The cold weather is coming, and many people love to curl up with a good
book when it's cold outside. Today, of course, you can read on digital
devices - iPhone, iPad, Laptop, Kindle... - so instead of books printed
on paper and bound by cloth covers, you have your personal device and
turn on your ebook. Do you read for pleasure? When you read, do you prefer traditional print books or the digital kind? (If you don't ever read, either for pleasure or for school, why don't you?)

I prefer to read books printed on paper. I can’t really tell the reason, I just feel that books printed on paper are better. They are soulful.
ReplyDeleteAfter I read this question, I asked myself a question. How long do I read a book completely since the last one? I suddenly find out that for years, I didn’t read a book for pleasure. When I was younger, I usually read books after school. I love Science fiction books the best. I read “The Three Body Problems” trilogy for three times and I always can find something new when I read it again.
As the time pass, I spend less and less time on reading. Maybe it’s time to sit down, pick a book to read, and taste the beauty in the book.
I prefer read a electronic book, because it is more convenient, there are verity of the books, and I am not very like to read the books, most of school, and I think the practicing is more interesting than reading.

DeleteI prefer to read books which is printed.Most people think the kindle is good, is good to eyes. I agree with them, I have a kindle and I read it sometimes.But my suggestion is, you better choose printed books. People will certainly say that kindle does not hurt the eyes, indeed, relative to the phone, really much better.But in fact there is still a certain degree of harm.And I also think is the printed books you can bring it a long time, maybe when many years ago, you can read the books again.But if it's on the kindle, maybe you can't find on the internet, still possible like you should pay more money for the book.So I think above is what my mind saying, different people have different idea.
ReplyDeleteThe kind of book I prefer to read is paper books. Where I came from(Beijing,China) is pretty cold during the long winters. I do like the view when it is snowing out side, but I don’t like the freezing air at all. What I always do to avoid going out is sitting by the window(like our dorm, the heater at my room at home is also by the window), and read a thick book. I’m used to lie the book on the heater, sit on my table and enjoy winter afternoons on my own. Those old books belongs to my grandparents or even great grand parents, so they are very old. I like the smell of printing ink very much. Most of them are famous Chinese novels. But some of them are translation version of typical foreign books as well. When it’s sunny out side, light come through the window and casts the shadow of the window frame onto my table. As time went by, it slowly slips by my book and I could imagine the characters in the book comes alive in such a comfortable condition. Years passed, I have read hundreds of books and even hundreds of times of one single book. Reading gave me a lot, and I thing ebook can never replace paper ones because it has everything but sense of age.

ReplyDeleteI prefer to read books on papers.it doesn't mean I don't like reading book online,Because They each have their own advantages.reading online we can have more choices.we can read all kind of book.like Comic、philosophy、modern novel……But some of the best-known books are slowly disappearing because of the proliferation of the internet because too many publishers change content or make mistakes when translating，so I like read books on the papers，and I really like those old books, because that has a great feeling.like you can as you can see the author at the time of writing this book,This is also the reason why many manuscripts of books are sold at auctions so high prices.I think so
ReplyDeleteI would like to read book on the paper printed because I can feeling the weight of book and I enjoy that moment I turned to next page. That is my personal habit but I think read kindle or use any apps on devices is best way to read in the modern society because it is easy to take and we can put a lot of books in our devices. And we don't need to turn the lights on for reading because we can just read them on the screen.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I have to say that I don't like to read books for pleasure, I just read books where I have to read them for the school, because I am dyslexic and for me read is a little difficult and when I realm more than 10 minutes I start to have headache. In my opinion the the digital books are better because you can have a lot of books in a skinny tablet and you don't have to care the thick book wherever you go.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I don’t really like reading books, but if the content is interesting me, I will read it all the days. Between books that are printed on paper and books are in digital devices like phone, iPad, I prefer to read books that are printed. It’s easier for me to read and understand the story than read it in my phone, and sometimes it makes my eyes feel bad. Sometimes, I can be distracted by the notifications or my group chat in that digital device, so that’s the reason why I don’t prefer to read books in the phone.
ReplyDeleteI like to read in the ebook because this is convenient if you forget to see which pages ebook can help you query browsing history,that is my prefer to ebook one of reason，and then i think Book should take to anywhere that isvvery inconvenient but e-books anytime and anywhere only need to use your mobile phone or ipad so that is why i prefer to ebook.
ReplyDeleteI was born in 21th century when the technology is developing so instead of books I am used to use technology more. However when I read books, I like reading on printed papers more than on the phone/ipad..because reading on technology devices make my eyes so tired and I think reading printed books will be more realistic. I don't usually read books but if a book is really interesting to me, I don't mind reading it day by day.
ReplyDeleteRead books. I rather read the physical one. When I read a physical book, I can feel the weigh of the book, that I can feel the value of the book. If you like reading on the digital devices, most of them will hurt your eyes, because of the blue ray and tiny screen will make our eyes tired and even make damage to our eyes. But I like read a lot. And Kindles are really good for the read. You can read a book, thanks for the e-ink screen. And they also can hold thousands of books.
ReplyDeleteI’d like to use electric books in my free time. There are some reasons, electric books are easy to keep, here is an example, when you go to travel or waiting someone when you are outside, you only have to bring an iPad or a phone, but if you reading on paper books, it’s to heavy to keep. however electric book can make people read more easily, can read any time any where, as long as you want to read. The other reason is reading on electric book can saving more space in your room. Some books are really thick and it always use many space in it owner’s room, but if people use electric books, this question will be solve easily. Those are the reasons why I support to using electric books.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to read on digital devices.Because most people think the paper book is kind of to do not hurt our eyes, but I think digital devices books like kindle do not hurt our eyes too, and It can be carried around, not as heavy as a book, just bring a charger enough. And a little software can be optimistic about many books. But I think The software is a bit of a bad place, that is, like paper books we can borrow in the library to see, and we can only read e-books have been downloaded and free books, if you want to see your favorite books, You have to pay to buy it. But I think such software is better than paper books, though it has a little flaw, but there should be no perfect thing in the world.

ReplyDeleteI prefer to read electric books, because the electric books are very convenient and easy to bring it I can read many of my favorite books at the same time. If there are paper books is to heavy to bring them. Electric books are more environmentally it's can make us cut less trees. If there are a lot of paper books at home I would find one of them is hard to find, but the electric books is very convenient to find.
I like to use the books printed on paper. Because i like to touch the paper when i read a book. Sometime i will read a book online because that is convenient, but if i find a book i really like i will to buy the book printed on paper. Also i think read the book on paper can make me sink down, that can make me more forces to read the book.
ReplyDeleteI am a person who does not like reading, but I like to buy books. When I went to the bookstore with my mom, I could not stop trying to buy some new books. After I finished buying these books, I always decided to read them. But when I read a book for a while I feel bored. I like to read comic books and some pictures because it makes me feel very interesting. I also have a kindle. I often use it to read but just a while when I in China. However, before I come to America I sent it to my younger sister. I think I think this thing should be sent to useful people to use or waste. My sister is a good candidate.

ReplyDeleteIm a person that only read books for school and that is because I prefer to watch movies instead of read because sometimes read is bored for me.
I don’t like to read, only sometimes when the book is really good. I prefer to read in books and not in ipads or kindle, because in a book I can underline the things that are important for me in the book. Last year I didn’t read any books but then I read a book that I like it a lot so I read all the 3 books. For me read is a little bored but when you like the book is really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to read books printed on paper. If I read books on digital devices, I always want to see some other things, my attention will not be focused on the books. Then I will start playing games, chatting with my friends. Finally, I will forget to read books. If I read books on digital devices and keep watching on my screen for a long time. It can also hurt my eyes.
ReplyDeleteNowadays reading books is very convenient in our life, The original heavy book can now be installed in the phone. But I don't like read book in the phone or digital devices, because I don't think reading book should in the free time or spare time. I think reading books should be a hobbit. You should read it every single day maybe just in the weekends. In my life I have a half hour to read books everyday. Actually Sometimes I read book just for fun, but I usually read book improve my knowledges. In this way I prefer to reading books on the printed books. I want to take some notes on the book, because I do not only read one time in one book. I want let me know what questions I still have and what did I learn last time read this book.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I like reading with a real book than a digital one (like Kindle, iPad,... ) because it makes me more focus than the details of the book. Beside, it's good for your eyes also, like contact with the electronic too much is no good at all. I rarely read book, except things that I can't miss. If that book is really good and was recommended by someone, I would definitely sink in to that book.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, sometimes I have a little interested in reading since I'm not a good reader. Most of the time, I read to gain knowledge because there are plenty of information in the book that we probably couldn't find on the Internet. However, since I'm very busy with SAT and stuff at school, when I have a little free time during the night, I usually spend that time for reading books. Right now, I'm reading a book that tells me about college admissions.
ReplyDeleteAs a person like me, I would prefer the traditional print book since I'm not a good at focusing. Therefore, reading stories on devices will distract me since there are bunches of stuff on the Internet that could interrupt me from reading. Hence, print book is the best choice for me.
On my personal opinion I prefer real books,because I like to touch the paper,be able to actually turn the page and not just press a button.I don't read books a lot probably I read 2-3 books pear year,but I'm always reading articles and notes on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI love reading. A good book is the best of friends, the same today and forever. I always reading on phone and iPad cause is much easier for me to get which book I want to read. But it doesn't means I don’t like paper books. I love the feels that like touching paper and smelling books. And it is good for eyes. People definitely understand paper books is better. But sometimes we can’t find the books we want to read. For example I have no idea how to get a not famous Chinese novel in the US book store. So that's why most people including me choose ebook.
ReplyDeleteI am a person who don’t like to read book very much but if a book seems interesting to me, I will spend days just to read that book. In my opinion, I prefer printed book more than reading it on Ipad,Kindle. Reading story on technology stuff can cause me eye strain and make my eyes tired, even make me impossible to concentrate on what I read because of notifications on social media.
ReplyDeleteI would like to read on electronic devices. For me I have a kindle. I will always read on kindle. I think kindle are easy to use. One kindle can handle a lot of book, but a paper book can only handle one. We can read in whatever the place, including the dark place. But paper book can not. Some people will worried about eyes. Most of the electronic version book do have this problem, but kindle do not have this problem. So you should not worry about it. I love new technology. I think it can make our life much more easier.

ReplyDeleteI prefer the digital kind of books. First, it's more convenient to read by the digital kind of books. For example,we just need to spend 2 minutes to download the e-books but I need about 20 minutes to look for the book in the bookstores. And it's much easier to carry the digital kind than books. Second, it helps us save money because the traditional print books are usually expensive,but some of the e-books are free. Third, if I lose the interest when I read the half of book online, I can delete it easily without thinking if it is wasteful to throw away.
I read books for pressure and I’d like to read novels instead of some famous work written by those famous writers. I prefer reading digital books. First, digital books are easy to keep. The only thing you need is a digital device like a smartphone or an iPad. It is much easier to keep it in your bag rather than bringing several books. Second, most of those e-books are inexpensive and some of them are free. For the reasons above, I prefer reading e-books.
ReplyDeleteWell as we know, there are lots of digital device that can provide the reading. Such as iBook and kindle. Especially kindle, I prefer use kindle when we stay at home and enjoy the reading time. There are lots of book available on Amazon so you can purchase them and download on your kindle. The reason why I use kindle because it is imitate the real paper that can protect your eyes away from screen. And also the price in amazon the same boom with kindle form are only a few dollar. But the real book are much more expensive, also if you purchase them with kindle you can download it immediately, otherwise you have to wait delivery for real books.

ReplyDeleteMost of texts that i read are news titles, scientific titles, and just funny stories that happened with some people.
I don’t know why, but i can’t read books for a long time, that’s the reason why i don’t like to read. Somehow when i read long texts for a long time, in just 10 minutes i start to be unfocused, and I can not perceive and understand the meaning of the text. That’s why i read only short and interesting for me texts, so i stay focused and understand everything. I read from my phone because that is the easiest way.
Thanks, everyone, for your comments on reading and printed books vs. eBooks. My informal tally has 12 of you preferring eBooks and 17 of you preferring printed books. People mention the convenience and lower cost of digital texts; on the other hand, others like the feel of paper, and holding a book while they read. Paper books are easier on the eyes, they add, and aren't subject to distraction (as digital devices are).
ReplyDeleteMy father always tells me that i have to read books everyday. He says whenever i have time i should go to the library to read book. Because book is one of the most important thing to make you have more knowledge. I prefer to read book online because, in the internet there are many things that the store doesnt have. Also when I read book online, i usually read by English version which mean i can translate the words that i dont understand easier and faster then paper books. But the thing i read the most is about business i think in the future i will become a business man.

ReplyDeleteWith the great galloping development of this modern world, gradually using electronic devices for reading books is getting more and more popular. And for me, I like the electronic books better. Because compared to the paper books, electronic books are way more convenient. Electronic books are easy to carry. More than this, electronic books are environment friendly, they save paper. And it is easy to find a book you want, because search engines are very powerful today.
In my personal opinion, I would love to read a book at my free time. I very like read book from when I was very young, my mom used to give me a lot of book to me, so that makes me read very fast, I usually will read same book 3 time, if it is very hard to understand the deep meaning. My book mostly are paper book, but I read book online too. I think the paper book and the book online are both have good way for me. I like the paper book, because I like to collect book in my bookshelf and when you read paper book you can touch the paper and small it, I just don’t know how to say it. But I think I read online book because it is very convenient and it’s easy for people who are like me from different country and they want read book from their home language, then they can read book from online.
ReplyDeleteI still like reading, whether in books or on mobile phones. I read every day in elementary school until now. The benefit of reading online is that you can find more books to read, but publishers often translate the wrong person's meanings and phrases. If you look at the book, you will not be able to read it. You will also narrow the distance between the reader and the author. Enable readers to better understand the author's feelings. So no matter where you study, are good, as long as you carefully read.
ReplyDeleteI personally prefer to read in traditional print books, I can focus better because when you are in your iPad you can see notifications of a lot of apps and you can be distracted, so I prefer to read in traditional paper.
ReplyDeleteI don’t like to read a lot, I prefer to read some news or things that are going on actually, I prefer to read actual things that are happening in the world.
Be honest, I like to read the novels and comics most. Also I would like to read some classic books to improve myself. I enjoyed to read everything from the books printed on the paper before I got a smart phone. In fact, smart phone can’t instead the organizational book because I think it depends on what type of book you are reading. For instance, like a classic book, I prefer to read on book printed on the paper because it makes me pay more attention and it will not hurt your eyes. You can understand more detail from the book more than the movie or website page. Another example, comics and novels, most of time these just story and pictures and human talking. You don’t need think a lot or use your brain to understand the meanings, and we always look through the website page really fast, then how much knowledge we really get from the website novels? But there have a fact, if some books are hard and expensive to get from the store, this time, I will choose just read at the website.

ReplyDeleteI prefer to read books on paper. Reading on computer can cause shortsightedness. The paper version can not only be collected. But also we can take more notes on paper version. Paper version can be read at any time. If iPad out of battery. We can’t read. That’s why I prefer paper version.
I prefer ebook, because ebook is easily to take, and you can read anytime, if there is no light, that's ok, because ebook don't need lights, and you can download whatever the book you want read.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Ipad than a paper book because when i read on a paper book I always can’t finish the book i was reading, because it is hard to bring with me everytime, but with e book it is much easier to carry with me and also it marks automatically the page that i was reading before, also e book is useful if we are reading in dark place with paper book we cannot read it but with e book we can read clearly, therefore i prefer e book than paper book.

ReplyDeleteThis question for me kind of like half half.It's doesn't matter for whether read on paper,e-books or online.I am really like reading so sometimes I will read for hours.And phones or electronice are bad for your eyes.So if I must choose one,I will say I prefer the paper one.
ReplyDeleteI am a man who likes to read paper books (a bit uncomfortable, I used to say that love to read books is a paper book, but now I have to point it out), and I am also an electronic reader. Had read a few dozen books with a cell phone, daily basic reading on the Internet, Mark dozens of articles see sore eyes. Now I bought a poor scholar must have: kindle.
ReplyDeleteE-books are very important to me. Many want to read the book without any means and no money to buy. For example, Cambridge Chinese History Series, many want to see the book is banned books, such as wild ~ husband's "dust ~ world ~ pull ~ song" , What teacher "fog ~ lock ~ ~ ~ in the country", before the total ~ book ~ remember "state prisoners ~ ~ change ~ leather dilemma" and so on. The benefits of e-books now show up:
First, save money (especially in the case of porcelain without payment habits)
Second, freedom (wall porcelain country)
Third, convenient. Read anytime, anywhere.
So I think reading e-books is not something down, unless you buy an e-book but do not read.
The history of reading paper books is too long. People are always prone to reliance on what is customary, and so is paper.
To my point of view, reading on an electronic device is never as good as reading on a real book. This is because a paper-book would make you more focus to the story, about what are the character are trying to express or what will the end be. Furthermore, it would make me feel more exciting when I'm reaching toward the end of the story. As a person that hardly ever read book like me, I would recommend people to read on paper-book rather than an electronic.

The books in electronic form is weird for me, because it doesn’t feel like you are reading a book, and also if I can do on my phone or computer, I prefer to watch a video or something but not to read. The traditional books give people a feel, kind of a passion, which the electronic books can’t do.

Although ebook is already normal in this modern world, but there still some inconvenient. For example is need battery and some times need internet, but for printed book is not.
I do not have much opinion on traditional books or electronic devices, but I still prefer to use electronic devices to read books. Because electronic devices are more convenient and suitable for the general public, the number of traditional books is limited. If It's bad stuff to cut down trees in order to supply lots of books, and basically everyone has a cell phone, and I still prefer to use electronic devices to read books
ReplyDeleteIn nowadays, the technology increasing very soon and digital devices full of our social life. In my own opinion reading book is a very good habit that should be kept. Firstly, more book you read, more knowledge you learned. The books bring lots of good opinion and the article to us. We can't leave book because the book is the only way that old people can inherited to us. There are lots of good poem the winter writing, we can learn a lot from that single simple poem. However there are lots of colorful thing around us.We read the book much less than before . So I think everyone should pick up your book and staring read something.
