Sunday is Mother's Day (May 13). Also, we have been reading stories
about family relationships in ELL III. So, think about families.
First, what is a family? Must it have two parents? Children? A
mother? Next, why are families important, both to individuals and to
society? How do they stay the same over time and how do they change?
Can you imagine life without your family? You can write about your own
family, if you wish, or families in general.

- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
I think families need to have older people and children. Not every family needs parents. It seems to me that if a child has a family, it is a family. The family is the place where the children are given the first lesson and each child spends most of the time with his family so the family is important for a person because the family taught him a lot. Families will always exist. When they are young, parents grow up and become parents. However, the family members who have been around may be able to die because of the elderly. If I don't have a family, I can't go to school in the United States and I can't have a good life now.
ReplyDeleteA family composed of mothers, fathers and children is the most complete family. Many families have 4-6 members. If a family wants to be complete, it must have two parents. Parents have a great influence on the whole family. Parents must do their utmost to make this family complete. If a family has no children, only one man and one woman, this is not a family at all. The family needs parents and children. Without children, it is not a perfect and happy family. Every family needs at least one child and two loving parents. The family is important for individuals because family members will embrace you. No matter what you do wrong, the family is the strongest backing in the world. It is also important for every family in the society so that the whole society can become more loving. My family and most families remain unchanged. No matter what setbacks parents face, they will love you and protect you unconditionally. The place where families change is that parents will grow old with time, and they will grow older. If they are even more terrible, parents will leave you and leave the world. I don't need to imagine that I can't leave my family and live my life. I don't need them to do anything for me. Some things need my parents to guide me, but I can do my best not to give them trouble. But if there are no family members, no one who can understand me, and no one else, I can go find him complaining. The family is inseparable. Anyway, you left your family. You lost your loved ones. You are like losing the world. You are less protective of you and the one who loves you.
ReplyDeleteMy family is of 6, my parents are divorced but I go every weekend with my dad. My family it’s reaally close and we have a good relationship. I have two brothers and a sister.

In my opinion, family is a group people whose have sibship, and also they’re loving each other. A family do not must have both parents or a child, The only thing is they are loving each other. Family is a place to tell all things that annoyed you and also is a place to share the happiness, family members are the nearest people whose care about you and love you. They always put their family members on first place.
ReplyDeleteFamily is one of the most important parts of my life. And family really means a lot for me. These is a saying: where is families is home. And in my home, I have my dad, my mom, and an older brother. All of them are important for me, they give me a lot since I was born. Sometimes I am so glad to that I have a happy family, that we are really love each other. And always support each other whenever what you age, wherever you are. I can’t even imagine that if I don’t have my family, may be my life will totally different with now.
ReplyDeleteAll in all, family is word almost the everything in my life, it is no matter how old I’m I or where I am. But I now there will always have someone stand behind me, and they are my family.
Family is one of the most important things in my life. There is a famous saying that where families are can be one's home. In everyone's life, family plays the row of listeners, which doesn't require numbers of people in a family. They can help you with everything they can do, so you can always share everything which is stressing you out with your family. They won't complain about anything when they are listening to you. This could really help a lot when you're in trouble.

Family is the place a member has deepest relationship to other member for most of us, it’s the place love germinates and grows.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, a family doesn’t has to have parents or children. It even doesn’t have to have a blood relation between parents and children. What connects people together should not only be the blood relation but also the love between them.
There is no doubt that family are very important to everyone. Family is the strongest shield, protecting you from bad things that may hurt you.
It’s hard for many people to accept a family member with no blood relation with them before. I am really glad that more and more people can treat their adopted children as their real family.
Life without family would be so terrible for me that I can’t imagine. Although I argue with my parents, think they are annoying when I was angry, I know that even we argue a lot, we will support any family member without condition.
A family, for me, should be form by two people who think they are living each other, probably they are parents and son or daughter, brothers or sisters, lovers, even friends.so it’s not necessary to have parents and children in a family. Actually it is more basic on if they think they are a family, instead a judgement from others.
ReplyDeleteFamily isn’t quite different from individuals, we can share our sadness and happiness to common friends, they can help you to solve problems you meet in daily life, I don’t think a family can give me any more different.
I think family must be have warm and love. If a family alway bring pain for me, that will not my family. I don’t think only has one mom or dad will not be formed a family. Some couples chose don’t need children , but they also live happily. That a warm family. My parents have divorced when I five years old, but my mom and dad both love me ,not change. So I have two family now. That isn’t a bad thing, i think I just also very lucky.

Since you were a child your parents told you what you have to do or not, and you start your personal growth thinking as your parents do.
Family must to be composed by a mum and a dad because in my opinion your felling are influenced by your parents.
Life without a family would be impossible because you couldn’t have the main reference points that every child should have and you could waste
your life maybe becoming a criminal.
For Teenagers is very tough talk with their families but they should do that.
When I have a situation, I usually have conversations with my dad and he always helps me to choose the right thing to do.
So I want to advice all people to talk with their parents because you can share experiences and feelings with them that could help you in the future.

ReplyDeleteWhat’s a family? The family are the persons that supports you no matter what and tell you when you are wrong and they love you, they try to take care of you in the best way possible. The family don’t need to have the both parents, for example the mother can take care of the children and support it without the father or viceversa, the family is the people that helps you it doesn’t ,alter if is you grandmother or your uncle, they are your family and they want the best for you. I can’t imagine a life without my family I don’t know what I could do without them, they are my support of everyday and I need to talk with them about my problem, I have a very good relationship with them, I love my family! The families can change with the time, the parents can divorce so for example that’s a big change or one of the children can die, but no matter what the family stays strong supporting each other.
I think the family is a warm place that can give you no place or group. The family will welcome you back to its place anyway. It is your warmest harbor. It does not necessarily have to have two parents, children. Because the family is a place where you enjoy happiness and love is part of your life, and society is full of love because of having a family. I think that without my family, my life must be gloomy because it lacks that particular color, and when I lose it, I can't find a safe haven.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, a family should have parents and children. But it's no matter how many parents in this family and what gender they are. Families are important to individuals because when we are disappointed families can give us the power to face the difficulties and when we are delight we can share our happiness with our families. Families are also important to society because families can make society more restful and progressive. Many families stay the same over time because of love and understanding, there are also many families change. If I live without my family, I think I will be another person because my character and my thought will totally different without the influence from them.
ReplyDeleteI think the family should have parents, children and older people, because that is a complete family. The family is important to everyone. No matter how rich you are, how high your social status you are, if you do not have a complete family, you will regret it. I can't imagine what my life would be like without a family. As the saying goes: The home is a sheltered bay. No matter how tired we are outside, once we come back home, we will feel very warm.I think family education is very important. Different family atmospheres can educate children with different personalities. Children born out of healthy family environment education will be more helpful to society.
ReplyDeleteFamily is a fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children. It does not have to two parents and children. But it needs to have youngs and elders. Family counts a great deal to both individuals and to the society. Family is the smallest basic unit of society. With millions of families, the society can operating and working fluently. Also in a family. All the family members are count as a strong group. People care and encourage about each other. Kids learn knowledge and life experience from their elders. Parents take good care of their kids. No matter how the times change. Family always exist. Because it is a circle which kids be raise up to adults and become parents too. I can imagine the life without a family. It is an incomplete life.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, i think the family is very important. And i think the family need dad and mom, but not mean everyone think like that. I can’t imagine if i don’t have the family. Because i think everyone need a family. Family, friends and lover are can’t be lost anyone. And i think when we grow up in a very nice family, this person are very nice. I think the family is very important for a person’s life.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the family is the most important for me. I think the family is not only a place to take a rest, but also is a place support each other, and listen each other’s inner voice. The country is our biggest family, but it made of lots of small family like I am. I can’t image that I don’t have a family, I will feel lonely and I will not have confidence to face to the common society. The family will change a lot, but the warm will never change.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the family is mother father and me. In my own family their grandparents and my parents we build a family. I think the family is really magically, the family can give you lots of confidence and suggestions on you. And also they can tolerate mistake and help you to fix it. I can’t image I grow up without family that will let me can not trust anyone in the society, but I think I will be more independent and brave.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the meaning of a family is definitely not just a place where we can sleep and eat. My mom told me that the place where filled love is called family. Family not necessary have a baby, or mom. But the family members must love their each other. For our teenagers, family is a only one place that everyone loves you forever, they will not hurt you. However you do they will always help you, and support you. Family is very important because you can get power and love from there when you run into a stone wall.

A family could be two parents or single mom or dad, even grandparent(s). The family is the family because it is important to us. Families support our individuals and build up relationships with other families or society. It is not hard to imagine the life without family. The life will be hard for most of them.

I cannot imagine me without my parents, because first without my parents I cannot come to throntonacademy for study. Second without our parents no one is strong enough to support me as a child. In my life, I think I have a very good family because my parents understand and love me and my old sister. In my opinion, the family in my wish is we need love in a family, we can have a quarrel but we need to make our hearts together and love each other. I don't care about the family members but I think a perfect family need father and mother together because that makes children keep on staying warm and love feelings.

The home must have two or more members. The home is a burden, the home is a duty; the home is treating each other sincerely, and the home is able to make a long journey. The home is the station of our life, the paradise of our life, and the harbor where we are sheltered. The home is still an old raincoat, and it can only reflect its true value in the storm.
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view, family is the most important for me. Our family is the only one who loves us from the beginning of our life, even when you weren’t born. The family is a place for us to take a rest and enjoy the happiness. A family doesn’t need to be large. It might be just a couple who are deeply in love with each other. ReplyDeleteFamily is where I can always rely on. In my opinion, a family do not have to have two parents. The most important thing is that they love each other. Family is pretty important. Family is a place that I can say anything and talk about my emotions. I can trust my family unconditionally. If I do not have a family, I will be a lonely person. I have no support in this world. I am a truly independent individual and I have no family members. I can’t imagine life without family. That’s terrible. But life is continue, I can only accept and take care of my own family. ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, family is the most important things. I can not imagine what my life would be if I have no family or no home to rely on. Sharing, caring, loving each other is what each member in a family should do. Spreading loves is one of ways to let other member feel comfortable and proud to be in a family. Home is where we can come back after a long tiree day and we will always find our joys and happiness at that place.
ReplyDeleteThe general family has a father, a mother, a grandfather, grandparents, and some families have brothers and sisters. Some families are single-parent families, which is one of the children following the father or mother. These reasons are due to the fact that if the parents have divorced, or if your father or mother has died. There is also reorganization of the family, which means that the spouse is remarried or the two parties remarry. The main family consists of a pair of parents and a pair of married children (or other relatives). However, most families are happy, just like us. Therefore, having a family is happy and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteFor me, family means to have someone who I can trust and shares my problems. Family is such a lovely and a strong word for everyone. There are five people in my family, my mother, father and my two little brother. Family play the most important role in my life. Family will be a place where support you the most and love you the most in the world. It's good to have family. I had seen some people who only have one side of his parents. But love is unlimited. No matter you have one parent or two, it won't change anything. Family is also means to have respect for each other and responsibility. For me, it's great to have a family. I'm very happy to live with my family.

The reason is without a dad or a mom, a child can be easily influenced by outside factors such as friends causing them to have major changes in personalities and lifestyle. Without a dad or a mom the child is will have more freedom so that they can fall into things that are not necessary in their life
ReplyDeleteI think family is very important for someone's growth. A loving family is the best. I think it must have two parents because parents are the child’s first teacher. When one parent makes a mistake another parent can correct it. Children can also get double love. If a family is missing a parent it is incomplete. I have mom and dad and a cute sister. I think I am very happy. My parents love me and my sister very much. They gave us the best of all, including education. I am very appreciate that I have a such great family.
ReplyDeleteFamily is one of the most important thing for human society. For me family must include a father a mother at least one child. Family is like a haven. It is a place that can make you feel save. You can share your real idea, and be yourself. It is a place that can always give you help, and support you what ever you face to. Then family is the first place that you can get education. In fact you already learned a lot before you go to real school. I can’t imagine what will like be like with out family. I do not think family should only be certain number of people like two parents and a child. It could be a large family that is full of brothers and sisters. At least they could help each, and they could be named a family. I think people who do not have family wish to have a family because having a family is so nice!
I think family is a group of people stay together no matter what happens. They will truly care about each other. They will not hurt each other because of profit to their self. It never mattered to a family that how many people or a father and mother lives with you together.

ReplyDeleteFamily is a simple word. But I’m sure it’s not only include your consanguinity. For my own experience, the person who you truly love, and you trust, even give all your kindness to him or her. Then this person is your family. For example, last year I had a host family. I love them just like my own family. Because they treat me just like their own kids. Studying alone abroad is a lonely thing. But they made me feel the kindness and warm. There’s never enough that only say thank you to them. So I will use my own true heart to love them as a family. Family is an interdependent relationship. You try best to be in part of family. Then you will always have a safe place to stay in this strange world.

Most of you believe in the traditional two-parent and child(ren) unit, though some of you define family as a group of people who love one another, no matter what. There's no question, family can mean different things to different people, but everyone agrees that life would be pretty hard without one.

Home, even if it is poor again, as long as someone is, it is complete and warm. People without a family are always empty. Like me now, my heart desires to have a family at all times and can go home. ReplyDeleteI think that famili is a group of people who care and protect each other. It is not necessary for a family to have 2 parents or a child, because people care about who they want to, and that no necessarily should be a child or other partner. Families are important for society because basically form the society. Most of the families usually have 1 or more children, and they start to take care of him too. They edicate him how to care about others, ex: show respect, help, etc. And then, when that child grows he use that knowledge to form and live in society.
ReplyDeleteI think family at different time is different. When you are child, family means class. All the family members are teachers for you and you need learn from them how to be a good person. When you as a parent. Family means responsibility. You need take care both of your parents and children. You are in charge for everything. When you get older. Family means haven. Basically, I don’t think a family have to have 2 people as parents, but it is necessary that to have 2 parents to hold family. Not only parents, children can’t be unnecessary, without their children, parents can’t be happy, and even in the hard time, if they can be with their children, everything is going to br alright, that is how family is important to each individual, and if every family can be happy and safe and sound, the society is going to be led to the positive side. ReplyDeleteI think any family is composed of father mother and child. Only such a family will be perfect. Each family is a small group, and the whole society is composed of a small group of collectives. If a family has no father or mother, the children of this family will lose part of their love from childhood. As a result, you may suffer from mental illness. The home is our safe haven. Whenever we are in a child's home, whatever troubles are caused, we just have to go home and parents will help us to solve it. The family will always support us, love us forever, and never betray us. So everyone must love their own home and love their parents.

Loving each other should be important for a health family. And the big different between family and society is : family expecting loving you there is no any profit no one in the family will harm you. And the years pass mom and dad leave us we become mom and dad we are acting like our mom and dad to loving our kids again it’s like replace and kid are always acting like their parents.
