Mexico you can. There should be a contract about why are you going to use it for and stuff like that.

  3. I definitely think that in the United States it is very lacking to get any type of weapon, for example in Spain you cannot get a gun if you are not of legal age and you have to have a permit. I think it shouldn't be that easy since it causes a lot of violence, and it bothers me that they see all this and do nothing to change it.

  4. I really think guns shouldn’t be easy to get because that is when a lot of crimes happen and more from young adults. In Spain they must have a bunch of permits to be able to have and use one. I think it should be more restricted and monitored so many of those crimes wouldn’t happen. Also if an adult has an arm they should hide it, keep it to themselves and use it in real emergencies.

  5. First of all, in our country it is illegal to posses with their own gun. Also I think is is good not to have guns-individually. Because it causes only many bad news, I never heard good news about the guns. It is dealing with a person’s life easily. In my opinion having a gun should be illegal in US as well.

  6. I think guns shouldn’t be easy to get because I’m sure a lot of people that using them are not trained to use them and that can cause real damage to someone or something. I think that will also reduce incidents that happening everyday on the streets of the US.

  7. It is illegal to own a gun in South Korea. Some say that guns are also a way to protect themselves. However, while guns are a means of protecting yourself, they are one of the dangerous items that can endanger others. That is why South Korea doesn't let people have their own guns and I don't prefer let people having guns.

  8. In my opinion, the best way to reduce gun violence is not to allow people to buy guns except police officers. If people don’t get guns, the gun violence will definitely decrease. In Japan, people are not allowed to buy guns or have it. I haven’t seen guns yet. But people get it somehow. I think that’s the biggest problem. The government can’t keep an eye on the back trades even police. I think to reduce violence police should catch people who trade guns if they see that scene.

  9. I think the best way is education, even in school for small kids. People need to learn what to and not to do with the guns. They need to pass some kind of gun training class to get a license and only use for self defense. However, I don’t want to ban the guns. It won’t works much because the murderers, criminals will find all ways to get their purpose. Also the criminals or gangsters almost never buy guns legally, because they’ll get detected easily, so banning doesn’t work. Most people buy guns legally never do such those things and only use for self defense. Of course, there’re still some exceptions. However, like what I said before, education is still the best way.

  10. The main purpose of guns are use for hunting animals,self-defense,protection of property. It can be very dangerous depends on how you utilize it. Personally, guns weren’t mean for killing or injuring people. But the ways people using it recklessly making the gun the kind of reputation we known today. Guns ownership should be more strictly considered. In my country only Thai citizens are allowed to own guns. Other than that is considered illegal. Basically make guns ownership more unreachable. Or any type of laws which can decrease the guns ownership.

  11. I think guns are dangerous. I like guns very much but I don’t think guns can be obtained casually. Guns are not sold in my country, which makes my country very safe. The United States can try to reduce the number of gun killings by selling only bullets for practice

I think guns are very dangerous. It can result a very serious damages or death to other people. In Vietnam, guns are prohibited which is very safe. United States can limit gun for people who have risk of harm other peoples.

  13. It's really dangerous to have a gun. Soldiers can carry it, however, strange people really shouldn't have it. They could threaten people with guns, or they could break into shops, banks, and threaten people. Ownership of gun is not possible in South Korea. I hope that the possession of gun will be illegal as soon as possible in the U.S. Gun has too many risk that harm people.

  14. In Korea, it is illegal to have guns, however, the U.S. should also make it illegal to have guns. A gun can kill a person, or a gun can hurt or harm a person. In the United States, there are lots of shooting criminal. Felon always kill police officers or people. After seeing this, I think the U.S. government should change the law. Even if you can own it by protecting yourself, criminal always use it when you threaten someone or kill someone. I think guns are really scary stuff. They should change the law that criminal cannot buy gun easily.

  16. Guns shouldn’t be easy to get but in use it’s not that hard to get one, and in China where I used to live, we don’t even see guns in most of the places we go and it is almost impossible to get one. I believe the way to solve gun violence it to stop selling guns

  17. In Korea, buying gun and using gun is illegal. Because guns can cause several problems and we don't have to use the guns. But in USA, people use guns to protect themselves or to arrest crimes. However, as anyone can use the gun some bad accidents caused. So, to allow using the guns government have to make strict rules for many people.

Nowadays, people with guns may not be able to fight against the state apparatus. If the problem of gun control is simply attributed to democracy and interests, it is difficult to explain the strict control of guns in many democratic countries in Europe. The current status quo is that the forces opposed to gun control have always had the upper hand. The American Rifle Association is a very powerful out-of-hospital group. The Republican Party has always been opposed to control with a clear-cut stand. Moreover, it is almost impossible to amend the constitution in the United States. The forefathers of American politics highly respected the sovereignty of the people and held a high degree of vigilance against government power. They avoided tyranny by restricting government power. To put it bluntly, many Americans with a strong bill of rights believed that possession of guns was accompanied by a kind of Tools, rather than a natural right. Guns are not allowed in our country, and those who carry guns will violate the law. The United States should take certain measures. Firearms can only be used in places or people with high literacy can buy them.

  19. In my opinion, it depends on the country. Some countries have really weak security service. In that country, people should get a right to get a gun because without any weapon, they can't protect themselves. However, In the countries which have a great security service, people shouldn't get a right to own a gun. For the reason, they already got a good police system. Therefore, they don't have to protect themselves by shooting a gun. -cha-

I think a gun is an easy thing to get. It is an item, just like some people like cars, some people like watches, some people like clothes, and some people like to collect guns. I think that in addition to having a gun license, they must also be legally restrained and not allowed to do something illegal. My country cannot buy guns, only police or soldiers can have guns.
