Welcome to TA! Here's a picture of me (your teacher), taken last spring. Luckily, we are no longer meeting just remotely (though some of you still are). But we still need to wear masks, socially distance, wash hands, and observe other "rules" of the pandemic. For this first journal, let me know how you feel about school opening this way. Are you happy with the hybrid schedule? Would you prefer to learn remotely? Are you okay wearing a mask?

- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
Mr. Griffin, the effect of distance learning may not be better than the effect of class, but learning will not stop. Now this situation is also a last resort, we must seize every opportunity to learn. Compared with before, most parts of China can now get rid of masks. We all hope that the epidemic in the United States will pass faster. This is our sincere hope.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I want to say that for students, the start of school is certainly a good thing. I think every student should look forward to the beginning of school, after all, staying at home for a long time is very boring. I am also very satisfied with the curriculum schedule, which allows me to learn more. For me, I don’t like remote courses, because there will be a lot of things I can’t learn, but because of travel restrictions, I can’t come to school to learn, so I will use remote courses for the time being. I will try my best. Learn during this time. Obviously wearing a mask is very important, it can prevent bacteria from harming you and also prevent the spread of the epidemic.

ReplyDeleteI think it's great to have in person-classes although we still have to study remotely for a half. But it's still much better than full remote. About wearing a mask, I think it's uncomfortable but we need to accept it to keep safe for everyone.

ReplyDeleteIt is great that we can go to school. Because you concentrate more and you don’t get lost in the class, also it is better being in school than in your home doing zoom meetings. Wearing mask is very important although it is uncomfortable. But as we all want to get to normality we have to wear it.
Wearing a mask is necessary, so is distance learning. I prefer face-to-face classes.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I prefer distance learning as it is easier and safer to work from home.
I know that wearing a mask is necessary, but it's hard to breathe in them, especially when you have 4 hours
Oh I prefer to return the face to face clause which is traditional class but for safety we need to do online learning son already have the split of two so I’m pretty happy about that and sometimes worry a mask is uncomfortable But It could prevent us from putting ourselves and others in danger
ReplyDeleteI am very glad to have such a schedule this year, but I do not like distance learning very much, because distance learning makes me unable to open many homework and videos in China, which greatly affects my GPA. I do not like wearing a mask because it is boring!
ReplyDeleteI think to do class in remote is not so good because I am not good at English. So I think it’s important to talk directly. But except it, other things are good idea. If we get coronavirus, we can’t go out from my room. So we have to be safe. About wearing a mask, it’s not good for me because I always understand what you say by using ears and watching moving of mouth. If teachers wear masks, I can’t watch moving. But I’ll do my best.

I think taking class in remote is not a good since students who are not good at English cannot ask all questions. But I'm glad I go to school at least twice a week. I prefer the remote class, because I don't even know who got the corona virus and I also can get it. I don't care to wear a mask.

ReplyDeleteI think this schedule where we attend classes two days in person and two days remote aren’t good for all students.This is my first year in TA and at first I was a little confused about classes.I’m still not perfect at English and It’s is easier for me to attend classes in person.Also,like many others,I hate wearing a masks because they make me nervous.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, attend class at school is better than remote class. The reason is at face-to-face class teacher can control student easier than online class. However, in remote class teacher cannot know that students are watching youtube or playing game.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to have a remote class online. First, remote class is much easier to get a high grade. Second, I don't have to wake up early to ready for school. Third, if we have remote class, we don't have take a mask on. But there r some bad point of remote class. If we take a remote class, we don't have enough chance to make a new friends. Btw, I want to take all my classes by remote

DeleteFirst of all I feel lucky to be here in this school. Because lots of boarding students who could not come to their school then the classes would only be remotely. That case in my opinion is just wasting money. Although I'm doing hybrid schedule, I'm actually here in America which I got more opportunity to get experiences. Also I prefer with hybrid schedule since I can have classes remotely for 3 days a week then I don't have to wake early and take a shower. -David Jung-
ReplyDeleteI’m fine with both online and in person class. It both has positive and negative subjects. In the comments, some student is satisfied with online class because it much more comfortable. But some prefer in person class, dues to the boringness and unable to communicate much. I’m somewhat fine with the hybrid schedule. Me myself don’t like wearing mask at all. It make your face very oily and hot. It’s just unpleasant. But dues to the pandemic, we must protect ourself and others by wearing it.
ReplyDeleteI think remote classes are safer, but the efficiency is definitely better in the classroom. Classes in the dormitory always make me feel lazy. Wearing a mask in the classroom is a must. Although speaking will be troublesome and breathing will become difficult, but Safety is more important

ReplyDeleteI think is much better doing clases in person because if you are on line in your dorm, in your room, it makes you feel that you are not completely awake and that’s one of the reasons why in online classes some of them don’t pay 100% attention. But in person is much easer to understand what they saying.

And we all have to wear mask because our health but I’m not get in use to it, I get stressed a lot and it’s good to have remote classes to, my opinion is that TA did a amazing method too keep everyone save.
