This short poem by the American poet, Robert Frost, poses the question: how will the world end - through fire or ice? If fire is desire, and ice is hate, either one is capable of destroying the world. In the end, it doesn't really matter how the world ends, it only matters that the world ends. I thought of it because the weather is getting really cold, and January is the coldest month. In your opinion, which is the greater destroyer: fire/desire, or ice/hate? If that's too hard to think about, discuss which you prefer: extreme cold or extreme heat.
I prefer fire.If fire is desire, and ice is hate, either one is capable of destroying the world. I think desire is a good word,Desire is good and hatred is not.We should all have desires,not hate.Desire can make me better and better.And I don't like winter,because is very cold now is not comfortable.so in my opinion,I think fire/desire is the greater destroyer.
ReplyDeleteI do not like the cold nor the hot, I do not want the world because of one of these ends. I can only say that I like extremely cold or very hot, but I prefer cold, I do not like hot, in the heat when we can not have air conditioning anytime, anywhere. But if it's cold, we can at least act and let's warm ourselves up. So I feel like I prefer winter, I do not like summer. I say that I like being cold and actually having a connection with the city I live in. The city I live in is a particularly hot place, sweating profusely when I wake up in the summer. I hate the hot, the city I live in is not so cold, I think in the cold and hot, I still prefer cold. So I think if the world in one of these two ways to end, I still feel cold / hate the most I accep

ReplyDeleteI prefer the fire, should be more cold for me. And in Shenzhen, China, where I live, where there has never been snow before, so I've never been to a cold place. ReplyDeleteI think fire , I don't like hot because in my live city in China is too hot ,when in winter there is hot too,so I think in my city I hope colder is good weather.In my city I didn' see snow yet.so that's is why I prefer fire.
ReplyDeleteI dont really like cold weather or hot weather with me living in a place that have 4 seasons are the best because each season has their own beautiful and not every where have it. But have to say i prefer normal temperature because no one will die
ReplyDeleteI prefer living in a place with four seasons as Richard said but if I have to chose I prefer extreme cold because you can use as many layers of clothes as you want so you don’t necessarily need to be cold.

I had always say it and I will never stop saying it. Cold is much better than warm, even if it is extreme cold like in saco. As much of the students said, with a cold weather you can wear as much hoodies or jackets as you want and with a warm weather even you get naked you will still be hot. Also having a cold weather it’s sometimes very good, because you can drink a hot chocolate in the snow, or do a fire outside with your friends. That’s what I think extreme cold it’s much better.
ReplyDeleteI prefer extreme heat. Because my favorite season is summer if the weather is hot we can go to the beach every day to eat a lot of ice cream and watermelon. If you don’t like to stay outdoors, we can stay in the room and then turn on the air conditioner at a very low temperature. I do not like the extreme cold weather because I do not like to wear heavy clothes and it is also very unsafe to have a lot of snow when the weather is cold.

First, I don’t like extreme things. But if I must choose, I will prefer cold. Thousand years before, people make a fire to get themselves warmer. When we know how to make fire. We can get warm easily. But if when we feel hot. We find a cave to hide or take a cold shower. Now people have more ways to solve cold like warm gas. But we still can't be easily to make cold when we do not use air conditioning.

ReplyDeletePersonally speaking, I think both of desire and hate can destroy our world and cause millions of kills. My idea is desire and hate are the neutral human beings. Enough amount desire and hate can launch a serious massacre and almostly the reason for every war are the desire and hate. They can turn a kind people to a cold blood demon. I do not think I am able to judge which is a greater destroyer. But they are both devil human beings.
ReplyDeleteI think in the future the fire may destroy the world. From the wars that took place in the past, we can find that the reasons for the war are many because of the desire. For example, both the First World War and the Second World War led to the war because of the sovereign desire. They want to rule the entire world for more rights and infinite prosperity. Earth is the home of human existence. If human beings fight because of their desires, the world will be destroyed someday.

I like cold because I was born in northeastern China.I do not like the summer because it's too hot for me to feel uncomfortable.And I think extreme cold and extreme heat are not good，just like desire and hate are not good.Extreme cold and extreme heat，they are all have the power to destroy the world. Desire and hate also can destroy a person. I do not know what the end of the world would be , but I know one thing, whatever extreme cold or extreme heat, they may all be the end of the world.
End only come from heat. The extreme cold can bring the end of eternity. The reason why we are here because of heat. Heat brings life and actives. Absolute zero will stop all movement. Heat is good for us, such as stars. In Solar System Sun gives us heat. But after 500 million years Sun will destroy all over the Solar System and Sun will be tuned in a white dwarf to release the tiny amount of heat that left over. After all the all processes our Solar System will back cold, silent and still.
ReplyDeleteFor my personal think I prefer winter, because if the weather is extremely hot you will gonna sweat which makes you feel bad, also it smells bad too, but if the weather is cold you can stay at home and turn some heater and make yourself warm. Also I was born on South Korea which has 4 season, so I know how it is bad to live on hot weather. Also whe the weather is extremely hot it ca cause a lot of bad influences for example global warming, but also when the weather is extremely cold there are some disadvantages too, but in my opinion cold weather is better than the extremely hot weather.

It is the primary power to urge everything connects to us developed. Many inventions were created by this. For example, people want to communicate with others, that the reason languages were born.

Those desires we have which are against our morals can destroy us. We called those desires evil. In human history, there were minions of wars. It’s not hard to find out that as the technology developing, we paid more and more in war. It is like a Double-edged sword , as we use it more, it will hurt us more.
Human may extinct in many ways, but I am sure that our desire is one of the most deadly arrows that shot to us.
I prefer the world die by the fire, the reason why is the technology is better than before, and peoples had invented many nuclear weapons. When the world war lll start the war will make the world die in the fire by nuclear weapons.

ReplyDeleteIt’s really hard to tell which can end the world. The fire is like desire and the ice is hate. Then I prefer to fire. It is uncontrollable and never stop. The desire will never be satisfied , no matter we are human or animals. Desire is unlimited. For instance, a person how have the right on government always want more right to control others, then one day he may wants to control the whole world. The expansion of desire spreads like a fire. Compare to the hate, one person’s hate not that easy to infect to others, but the egregious desire will end the world immediately.

Because I come from the northern part of china, there is very cold in my hometown but not that cold as Maine. I have lots of memories when I was a child. The cold weather always happen in November that what my birthday coming. So I celebrate every birthday during the cold weather that makes me have lot of good sense about cold.

If people keep wanting so much, the supplies will never reach the demands. The resources on the earth will have used up one day. Then there is really no chance for us to be alive. Hate can be suppressed but desire is kind of an instinct, it cannot be retrained or controlled.

For example, some people of a country wanted to expand their power and to snatch the property of other countries. At the same time other countries also wanted to get more from others. Therefore, these countries had war because they all want to satisfy their desires. Finally, billions of people who were innocent died because of several people’s desires. It shows that some people can hurt others and cause a big damage just in order to satisfy their own desires.
In my opinion, i think the world will be end by fire. Because the world begin to be high temperature, that makes the winner be short and the sea level be higher. That makes the land be disperse, and the desert keep become. So i think we need to keep planting the tree. Because i think this problem is already happened.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the word will be ended in to hot, the ice will have been melted, and the sea will be rising up, there will be not enough land for people, animals and plants, peoples will fight each other for survival. There will be war and death allover the earth, because they running out the fresh water and plants, food, people will start going crazy. Also because people break up the earth too much, the air pollution will also very bad too. People will ended on their hands.

First of all, it can be seen that the human’s desire is unlimited. And because of this human’s characteristic, it helps us to develop our life and society. We will never satisfy for what we are having. We always want more and more. For instance, we always try to expand our knowledge in many different ways. The desire of knowledge is never satisfied because people want to improve their life quality. As the result, it will bring the advantages to human. However, the desire is uncontrollable, and sometimes, it goes over the limit of justice. Some people risk their live to make the benefit from illegal jobs, which lead them to be sentenced in jail. Therefore, the desire can save and make the world become better, or it can destroy the world. On the other hand, the “cold” has the potential to destroy the whole humanity. The “cold”, or the hate, is able to start a war between 2 people, 2 countries, or, maybe World War 3 as it used to be in the past. The hate only brings the negative effects to the humanity. On the contrary, it could ruin the whole system of society. And it has higher potential to end the world.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, desire is more likely to kill some one. Human are greedy, they always want things they don't need in there control even if giving it to others may save lives. That is because of people's desire. What's more, many people die because they compete against others to get things they like. As they compete, the weaker one always lose.
So that's why I think that desire is a much dangerous killer.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the world is going to be destroyed because of the ice, which is hate, which will be caused by fire, which is desire. Desire of power was always a cause of uncountable wars and conflicts. Desire of ruling the whole world, having power, will always cause hate between people from different countries or cultures, desire even may be a cause of hate between people in the same culture, even in the same family.

Desire is for everyone. The desire to produce is the instinct of all animals. When you were a kid you bought a pair of 100-dollar shoes and you were happy. When you grew older, you found that a pair of 100-pair shoes would not make you happy. You bought a pair of 300 shoes, you feel happy, when you grow up a little, you found that 300 shoes can not satisfy you make you happy ... ... so people's desires are unlimited. Walking from people's hikes to the current aircraft, cars, trains ... Desire is the driving force of mankind's transformation of the world and the driving force of human evolution, social development and historical progress. For example, as technology advances day by day, mankind has been unable to meet with the earth and start to explore other planets. One day, humans may have really explored aliens, and aliens then destroy Earth. Of course, this is just my guess. ReplyDeleteI don’t like living in an extremely hot or cold weather but if I have to choose one, I would rather extremely hot. I never want to get cold because I will easily get sick and desease which is not good at all. It might also make me lazier and make me stay in the bed all time. Hot weather is my motivation to go out and play instead of spending hours in bed.

The other question I prefer desire because of course that destroy hate.

life. This is my first time living in a cold place.
I think that you can do more things in a warm place, like soccer, football, tennis, lacrosse, etc...
Instead in a cold place you can ski and you will be freezing.
But I really like here living in a cold place.
So I think that live in a warm place is a little bit better than live in a cold place.
I personally think that the world is going to end by the hot weather because you can’t do anything to stop the warm weather, with the cold weather you only need to put more clothes on you.
