- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
I was thinking about this question about one hour. In my opinion the good work is when you are happy a your job is fulfilling for you. No matter what you do, just be happy and stastified. This is very important thing for me. Do what you love and love what you do. Sometimes people are so focused on money that they forget how important is to be happy. So they just sitting in office and they're eternally angry and hasty because they're unhappy. But there can be person who love work in office and you can see that on his face and his job well done.
ReplyDeleteIn Czech I had work which I loved. I learned to dance kids, juniors and adults. It was very special for me. But last year I felt that this work is not for me. So I stopped and now I'm here on Thornton Academy and I'm trying new things and be ready for my goals and dream work. I'm totally ready for all experiences in my life and I hope I'm gonna be happy because life is a short trip.

ReplyDeleteNo matter how much money you are able to gain because if you do something what you love the money is the last priority for you it is kind of extra bonus.
In my opinion you are the lucky one if you have good job because most of the people haven't good a chance to choice or if they have while the time passes by they recognized that everything isn't so good how they imagined in the beginning.
I wish that I can have good work one day.I have an idea about doing something with tennis and journalism but I will see everything can change in a minute and I am not that type of person who likes planning my future about my future job so let's see what life will bring me.
I think a good work mean to finish your work as well as you can. For me, my work is a student now, so I have to study hard and get a good grade, and also to prepare the future's life. This is my good work meaning . If i have finish my study life and get a stable job, i think i will do some charitable work, because i think once you have your own wealth, you should feed back some to the community, you can use these money to help who in need, and give them a chance to change their life. And then, once i have enough money, i will build a university for the poor to study, because only to study can make you success, this is the most meaningful job i want to doo.
ReplyDeleteIn the past, "good work" was commonly definited to be the job that brought you and your whole family position and possession such as lawyer, doctor, architect, etc. In contrast, nowaday, parallely developed with human increasing requirement for living standard, "good work" is often mentioned to be more personal. No matter if it paid you high salary, brought your uncle's satisfaction but the passion you have for it, you proud of what you are working on and always have your mind to enhance it.
ReplyDeleteSo what does "good work" really mean to me? It might be my very first job as a volunteer teacher at a summer camp or a trainee designer at Boo-my dreamed company or just simple as I am right now, a student at Thornton Academy. Trying to steeped in this society, getting used with the measurements system, pushing myself to talk more than I usually do are the work that I am doing and fortunately, at this moment, I am enjoying every piece of it.
Finally, I do not know what would come in the future, what type of person would I turn to be but for now, the present, I will make my best to experience my life and hopefully find my "good work".
I was thinking about this question and I came to the conclusion that a good work is the definition of a job where you enjoy what you are doing and where you are also happy. I think that not everyone have the good luck of choosing their jobs so I think that if you have the opportunity for choose your job you don't have to think about how much money they are going to give you yo have to think in a job where you are comfortable and where you go happy every day.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'm going to be in the future I like marketing and publicity but at the moment I don't know at all , now I'm living this experience in Thornton Academy and I hopefully have a "good work " in my future.
In my opinion ,¨ good work¨ means that kind of work that you perform in a comfortable manner because you are keen on doing it . In such way , every effort done has its compensation.
ReplyDeleteAnyway , the definition of what a good job is can vary greatly from one person to another . What is a dream job for some ,maybe a nightmare for others.
Therefore , my point of view is that you need to be accurate when it comes to your needs , preferences and priorities , because it is important that you realize what it fits to your profile.
I also think that its a must that a job has to have a particular meaning to you , which involves doing something that is considered a good contribution to society and to mankind.This has a great importance.
For the time being i have done some little works such as babysitting , giving german and math classes to my brothers , or helping to paint my family house.
Its not a big deal but i earned some money thank to my own effort.
I hope that the real work that i will have someday due to my studies , meet my expectations and make me live happy.
For me, " good work " is a lifestyle that you work on something and be happy at the same time. " Good work " needs effort, desire, perseverance and patience. In my life, except being a student, basketball is my work, my lifestyle. Even I'm a basketball player, I love sports. So life without sports is not for me. Because I feel precious and peaceful when I am playing basketball. Basketball cause to forget my problems in my daily life. So it's like a therapy for me.
ReplyDeleteIn Turkey, they don't give enough importance to sports, you can't manage your student life with sports at the same time so that’s why I came here. I love my work for 9 years, being a basketball player, I want to continue to this. I will see that am I gonna be a player in future or not. But for now I'm in USA to improve myself and make some experiences.

ReplyDeleteI want to be a cameraman in the future because I love travel the world and take photos that records wonderful landscapes. Doing interesting job to get reward is my goal, which doesn't means I won't work hard for toil some jobs. I was a volunteer in the coffer house that takes care of people's pets. I had responsibility to help cats to take shower. It was difficult for me because cats don't want to get wet. I did my best to achieve this work. It was a voluble experience in my life.

ReplyDeleteThe mean of good work is I think it's enjoy the work. If the worker is enjoy and have happy because of that work, I think that is the good work. Many people think the job which can earn more money=good job. But it isn't. Maybe your job cannot make a lot of money. But if you like that job and if you enjoy that work, that is the good work for you. And also If some job pay a lot and everyone’s dream job, but worker don’t like this work, and this is not good work for that worker. For example, I want to be a air traffic controller, And this hard work Because I can’t sleep enough and very tired. But I like this job and I’m interest in this work, And also I want to be air traffic controller, And this is good work for me.

The Labor Day
Labor day is the first Monday of September in America, but it is in May first in China. However the idea of Labor day is the same. We have a day off and all the workers have a relaxing day.
Any job that is good for people is a good job for me. For example be a student is a good job. students spend tans of time on studying education to control technologies to make the family better and the world better in the future. As a student, there are many problems and pressures for me. However the most pressure for me is from my parents. My parents never satisfy from the grades I have right now. They always compare me with a better person to make me feel bad to not be arrogant. Then my parents make me to do my best under a huge pressure from them. They think it is the best way to make me improve myself. But as a teenager I can’t suffer such daily stresses patiently. I need a encourage from them instead of a reprimand.
I like Labor Day because it is a relaxing day. I don’t need to work or worry about anything and the only thing I have to do is resting.
ReplyDelete"Good job" is you enjoy you work, you love you job. Some job you think it's good or you think it's bad. There's no bad job in this world. Every job is important. There is no bad job, but I think the best job absolutely is doctor. I don't have to talk about too much with this job. I think every body knows what is their assignment.
My dream is be a chef. I want to use my heart to cook any of the food. I think my very fortunate time is small on consumer's face. Labor Day is for any workers because they did a great job in the past year. Any worker just like screw. Many of them become to a country, can't miss any one.
I think "Good work" mean you can enjoy this job and you feel happy.No absolute bad job in this world.That depends on yourself,you enjoy.That's a best job for you.And the student's "Good work" is enjoy studying and reading,get the new knowleage.If you are the baby's father,the good work is bring your baby go for travel and play game.Of coruse,both for happy.My dream is be a chef same to Allan,but my reason is I can get a nice skill.It means no metter where you are,you still alive good.And somebody say:"Nice taste!"You will feel happy and enjoy.Finally,I want to say:"Which work you do and feel happy,that's enough."
Delete"Good work" definition is different from everyone. In my opinion "good work" means doing enjoyable and comfortable jobs. My family always said that " you have to do your work with love". I totally agree this topic because if we do our work with love we probably enjoy it.

I think the " good work" means you have a good job and you do very well on this job. We should respect any worker and any job. Every job is good, every worker is good too. Labor Day is to celebrate the worker and rest day. Now, for me, my job is a student. I need to study and get knowledge from every classes. Getting a good grade and go to the good college and find a good job. Like Obama said" If you give up study, it not just like you give up yourself. You also give up the people, you even give up this country". I think being a student. It not just study for yourself. It also for your people and your country. Why, because if you study very well and find a good job to work. You can help to people to do something, it also means you help to the country.

In my view, the meaning of “good work” is that being a good student. Now, I am a student, so I should work hard and get good grades. In the future, I will find a meaningful job, so I should look for a target, and I try to reach it. The target can give me a direction with many passions and confidences. Now, I have a target, which I want to be a good businessman. I believe that I should make some plans, because I also need to learn much knowledge, good analytical skills and so on. Consequently, I should be hard working and do the best at school. There is an old saying “ Nothing is impossible”. In 20 years, maybe I will succeed to achieve my target. However I am not end my task. When I earn enough money, I will join in charity work and donate to some poor people who need some help. It is also very important job for me. Let everyone have a happiness family. I wish that everyone could find jobs, which you want to do, and be a “good work”.
Some people think a good work is that having the highest salary. On the other hand, some people believe a good work is what you want to do. In my opinions, a good work is doing what you interesting.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, doing a work what you like brings people sense of happiness. For me, I am a student right now, so a good work is being a good student. I have to do my homework everyday, also I need to work hard for every singe quiz, test or exam. In my opinions, although being a good student is a boring job, I still enjoy it. I learn knowledge from teachers, friends and books.
In conclusion, I am working as well because I am student. For students, a good work is paying attention to study.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion "good work" mean is you will finish seriously one thing and it's perfect that everyone will praise you and you liked ,gain knowledge and improve your ability ,but you must work hard ,for example ,basketball players ,maybe they need practice everyday or they need play the game everyday ,it's tired ,but they don't think so ,they just think how to win the game that i can contribute for team ,some players work hard ,maybe they become famous star for the player ,it's honor but the most important is good work
As a student like me ,i just need study which i can contribute for school ,this is honor ,i have to work hard ,i even don't know what happen in the future ,but i will struggling ,in the future if i have a good work ,i can contribute for society or company ,this is meaningful and it's also important ,i work hard ,maybe i can become a business that i can donate money for poor people ,which can enhance their standard ,it's contribute for society ,this is good work.
Good work is a work you like and is important for you. I think study is a important work. Sometimes I like study but sometimes I don't. Even I don't like study, I need to study because it is important. I hope I can have a good work in the future like I go to work in the morning and finish at afternoon. However, I don't want to work for someone else. I want to work for myself. I want to do some business in the future. Also, a good work should have enough pay so I can support the family. A good work will not be boring, I hope I can find a good work.
ReplyDeleteSecond opinion: i think the "good work" can mean to everyone, no matter you are a worker, white collar, teacher or student, you can own the word. Once you enjoy the thing you are doing, this is a goof work. I think i am dong a good work now because i enjoy to study in TA, and it's really enjoyable and exciting. As the topic said, i can learn many knowledge here, also learn the right way to be a successful person.
ReplyDeleteWhen i was a child, i thought that the most greatest job is scientist, and i want to be a scientist until when i was 9 years old. When i was nine, my uncle told me to be a scientist is a very hard and tired job, so i decided not to be a scientist. Now, what so you what to be when you grow up? My answer is i want to do what i should do at the moment. The world changes every moment, so i cannot tell you what i want to do. If someone ask me what i must do, i want to do volunteer work, i think community get you change to success, if you catch it, it’s time to feedback to the community.

Good work in my opinion is doing the best as I can do when I really want to do something. My second opinion of good work is doing work with good attitude. I also think good works that contribute to society like being a volunteer to do laundry or washing dishes are good examples. I volunteered to be a tree surgeon in my community when I was 11 years old. Although it was tiring, I was content to do that, because I did my best. I will never forget that time because that was obviously a good work! Anyway, I want to do some good works that let people feel happy or are good for people, like picking trash on the beach. Labor Day is a meaningful day because it reminds most people to do good works on that day, it makes people contribute to society.

Journal assignment.
For me the "good work" it something that I'm proud of. Something that i was working really hard. In my opinion "good work" can be in different ways. For example: make a school walk, volunteer, help other people. For me the hardest work was to come to US school, for that time I didn't know English. I was trying, I was working, and I made it. Now I can easily speak English. This is the work that I'm really proud of, because the English is an international language, so it is very important to know. The Labor Day is the celebration of the work!
Good work is about your motivation, your willing and how you work harder to earn a "good work". and there's no good work without achieving it, its just like the Marines at training, they mentioned a lot about motivating in a combat, and that is how it inspired me by volunteering to sacrifice for justice and rights. and 2nd point of my opinion is that good work also requires spirits, not only motivating or volunteering for something and its not about you have to do it or not. its all about will you do it or not and without this spirit we would not have any good jobs in the future.
ReplyDeleteI remembered I tried hard during my childhood while i was learning english, I chose not to give up because I know that I am going to an English school at Hong Kong. and what i will plan in the future is experiencing joining the Marine Corps and fight in combat to test my skills and my spirit of willingness.

Delete"Good job" for me it's a job that I want to do perfectly, and be the best of all who does the same. For example, I toke part in tourism, it's something like a rock climbing. Five years ago I started it. For first two years I didn't think that it for me a professional sport. During the third year I had competition that changed my attitude for it. I won really difficult competition then I understood that I could make more than I thought, I could be the best of all the girls. Next two years I started to win a lot of competition and I was always part of team without which they can't compete in the competitions. I thing for me it means to do the job good. Make me best so coach will always chooses me. Even fact that I don't what to work in sport area I really pleased for all that tourism teach me.

ReplyDeleteIn my mind, the good job is the manager of a hotel. It is my dream job as well. I am interested in the hotels with two reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all,I like staying at home, and I think the hotels just like home. You can do anything you want in your home, and you can do it in the hotel as well. The only difference is that you need to clear up a messy situation in your home, but in the hotel, you don't because the technical people can do it for you.
The second reason is that I don't like to work for the same thing back and force, it is too boring. Working in the hotel can satisfy me. In the hotel, you can many different kinds of people, and there is diverse work you need to do. Sometimes, you have to solve a lot of problems without any help. That's interesting.
In a word, I like the hotels and I hope to work for them.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, as a student, good work is good grades. In order to get good grades, the first thing what we should do is to finish your homework on time. Don't submit your homework late! The second thing is about attendance. Don't miss any class. If you miss one class, in the next class, you will feel so strange the next section. The third thing is taking notes in the class. It is good for you. Before the exam, you can use it for reviewing.
After I graduate from TA, I want to study medicine in the university. I hope some day I can be a doctor. I want to save people's life. I think the doctor is the most meaningful job in the world.
In my opinion, good work has different meaning for different people. Especially the person such as me what have a outstanding thinking. Lollow my life plan, a good work is a job or business which I wanna do. We are what we are. No one can instead my brain. I should have a choice to control my life. In my opinion, good work means doing great on job. You always get much money and fame if you doing great on your job. Whatever your job is. You doing well, they pay you money. But you are not doing great even you have a great job, they won't let work for them anymore. For example: every restaurant has chefs. But some restaurants don't have a lot of customers. Some restaurants have too many customers even need too wait for having meal. Then they get money. I actually want to be a chef too. Because I can cook delicious food to my parents, my girlfriend and me. I don't need to worry about what should I eat.

There are many kind of jobs in the world. In my mind, good work is a kind of work that you can get happiness form it. Even you cannot get really high salary. I do not care about salary, the most important thing for me is you can or cannot get happiness form your work. For example, if you get a really high salary job, but it is really tired, and you never feel happy when you are working. That money you get is nothing for you, I think the happiness is better than everything that you get form your job. I want to make a won company by myself in the future. I can put my ideas into my company and let it become a kind of company that I want to be. I want everyone to be happy on my company.

A good work is that one where you can do the thing you most like, is not only that, is also help the people, or makes them have a good time, for example me I want to be an actor, and why I think is a good work? Because is the thing that I most like in the world, and the people can have a good time with my performances, in this kind of works you meet a lot of people and that is something that in my opinion is something beautiful.
But the best job is that one that the life give you lessons, and you learn with the other people.
Good works to me is the works that I do it with my full capability. When I finish a work like that, I will feel so proud of myself. A good work to me, as a student, mostly is writing the homework. Homework is a basic school work that makes you familiar with the real daily work. We should be thankful to our teachers for giving us such opportunity to practice.
ReplyDeleteHowever the real jobs, your occupations are not so easy to deal with. To many parents, a good work mostly means great prospect; increasing payment and stable social class. Therefor you need to make yourself suit to the society requirement like college grade, gentle behavior and professional experience. For all of these, you have to sacrifice lots of fun even dreams or loves. Many times I question myself about my future occupation, but I still don't have any specific answer. Maybe I think too much, maybe I worry too much.
In my opinion as student good work is when you are proud of what you have done and when you think you have worked hard.

I think good work is when you love what you do and you can spend all of your live to do this job. I don't think that person can spend all of his time doing the job which he don't like. I don't really had a real work in my life but I 100% know that I will not have a job which I will not like.

also right in my eyes, but I have some different opinions.
My teacher teach me, in the right time, do the right things and
also do it well.For example, if everybody is doing some activities like
playing basketball,but you just stand in other side and doing
homework. It is not good job, because you do it in the wrong time.
Talk about do well, in my eyes, do well is means like never copy
someone’s. If meet some difficult exercise problems, mail to
teacher rather than give up. So it is good work.
Recently I am following a TV program named “Shi Er Dao Feng
Wei”. I watch the people find the original material of food to cook. I think
it really make sense because my mother cook everyday when I was young.
I really want to cook dinner for her, also my father. It’s really meaningful thing to me.
