Journal Question #9

End of Semester Question:  How has the first semester gone for you?  Write about your classes, dorm life, social life, sports, food, weather, activities - whatever comes to mind.  Has the first semester at TA been what you expected, or very different from what you thought when you first arrived?  How have you changed?  Do you think your English has improved?  Has your knowledge of the USA improved?  How about your self-knowledge?

  1. I spent my first semester in Yuancheng reticulated shell, which is different from what I thought at the beginning. I thought it would be OK to have classes upside down day and night, but now I think jet lag is still a huge problem. My English has improved, and I know more about America through some courses. Mr. Bruce Lee said that all knowledge ultimately means knowing yourself. I learned a lot this semester, so I think I know myself better.

  3. My dormitory life is beautiful every day and do homework with friends to play games and playing basketball, my social life is happy when I come back to China my friends will go with me to travel to take the risk, the first semester is a very special challenge for me, because all assignments and course is done on the network, but I think offline course better. Through these years of study abroad, I have a better understanding of the United States and know what I should do.

  4. This experience is pretty much what I expected. I am having so much fun in the dorms and we are doing plenty of activities. I think my English has improved and will. I learned a lot about the USA especially as we lived through the election and other important events. I really don’t know if I change but I feel I am more independent and learning from other girls from other countries for sure helped me personally. I enjoyed a lot this semester and I think the second semester is also going to be very interesting and fun.

  5. My first semester life was kind of improvement period for me. Because there were a lot of things that happened to me and those made me to realized to do my things which are like very important. For example, like my college major which is in rush to find for me but I didn't even think about it, then during first semester I started to find it for my life. Also as living I am falling love to have experience which make me strong and give me the way for my future.

  6. My first semester was pretty good, but sometimes bad. I made lots of friends and learn new things. For example, I learn English, new sports, and how to make good relationship with my friends. However I had bad side too. My grade is really bad. That is only one that I thought bad thing on first semester.

  7. The first months of the semester the truth is that I focused more on making friends than in school, then when I made my group and met people everything started to be more fun, in TA when I get up on Monday I am not so lazy to go to school, and in Spain yes, what I mean is that here I don't find it boring at all, and I like it, I mean the first semester has been great

  9. I was worried about everything at first because this year is my first year. There are a lot of new things for me. But as time passes, I’m getting used to spending school life. Now, my life is so good. However the one thing is not good. That is I couldn’t to study English enough because I couldn’t make time. So, next semester, I’m going to study English more than now. My grades in first semester are good. I want to keep it. About food, I want Japanese food because dorm meal is similar taste all the time. So I’m kind of sick of it. But I’m satisfied with other things. I’ll do my best to make second semester to be more better.

I was so excited and think about how I will study at school and most of them different from I expected. This was the first time I live at dorm and It wasn’t hard as I expected I have a friendly roommate. The first month study here, I was a little struggling in doing homework and classwork but after few weeks I caught up the study program. After I caught up, study here a lot more easier than in Vietnam I don’t have to rush for grade to have higher average scores, at US I only study 4 favorite subjects not study 9 different subjects like in Vietnam. My english has improved a bit. I’m satisfied how the, first semester go and I will improve more.

  11. At first, I worried a lot how things would go for me. But everything is fine now. Living in the dorm is not as hard as I though it would. The food was normal, not too bad, but not delicious for me. Studying was the thing that I most worried, but it seems good so far. If nothing bad happens at this last day, I will have a very good grade. The only thing I’m not satisfied is I didn’t have more subjects, I have two study halls and I think that wastes my time, but I asked for two half-credit classes for next semester. Overall, I feel good about almost everything. I hope the next semester will be going as well as this semester.

  12. My first semester was pretty awful. Because I didn't get a grade what I wanted, and I had some troubles with my friends. Moreover, I hate living in the dorm, I have many constraints, for example, I couldn't get out the dorm after 7:30, and whenever I want to out the school before 7:30, I have to get a permission from teachers. I hate it so much. However, I think my english skill has improved.

  13. I enjoyed the first semester in TA despite the pandemic. The dorm life, social life, etc are pretty peaceful. I wasn’t expecting what TA life is but I like it overall. I’m happy with my first semester. I got to meet some friends and make some fun memories. I think my english skills are slowly ascending.Maybe because I enjoy it. I hope it doesn’t lose its magic anytime soon. During the course of time, I acknowledge myself more and more. It helps me understand the value of language.

  15. For some reasons, I was unable to return to school, which made me continue to take online courses at home. I was unable to communicate and study with other students and I think this is a great loss.
