Is it important to have a girlfriend/boyfriend? Think of your situation
now, as a teenager, in high school, working on learning English as well
as learning other subjects. Where does having a personal relationship
with someone - someone more than a "friend" - fit into your life? What
do your parents think? (Does that matter?)

- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
In my opinion, as a teenager, it is important for us to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. First of all, having a boyfriend or girlfriend can improve our Emotional Quotient. When you have a boyfriend or girlfriend you need to know how can we maintain this relationship. These thing maybe can become to you experience to help you in the future. You won’t don’t know deal with opposite sex. Second having a boyfriend or girlfriend can improve you grade. If your boyfriend or girlfriend is a good person. You and he or she can study together and You will like to learn in an instant. Doing something with you lover you will always feel enjoy. At least if you and you lover can have improvement. You parent won’t say no.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think have a boyfriend or girlfriend is important, it is kind of life experience. Maybe even you never can’t forget your first love. But either way, at high school, at the student, the academic is also important, but if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, that is kind of beautiful things.

I think have a girlfriend or boyfriend is very important for your mood, it’s kind of life experience, sometimes when you have a girlfriend or boyfriend you can feel with new emotions and you can have new experiences with she o he. Doing something with you lover you will always feel enjoy, sometimes you can feel bad because maybe you fight with your lover and that happen, about my parents. I think It is very important that they accept my girlfriend because they are the most important people and they will always try to help you in your life and give you the best.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion，I think it is unimportant to have a girlfriend or boyfriend. As a teenager，goal is study hard.Maybe have some person want to looking for a girlfriend or boyfriend.I think we should learn at this age.It’s no problem to be a regular friend with girls at this age.My parent think as a student，the student should study hard.I think looking for a girlfriend or boy friend can influence study.In my summary，this is my point of view.
In my mind, the most important with teenagers is education. It will helpful than love, but it okay get love if you know which is important. I saw a lot of teenagers just care about their love and they don’t focus in education. If you knew education is necessary, so you can take more experience about love because love is a part of life.
ReplyDeleteI think this is important and not important. Everyone is different. I think there can be a girlfriend in high school. This will help to learn English. There are more conversations with your girlfriend. Many families in China do not support children to fall in love. They think learning is more important and should only be studied, but in this young age, young people should have their own ideas.

ReplyDeleteIt is important to have a girlfriend/boyfriend because there will be more people around you who can rely on you to experience the joy of being with others. It doesn't matter that you don't have to have a boyfriend/girlfriend. As a teenager, in high school, learn English and study other subjects. A place to establish personal relationships with someone - someone is more than just a "friend" - I don't think this is a good thing, but it can happen. My parents don't want me to have a boyfriend too early, but it doesn't matter because life is their own, having a boyfriend/girlfriend is not necessarily a bad thing for us now.
ReplyDeleteI think that is important to have girlfriend/boyfriend because some people when they are sad or feel bad for something the partner can help you but at the same time have girlfriend/boyfriend can be a distraction in your life and in school.my parents doesn’t care if I have girlfriend.

DeleteThanks for your comments, everyone. About half of you say having a girlfriend or boyfriend in high school is not important. Some say a romantic relationship would get in the way of studying, and a few of you mention that your parents don't want you going out in high school.
ReplyDeleteI think it is normal for a teenager to have a girlfriend in the process of growing up. And I think that teenagers have a girlfriend is a very good thing. She can urge you to study and stay with you when you have trouble. Many foreign students are abroad, and their parents are not around. They will feel that they lack a lot of love, but you have a girlfriend or boyfriend who can give you a lot of warmth and love. Let you be less lonely and helpless.
