This time of year - autumn - is the best time to eat in New England. The harvest is in, and you can find all kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables in farmers markets, roadside farm stands, restaurants, and grocery stores. My favorites include corn, tomatoes, and apples. How about you? What are your favorite foods? Is there food that you love to eat in your country that you can't find here in America? Tell us about it!

- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
My favorite food is dumplings and chaos, because I am from the north, so I like to eat noodles. Of course, these things are common in America.And when we celebrate the New Year, we eat these things, and we eat them together with laba garlic.So I like it very much.
ReplyDeleteCause I am form China, most people think Chinese like rice.But China's north people like noodles, but I am from south, Hangzhou, near by Shanghai.So my favorite food is rice.I know I can eat rice in America, but rice is from China, I think China's rice is greatest. I think that's all I have to say.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of favorite fruit, like watermelon, strawberry, tomato, but I like to eat passion fruit, it is sour sweet and sweet, it is common in our country, the elderly children like to eat, its effect is beauty beauty and Very helpful to fitness, I really like passion fruit.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is BBQ in China, the BBQ from China has a big difference with th America BBQ. We usually cooked the BBQ food with salt, oil, cumin powder, and mashed garlic. At here, most BBQ food are cook with sweet BBQ sauce. I can’t get the BBQ I want at here because I didn’t find a restaurant have it. One of the biggest reasons that I want to go back to China is I want to eat the BBQ food.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite food is hot pot. It's a traditional food in China. It is usually cooked with a pot. The pot has boiled soup, soup can be spicy. People usually eat tofu, meat, vegetables and quail eggs with hot pot. We put these into the hot pot, waiting for food boiled. I really like the spicy hot pot. My family always enjoys hot pot together. More people, more fun. I miss hot pot so much. And I should eat it again with my family when I go back China.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite foods is “caldo gallego” typical from where I live in Spain Galicia.
ReplyDeleteIt’s like a soup with vegetables, cooked potato and a lot of meat like bacon.
My grandpa used to do it and it was soooo good now that he passed away it’s my grandma who does it, it’s not the same but it’s also good.
My grandma cultivates the vegetables that she use for the soup and my family also killsevery year the pig that they’re going to use.

ReplyDeleteMostly, in the South East Asia, the food are very abundant because there are many ingredients and ways to cook it. Even though, probably everyone will have their own favourite food. With me, my favourite food in my country is "Pho" which is one of the most famous food from Vietnam that other countries know. Pho is very common and easy to eat. We can eat it anytime and no matters what there are always a restaurant opens for me to eat. In here, there is a Vietnamese restaurant but it is too far away from the school so probably i couldnt go that far but luckily this November i can come back to Vietnam and eat that delicious food.
ReplyDeleteI am from south of China. Some Chinese in south can not eat too much spicy but I am an exception. I very like Chinese hot pot. Especially some hot pot in Sichuan province because it's the most spicy in China. After I eat hot pot, I like to eat some ice cream. I think it's very nice. However, It's also bad for your stomach so I Aracely do this. When you come to China one day, I suggest you can try it for dinner.
ReplyDeleteIn Mexico I live in a zone that have a lot of variations of fresh fruits, we have mangos, we have fresh apples, tomatoes and obviously we have fresh chilies.
ReplyDeleteWe have fresh fruits all the year in Mexico, but my favorite fruit is the "dragon fruit" or in Mexico the "pitahaya", that fruit have a very good taste and a lot of nutrients I love it!
But my favorite food if México of course are the tacos, we have the "tacos de pastor" that I love, they are made of meat of pig and you can add some guacamole to it.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I have to say that I like all type of food, the Italian food, the Mexican food or the Chinese food. The only thing that I hate and I could never eat it are the candys.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is definitely the sushi. I love all type of sushis, the typical fishes and the rare fishes. I also like a lot the Mexican food like the tacos, I love to try new things like tacos of eyes of bull, or tacos of tongue and things like that.
The reason why I moved to US, is that I don't like some aspects of Kazakh culture, and food is one of them.
ReplyDeleteI honestly hate my Kazakh national food mostly because all of dishes are based on horse meat ( which stinks a lot, and you won't be able to remove this smell from home), fatty pastry and tons of liquid fat. I hate such things, especially when you entering the flat or house and your eyes start to peel from the smell of boiled fat and meat.
I can't say that I miss any food from Kazakhstan because some part of food in Kazakhstan is connected with russian food, and counting the fact that part of my family moved from Kazakhstan to the US, I still have "access" to my favorite food. So I do not miss any food.
In principle, I'm not fastidious in food, but there are very strict exceptions such as: fried, boiled, baked vegetables and fruits; dishes with a lot of onions, most soups, and several kinds of meat
In China there are many other countries do not have food.Chinese people are good at all kinds of things into food.I know in Maine there are many lobsters,It's very delicious,but in China,we have a food called mini lobster.You can make a lot of kinds of smell.it's also very delicious.and we have many interesting food such as hot pot.If you have changes you can eat it
ReplyDeleteI love sea food really much,specially lobster.That is one reason why I came Maine for high school. When I came to Maine, I had taste lobsters in many restaurants,and I hope we can have lobster in our dining hall in the future.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite foods are glutinous rice and soybean milk.I come from Wenzhou,Zhejiang in southern China and glutinous rice is a characteristic food in my hometown.I used to eat it almost every day,but I never got bored.Because it has many flavors and we can choose to add some ingredients like meat and fried bread stick.If we eat it with soybean milk,it will taste better.According to incomplete investigation:over 90% of people who lived in wenzhou would miss the glutinous rice.I’m no exception.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is moon cake.The moon cake is used to celebrate of a traditional Chinese festival.In this festival family will eat moon cake and see the moon,chat together.Someone like salty moon cake,but I like sweet moon cake.The moon cakes are made of flour wrappers with filling.

My favorite food is my mom cook. When I back to China my mom always will ask me what do you want to eat? Because we can’t have the really good Chinese food in here. I really miss the food in China. And also the changdu have a lot of food, like the hot pot, spicy chicken and a lot of spicy food. My mom is a really good cook, she can make a lot kind food. Because is her made for me, so that makes the food more delicious. And my favorite fruit is durian, someone will think this fruit is smell strange and smell bad, but if you like that, this fruit is really really good.
ReplyDeleteChina is a vast land rich in natural resources, which allow China has many kinds of food. For me, my favorite food is dumplings. In America, dumplings are not that popular and well known, but you still can find it in America. For China, it is popular all over the country. And in each area, dumplings have development it’s own style. There are two reasons about why I like dumplings the best. The first reason is that dumplings are delicious, I can only eat dumplings for a meal. The second reason is that when I was a little kid. My parents always cooked dumplings for me. I really recommend dumplings to you guys, it is worth to try it.
ReplyDeleteIt is not very easy for me to find a favorite food. Because there is a lot of great food in China. But if you really want let me choose one. But if you want me to choose a big type of the I have to say the Sichuan cuisine. Sichuan cuisine is one of eight most famous cuisine. The most famous characteristic of Sichuan cuisine is spicy. Then Sichuan cuisine can use the most ordinary ingredients to cook the most delicious dish. This is the part that I love the most.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is Chinese traditional noodle. Last week I went to the Fryeburg Fair, there had a lot traditional food, such as candy apple, turkey leg. I’m sure they taste really good but I still miss the noodle that my mom cooked. It’s different from pasta our Instant noodles, we use the hot water to boiling it first and we put some tomato and chicken to make it taste better. And we also use salt, pepper or more different kind of condiments. I know is hard to find noodle in Saco. But I’m try to learn how to cook this delicious dishe. Hope I can still find the taste from my hometown.
ReplyDeleteEvery people eat food everyday. Before We been Maine, we eat food in our hometowns. In my life, I usually eat food by my mum. The favorite one is noodles with soy bean paste. Noodles with soy bean paste is traditional food in Beijing. My mother is very good at cook it, she usually put some rock candy in the soy bean paste. In here I can find noodles with soy bean paste, but it tastes different than my home noodles. As far as I am concerned, I don't mind there Chinese food is not authentic. I like try some new food.
ReplyDeleteThere are many kinds of food in China. There are different kinds of traditional food in different areas. My favorite food is one of the traditional food in my hometown. It's called Liangpi. It's a very popular traditional food in the northern part of China. It's similar to noodle but it is made of wheat flour as raw material. Liangpi has a long history. It is said that Liangpi has existed for more than two thousand years.
ReplyDeleteIn China, it is a very big country so there are many fruits that I can eat. The most lovely and delicious fruit that I like is banana. The shape and size of banana looks very funny and the color yellow makes it looks very fashion. The reason that I like banana is because it have a good taste and contain a lot of vitamin which makes me healthy.

ReplyDeleteFood that I like a lot.... but there is not here in Saco and that makes me so sad because I want to eat it.
I think that here the American food makes you more fat and have a lot of sugar. One of my favorites food is sushi and spaghetti and meat balls.
There's another food that I like a lot that is called "panuchos". That food have tortilla with beans inside and chicken and you can put tomatoes, lettuce, etc...
There are many foods that i like from mexico. But the food i miss the most is the spicy food, i dont know why there is no spicy food here. And my other favorite food is the sushi but i dont have problem with that because there is sushi everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of good foods in Korea. Especially i miss a korea spicy rice cake I really love that food also i miss korea pork belly we always eats that with alcohol which taste really good, but i can’t find in here or in America. The spicy rice cake is made of rice cake and spicy sauce also we put some noodles too which we can get full by that. Our ancestor made it 70 years ago and it is still popular in all over the world.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is unhealthy. I like eat potato chips. I have eaten most favor of Lays and still trying new brands in the US. I enjoy the chips crisp in my mouth. I can eat the family size one myself in two days. Now the Humpty Dumpty is my favorite photo chips. I enjoy the all dressed up favor. Course you never don't know which favor you gotta have next. And if you mixed them up. The favor will be more amazing. I want to try more in the future, but I also noticed it is super unhealthy to eat a lot of chips like that.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is corn. I think that there aren't not much people like corn this much as I do and it is not a traditional food in my country. I love corn, it tastes sweet, smell good and It is yellow and hot. I used to eat corn everyday in more than one month.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is Tacos.Tacos are a traditional Mexican food that consists in a tortilla folded in half with meat in it. We eat it with salsa and lemon.I can only find them in Mexico because Americans do them wrong.

, I mean cakes or chocolate.at fits my favorite Russia food is “sharlotka” we have Nationality cake and it’s named “sharlotka” it’s a cake with caramel and apple,
in the beginning you put diced apple in the dough and pour caramel after put you bake it and when it’s done you should pour caramel again. I like it to eat with orange juice or chocolate milk. I saw probably the same in New York.
My favorite food is steak, beef because different parts with different taste, and just the Maine have steak house is specially serve steak, I almost every week to go, although the price is slightly more expensive but very delicious. The steak is the only foreign food that I really like, and I think it's not just food, but it's also a real cooking art.
ReplyDeleteChina is a big country, not only for area, but also for food culture, there are lots of food are really good, and cannot find in others place. Even some traditional foods from my city can't be found in other city even in China. My favorite one is the cold noodle, it is only can find in China, and most of store sale the cold noodle is all like the a small store with no good environment. it is test cold and some spicy some sour.
ReplyDeleteI like the fruit there are many, there are round and purple grapes, sweet and sour orange, sweet watermelon, there are big white pears, but I like to eat the number of attractive bananas.
ReplyDeleteThe appearance of the banana is yellow, a long list of bananas like a banana fan, a banana looks like crescent like bending, but also like a boat in the water slowly wandering. Peeled the banana peel, which exposed long and white flesh, looks very attractive, really want to eat it all of a sudden. There was a bunch of bananas on my table. Every day home, I always wash your hands, and then eat a banana, peel the skin after eating a, wow - really sweet ah! Let me from the mouth sweet to the heart, make me feel good.
My home town is the capital of china. It has lots of historically thing in Beijing. The Beijing duck is the most famous food in Beijing. It's very hard to make and cost a lot of time for cook it. In Saco, their just have one Chinese restaurant chlled "China House" It taste very good but also has tiny difference compare with my hometown food.
ReplyDeleteI like food a lot, and I've tried many kinds of food. But there is one that I can't find anywhere else but my homeland, that's Pho. Pho is made of starch, people stretched that to make some kind of noodle. Then they add broth and meat. It tasted really good. That's why Pho is very famous in our country, and in other country as well.
ReplyDeleteI like many kinds of food at every different time and right now, my favourite food is fries. Fries are cut deep-fried potatoes. It is really good and it is also easy to make. I'd love to eat fries which are served hot and soft. Some people will choose ketchup to eat with fries but for me, I will choose salt because I like the original flavour. I can eat it in every occasions and I think this kind of snack tastes really amazing when I am hungry at night. I often eat fries because it is really fat and unhealthy.

I come from Harbin, it's the Northern part of China. Most people come from northern like to eat wheaten food such as Noodle, Tofu and dumplings, but my favorite food is Roasted noodles. However, Roasted noodles is becoming to“ street culture” in China. Because It's very easy to find everywhere in Harbin near the street. It taste not only spicy, but also salty. Even though China has lots of delicious foods but that is my favorite food. If you have chances to go Harbin,you have to try it. You will be surprised. I'm so sad there is no, I wish I will find Roasted noodle in Boston.

The food I love to eat most is salmon sandwiches. I first ate it in my middle school cafeteria when I was in grade 8. It just ignite my taste buds suddenly and I recognize that it was the best food I’ve ever eaten. Let me describe it for you. Between two sliced whole-wheat bread, there’s a few pieces of fresh lettuce and here comes the most important part, the inside part of the bread is covered with tasty salmon sauce and with its great look and taste, the only thing you want to do will be a bite on it. From then on, I almost never ate anything else in the cafe. I missed it a lot.
I have tried many food from diffrent countries. But there is only 1 food that I consider the best is Salmon. Salmon can be cooked in different ways. In Japan, we have fresh Salmon’s meat with soy sauce. In Vietnam, we have salmon fried. The meat is sweet and tough. Salmon is one of the most delicious fishes in the world.

Doughnut is made from a deep-fried piece of dough or batter, commonly made in a toroidal or ellipsoidal shape, and mixed with various sweeteners and flavors, sometimes filled with jelly, custard or cream. My favorite kind os doughnut is a softly crispy doughnut on the outside with a sweet chocolate iceing spread out evenly over the top, nice soft dough. When I was in Vietnam, my parents always bought doughnuts for me and I really can't stop eating them.

I come from China, so I most like to eat Chinese food, I most like to eat hot pot, because when eating hot pot must be a lot of people eat together so we can go with our family or good friends, this is a very good chance to talk to friends and family. And eating hot pot can eat a lot of different vegetables, meat or seafood. I think it's very healthy

ReplyDeleteMy favorite food in my country is cold rice noodles with some cucumber cuts and the last thing is very important in this food which is Red chilli oil with soy sauce. The noodles is about 1.5cm wide and very delicious ，that sauce stimulate your taste buds that gonna makes you love it
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is sweet and sour mandarin fish.It is a traditional food in my hometown--Suzhou,China.Sweet and sour mandarin fish is very hard to cook,like cutting and control the temperature of the pot.How does it taste like?You can know by the name,it is sweet and sour.It tastes really good.Of you try that you will love this dish.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is grilled catfish. It a very common food in the Chinese barbecue. Because catfish's meat is delicate and chewiness that makes it really tasty. And it's a large fish, most of the catfishs they sell are enough for 2 people to eat. We usually put some spicy sauce on it!!! You will love it!

ReplyDeleteThe best for me, the food, it's potato. I am kind of crazy with potatoes, because it's actually my favorite thing to eat. In New England here, the potatoes are good ( not that good like in England, ha ha :D), and I like the mashed potato that served in our school, also in KFCs.
ReplyDeleteI think it will be mangosteen.Seriously - you can't really get them in the US unless you like shopping at Asian groceries ( so expensive) and they're not as good as in Asia. But they are awesome. Juicy white flesh, looks sort of like a tiny white, seedless satsuma but with a delicate, perfume flavor.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite food is big plate chicken, it is a special food in my eara, and big plate chicken is very popular in my ears, and we always put the noodles which are more wider than normal noodles, potatoes and green pepper, it is delicious, I love it.

ReplyDeleteMy most favorite food would be one the of most popular specialty of Vietnam, which is Pho. is a Vietnamese noodle soup consisting of broth, rice noodles called bánh phở, a few herbs, and meat, primarily made with either beef or chicken. Pho is a popular street food in Vietnam and the specialty of a number of restaurant chains around the world. This is my favorite food because it represents the Vietnamese's food culture and I'm so proud of it.
I think talking about fruit it’s my favorite topic, because I’m from southern china, my hometown have been called by people “fruit kingdom”, why? Because you hometown is located at rain forest, also it is very historic rain forest there have a lot of wearied fruit and animals. Anyway, my favorite fruit is called “jack fruit” and my favorite food is everything my parents are make it, but most favorite food is my dad cooking a food is called ”柠檬蛰鱼”， this food is created by my dad, I think only my dad can do it.
