Journal Question #10

Saturday, January 21st, a half million protesters came to Washington to support women's rights and protest the election of Donald Trump.  There were also protests in Boston, New York, Chicago, and over 600 other cities in the United States and internationally.  Lots or people, all over the world, are worried about the US president and came out to show how they feel in record numbers.  Here's the question: Do protests do any good?  Would you join a protest if you felt strongly about a particular issue (e.g., human rights, war, climate change)?  Why or why not?

On Saturday, Jaunary 21st, so many protesters went to Washington to protest the election of Donald Trump. Protest started a long ago when a lot of people are against certain thing like war. I personally think that protesting is a good thing to do. Protesting is an act of people being united and against something as a group. Normally the more people participate the protest, the worse the thing that people protest is. There will more and more people be aware of that specific that thing when people protest it and I believe that it's actually useful because people are strong when they are united. I wouldn't join a protest even tho I feel strongly about something. Because there's usually chaos when there's a protest going on.

  2. I saw lots of people join lots of protest all over the world. They join to the protest is because they felt strongly about a particular issue. And not all of the protest are good or help. For example, some people who against trump to be the president of America have some really bad protest. They went on the street together and fire the car. This is the kind of protest that what I won't do. But if a protest which is health and helpful, I will try to join. The people who makes the protest is not make a issue. It is just a way to slove the problem.

  3. In my opinion, protesting is nothing wrong, but it doesn't make any effects to the election; the only effect it does is blocking the streets and make chars and harm. I won't join in a protest, because even millions of people protest that Trump won the election, there's no evidence proves that Trump had some illegal means that helped him to win the election. Follow the law, Trump is still the president of the United States of America after Barack Obama even millions of people disagree with that. Right now I think the only thing we can do is just to accept that and find out the reason why he won the election under so many protestations.

  4. Many people protest the election of Donald Trump. In my option, I think people protest doesn't make any effect in the election. But I still think the protests is good. Even though it doesn't make any effect, but for the protesters, the did the protest can make them feel better. If I have feel strongly about a particular issue, I would join the protest, just want. myself to feel betterDifferent people can have many different opinions, we don't need to agree then but we have to be respectful with others opinions. Anyway, Donald Trump is the president of the United States now after president Obama. Although a half million people protest him, he still won the election and be the president of the United States. The only thing we can do is accept the reality and be respectful to out president Trump.

  5. In January 21,i was in Boston. I saw a lot of woman in the street. They were parade, and they want to support woman have same power. I think this activity id good because it can let govermeng know how did the public think. Public is the set up in one country, their suggestion are very important. And this activity can like government know. I think parade is good.

  6. Protests are not wrong, but I don't think this is a good behavior. It can't really solve problems like that way. The only way can do is write your advise and send them to government. And I won't join the protest because it is too crowded and sometimes is dangerous.

  7. Protest is a special way for citizens to express their thoughts to government and media.
In my opinion, protest does good. For example, if you disagree the new policy, you have chance to talk with the government workers through the protest. If it is possible, I will join the protest against Trump. What he did is so crazy. He does not allow some people to enter United States. It is the discrimination to other country and people. So everyone should join the protest if you think what government does is wrong.

  8. In my opinion, protest is the symbol of America. This event represents the original of USA where the people are the one who can decide things, not the government. It is also represented a united community that willing to against the government. Personally, I'm too lazy to go a protest so even if my will is strong, my body will resist.

  9. I think in some point, protest is right. It's a way that can make people say loud what they want say and what do they really need, and also let government know that. And look the rights that been allowed mostly are cause protests. Also if there's protest, it's must have something not good, like some people will destroys cars, building or make fire to get attention, that's will get policeman busy. If there's a right that can make people live better, and I will like to go to that protes, but I won't do something bad.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think the protests are right because that's a way that citizens give back their opinion to the government. Also government will know there are some issues by the protests. Besides, it means that citizens are not stupid. They has there own opinion to see these things which is really good. At least people won't just listen to a person or a small group of people. There should have some different voices. It will make the life better.

  11. In my opinion, protest is right but also wrong.Right is that citizens show there behaviors to government, they don't agree, and they think this choice is wrong they need to tell everybody.Wrong is that's not conducive to national unity, probably they will make a big mess! There is a great possibility to happen,it's danger. So there are advantages and disadvantages of the protest. If I'll join a protest if I felt strongly about a particular issue, like climate change.I want to say my suggestion and ideas,Climate change will affect our future life and environment,It's very important,so I will join them.

  12. I think it is right to hold the protest, but to a certain extent it is against the protest. Because the protest is to let the Government know the people's point of view. But the procession will disrupt public order and let the government think that we do not trust our own country

    ReplyDelete
  13. Protests are bad, if you don't like the new president... I'm sorry but doing this type of things ( going out and fill the streets) is not going to change the elections, now we have to support Donald Trump and do the best to the U.S, be united. If you protest you don't help. So no, I won't go to protest like this kind of protests. They aren't helpful for the country.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Protests are not a bad thing. This is only represent some people's strong view about something. Personally, I don't think there are absolutely good or bad about the protest. However this protest doesn't do any good yet. It doesn't change anything. If I feel strongly about a particular issue,I may join the protest. Many of the protest doesn't make sense. Anyway, it still show my own opinion

  15. This year, the protesters went to Washington D.C to protest Donal Trump’s election and came to support the women’s right. In my point of view, protesting is the way to reflect the ideas of people to government. Sometimes the government would care about things which people reflect, but sometimes it really depends on the government. People need to know how big authorities that the government has, and how the country government is. So I think the protest is not good for people. If the things have already established by the government, the protesting of people is useless. With comparative, the government in orders to achieve their purpose, the government may do some excessive actions, and some of the protesters my suffered by government, such as the leaders of the protesters. For me, I would not to participate in the protest. Since there really are some particular issues that I felt strongly enough to resist, I would concentrate some power that are some people have a place in this society and who are approve of my thoughts that would fight with me together, and to achieve my purpose.

  16. I think being a protester might be in some cases good. Now a days the government of each country controls almost everything. They put new rules or they change other ones, and we might not agree with it. As I said it's good to protest because you are sharing your opinion with the government, so you reveal, and you show them than you are not a puppet or a toy that can be controlled easily. I never went to a protest, but if I strongly didn't agree with a law, I will probably go.

There is nothing wrong with protesting. Sometimes, protests is a good thing. Many people join the protest of election of Donald Trump, which means protest might work. I would not join a protest if I felt strongly about particular issue. In my hometown, we don't have this kind of things, so I won't be participating. But if it really affects that way, I will join the protest. The governments also need to hear the thoughts from citizens occasionally.

    ReplyDelete
  18. People can protesting. Sometime this will be a good thing, but sometime it will be bad. When a lot people join protest, things will work. If there is a protest, I would not join it. Because when there is an protest, there will be a lot of people, when people become more, thief will steal things, and people may step on each other, so it's kind of dangerous, and also we don't have protest in China so we don't know how to protest too. But if there is something really need to be solved I will join the protest.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am agree with the protest.if just one people want to express their opinion to someone, maybe it will be powerless, but the protest likes an organization,it's more powerful than one people.we should have the rights to express our opinion. In China ,the protest isn't allowed.so I may not join the protest.but I agree protest, that is a powerful and useful way to let government hear people's voice

    ReplyDelete
  20. I wouldn't join a protest. For me personally I would rather know my opinion for my self and do not take part in the massive protests. It is always good to show your opinion but not always a good idea to express it even a protest. By protesting people make a simpathy but not everyone agrees with opinions that people are trying to show. I think I would rather keep my opinion for my self.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In my opinion, protests can do some good because the president may change his mind if there are enough people to protest. The president will make some decisions that people don't think it's good. That's why people will do protesting. Just like president Trump, he is going to build a wall between America and Mexico which is people don't agree. And I will join the protest because it's not a good idea. He says that in this way he can make America safer but it will make the relationship estranged. So the disadvantage is more than advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think that in some cases the protests is a kind of good ways to maintain their sovereign and express their ideas. The government should take more citizen' ideas rather than going his own way.If the protest will not cause damage to property and life threatening, maybe I will join the protest.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Protests is the way that people get the rights that they want. Sometimes it did something good, like fight for the human rights. But I don't think that's the best way.
What happened last month was a good example. Millions of the people go to Washington to against the laws that Trump made, but was that really worked? No. It's totally useless. Trump won't change the law anyway. He just like do whatever he want. That didn't work. And if the protesters were too much, and have some violent people in it, the protest will turn into a violent crime. Like what happened in Greece, that's a disaster.
But if we have a better way to get our rights, who will join the protests? From some kind of the factor, the protests is the only way that let citizens have their own rights. So if there was a terrible issue about something, and I felt strongly against it, maybe I will join the protest. But now I am not a United States citizen, and as a student, I shouldn't join the politics, so if I wanted to go, I still can't go. And by the way, I think the protests are illegal in my hometown.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think Pretst is always work. Cause those guy who you don't agree most of them has right. It will probably make you get not trouble. I never do protest to the famous people.I do it to my family all the time.I know American usually protest. It is good, everyone he's own thinking .

    ReplyDelete
  25. When Trump become the president, a lot of people feel not good, even hate him. At that day, I saw lots of people oppose that Trump become president when I saw the news. For my perspective, protest is the way that people they want. A lot of people oppose Trump, that is, Trump is a not good president. Trump have lots of issues in it, so individuals dislike him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think protests is a very good way help people to express their feeling about something and tell people what they want.i know in America have very long history about the protests, it helped a lot problem solved, like people protests for women's rights, black peoples rights. If I have something I fell very strongly I may will go to protests too. I think that may show people what you think.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Protest is definitely a good thing. It can tell the president how the citizens feel about the decision he made. So in my point of view I think the protest is a good thing and it's normal. But sometime it's dangerous. Citizens will may get hurt during the protest. But if there's a protest I agree with I will join it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. To my mind the protests do good until the protesters don't go too far. If I had strong emotions I'm sure I'd join a protest. I believe it will help if the more people join an important purpose the earlier they achieve it. But if people protest only for protest without important purpose I don't join .

    ReplyDelete
  29. I will participate in the protest because I think we have to defend their own truth, to adhere to our thinking, do not bow to the right. We want to protest unreasonable, and there is no human rights, there is no fair thing. We should dare to oppose and dare to contradict. To defend our own rights.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yah, I think protest may be a good thing. But if the protest are hig, it will be giving pressure to others. Little protest can makes president to think about his problems, too much will make him published the protest. I will join it, even sometimes it doesn't work. At least it can remind the president that he really didn't something wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Protests are not good that I just think. For example the climate change, it's because of prople don't mind environment. Many of our don't notice that it's impossible fast becoming a big problem for human. If we want to protect our home planet earth, we need to spend time to learn about climate and really work on it (I mean to solve the climate problem). But what some people do? Some people I mean protesters, who don't really think about Practical problems. The only thing they could like to do that is to protest at all places. They practically don't do anything thing good to combat with climate change, and they like to Accuse others; "that's their Dereliction of duty” is the only English sentence they know how to say. If you want to against something wrong, don't go to join parade and don't go to be a protester, you should do something really help to solve problems.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think the parade was useless. Because trump will not even care.
If there is a new president no one like than the people will not choose the person. A example--Trump. Why he be the president? Because someone choose him to be. But who? The people have no job. The people do not agree feminism. And the people do not agree trump go to protest march. But the people do not have job and do not agree feminism indeed more than the people do not agree trump.
So the people think if there is president can change the things to their choose that person is Trump.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think the protest is correct in some ways, but I will not take part in the protest, although it can show your opinion, but I do not think this is a good solution.I think we can use other methods to protest If, for a particular problem, such as climate change, I think I might join the protest because it 's about my life.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Is there any right or wrong in the protest? One thing to point out is that protests and riots are different. We can not distinguish good or bad protest, which are human rights. It's like separating whether it is good to breathe or bad. If the protest is directly or indirectly related to me, I am willing to participate.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think the protest is to show every opinions. Cause some interesting make people can't feel fair, or them life was change by this things. I think talk them your opinions is a good way. But someone don't think about is the just want to broke something or hurt people. I think protest should use right way

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think the United States is a democratic country, protests is very important for the government, it reflects people's real thoughts, listen to public opinion, human-centred if is me I will not take part in the protests, because a person's strength is too small, also do not want to be an independent individual.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I saw few protest in New York. I think that is correct sometimes but I will not be part of it. Because protest usually have a lot of people and have a lot of attention. That's dangerous, someone can use that to make some thing bad.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks, everyone, for your comments on protesting. You express mixed feelings about the value of protests - some of you see them as essential to democracy and worthwhile, while others see protests as either a waste of time or dangerous. Most of you get that free speech is a guaranteed right in this country, so protests will continue.

    ReplyDelete
  39. In my opinion,I think protest is improtant in some countries. The protest can show people something good. And in some countries, protest is use to celebrate something, like Brazil. But I can not take part in protest. But if sometimes people not use protest in the good way.It will be dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think there are some of the advantages of protest, protest and the government can make managers to understand some of the problems and shortcomings of them, and may let them be improved. But the protests will block traffic, noise, garbage. The police need to maintain order, it will cost a lot of money, and may allow criminals to insurrection. The result is a protest and are not used, maybe can not change what. So, I don't support the protest, I will not participate in the protest.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The protest show that the people disagree with the new president. They think that he won't have any beneficial things for their daily lives.Give an normal example. The Obama health care saves people the tremendous number of money .After Thump becomes an president, the Obama health care will have been abandoned. So people need to pay more money for the medicine absolutely.Who breaks the normal life.Surely the new president is! There is no doubt that the profit cause the protest and everyone wants a president who is good for them.If their hopes perish ,they will get mad to protest who destroys their hopes definitely.I think the essence of the protest is something unfair, also the protest can't change anything, just to remind the government to be done better.I sure I won't join in the protest ,which is very meaningless .If I join in that, the pressure of traffic and police will be heavy. Most importance,it will affect the life of local residents,it is just the opposite. So ridiculous event!

    ReplyDelete
  42. It can do good in some way. Honestly it doesn't do a lot specialty, it cant change governor's mind. When People are doing protesting, most common reason is that person doesn't like the govern's decision. They want send a message to government that they don't like it and give them pressure. Personally I don't like protesting, first most time it won't work, govern won't change their mind on the decision they just made. Second it is dangerous, when people are really mad at something, it would be dangerously to be near that person.

Recently there are some protesters came to Washington to support the women's right and protest the election of Donald Trump. I think protest do some good. People gather together and speak or show want their opinions. I think that gives the government some advice or at least let them see how do the people think about. If I could, I want to join the protest and try my best to solve the questions.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If I have an opinion about something or someone I would choose to join the protest because I think everyone has the right to say what they think

    ReplyDelete
  45. In my point of views. Protests really do nothing good for the practical problem and situation. Also I will never join a protest. First of all, protests will makes the traffic system in to a mess and produce violence incident. Which will seriously influence the normal life of people and cause invocatable death. Are protests make our life any better. Unfortunately from my opinions I have to say no. Protest can not change any thing which is already happened. If the environmental problem is imminent, do something which can reduce the pollution. If the government makes life unfair to you, fight it back or even make a revolution. Please really do something which is helpful and meaningful. It is not only you care about those problems. Do not take things emotionally! “The greatest talkers are always least doers”!
