Last night I was talking with friends about great works or art, and Michelangelo's David came up. We all agreed it is one of the most amazing pieces of art we have ever seen; if you are ever in Florence, Italy, you must see it. So, having talked about music, let's turn our attention to visual art. Is there a sculpture or painting or some other form of visual art that you love? Write about it. Where is it? Have you seen it in person? What about it draws you to it?

“Sunflowers” by Vincent Van Gogh
Vincent Van Gogh once said, "Paintings have a life of their own that derives from the painter's soul." Visual art plays a significant role in our life. It is painters' spiritual sustenance and contributes to discovering the beauty of life. I’m fond of appreciating visual art, especially the still life painting, "Sunflowers," by the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh.
The painting, “Sunflowers,” gives me the burning passion for life and the great yearning for nature. I first saw the masterpiece, “Sunflowers,” when I was enjoying the summer vacation with my grandfather at the age of seven. My grandfather was so passionate about the paintings by Vincent Van Gogh that he collected at least seventy imitations of Van Gogh's paintings. On a sunny afternoon, I discovered the imitation of the masterpiece, “Sunflowers,” by accident when playing in my grandfather's studio. The golden yellow petals of the sunflowers were so vivid that it seemed that they were the bright lights emitted by the sun. Additionally, the flaming flower core was like a hot fireball, burning the passion of life. As a seven-year-old child, I felt the exuberant vitality and was full of longing for nature. It was the masterpiece, “Sunflowers,” that aroused me to explore the divine nature.
What’s more, the painting, “Sunflowers,” by Van Gogh offers me a great deal of spiritual encouragement when encountering frustration. The color contrast of the sunflowers is simple. The warm color, yellow, is filled with the whole works. However, it is the warm color, yellow, that provides me with energy and motivation. For instance, last year it kept raining for over half a month when I was in my grandfather’s home for the winter break. I couldn’t help but feeling morose due to the rain, wetness and coldness. My attentive and wisdom grandfather found my unhappiness in time. He showed me the imitation of the masterpiece, “Sunflowers,” in his studio. “Look, there is a little bright sun in the studio!” My grandfather said humorously. Gazing at the blooming sunflowers in the painting quietly, I seemed to be able to touch the warm sunshine emitted from the masterpiece. The original gloomy feeling disappeared immediately. On the contrary, I felt so energetic and motivated that I even couldn’t help but humming a song about sunflowers.
In short, the still life painting, "Sunflowers," by the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh helps us discover the beauty of life and have a positive attitude toward life. Just image how great the world would be if only everyone puts emphasis on visual art.
I hope you get to see the actual "Sunflowers" someday. By the way, use the word "reproduction" instead of imitation when talking of a print or poster of a painting. TG

DeleteMy favorite artist is Pablo Picasso, he's painting just amazing. His painting already became very expensive when he still alive, not many of artist had that experience. Actually, couple years ago, I still couldn't understand picasso's painting. However, one time I when to see his exhibition, then I finally understand why his painting are so twist. His explanation for his style is: what I draw is not unreal, but the most real. Something like that. Then I felt like everything in his painting now make sense to me. He was a gifted artist.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite pieaces of visual art is the "StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm Opening Cinematic". It's a trailer for a computer game names Starcraft II. The game and trailer were made by Blizzard - a video game company. The animation in the cinematic is breathtaking. Every movement is so refined and they all syn together very well. The sound and voices are amazing. The trailer really point out the dark and mysterious aspect of the game.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of art doesn't belong to museum. They’re the monuments. Monuments were built to memorize great people or important events. For that，we mostly use the matchless craftsmanship to build them. They usually stand for the top architectural skill，sculptural skill even literature skill of that age，that country and that culture. The greatest historical monuments like the great wall，pyramids and Gothic churches，even prove the strength of their creator.
Monuments are the mixtures of all kinds of art，so I love them.
The best visual art masterpiece I have ever seen is Apple Logo, visualized by Steve Jobs. The logo gets along with the name of the company easily, "Apple". I don't know what the real meaning the logo is but "A for Apple", which means "Simple is Perfection (Knowledge)". I think Steve wanted to gather perfection and simplicity together. His company, Apple, is actually about those two things.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite artist is Roy Lichtenstein who is a modern art painter, who draws comics, graphic artist, sculpture and comic art. My favorite piece is red and yellow girl because in a way it gives me inspiration , it's kind of cool to make comics, I don't like usual comics, but I like this artist. Is not that I don't like common art like Van ghog, is that I like more new things are create new experiences, I don't have exactly a favorite piece of art.
ReplyDeleteI am not good at painting, but I admire people who is good at drawing. My favorite painting is Souvenir de Mortefontaine, and Jean Baptiste Camille Corot drew this art work. Actually, I don’t really know about this painter. At first glance to see it, I fell in love with its quiet and peaceful style. However, my favorite painter is Claude Monet. I love all of his art works, such as La Promenade ou La Femme à l’ombrelle and Les Nymphéas. His art works are always fresh and clean, and let me feel comfortable. I also love Vincent Willem van Gogh’s art works. He is a famous painter, and almost everyone know about him. But I still want to talk about his excellent paintings. I love Skrik so much, because I can feel author’s feeling in this painting. At the same time, I love Starry Night Over the Rhone and The Starry Night and Cypresses. I admire all these painters for their master pieces, they are just amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really good at making art. I don't really like visual art, but I like watching some cool and beautiful art,like photographs of people. I also like movies, especially old war movies. I also like old European style sculptures . If I want buy a house, I will chose Moden style. I think I like architecture.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if this is accounted or not which is Animation. My favorite one is called " One piece". Even tho there are lots of new animations came out, this one is still my favorite. I have been watching it for at least 6 years. The creator is a Japanese guy. I'm not sure if I could say I saw it in person or not since I have a lot of comic books of it but I never went to the cinema to watch its palgantong.

DeleteI’m not good at visual art, but I would like to learn about visual art history. One time I went to the art museum. I saw a nice art work. It looks like bowl, but it’s very clean. It was made very carefully, and pattern looks refined. I look for the name of the bowl. It name is “basin majiayao culture” the diameter of bowl is 11 inches. ReplyDeleteDuring 12 years of learning art, I like Claude Monet's works best. He is my favorite artist, I like his painting skills, and I've seen his works in many art museums. If people see a work, they will always recognise, that is from Claude Monet. Monet's works have their special feelings that you can not describe in words.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite artist is Antonio Gaudi i Cornet. He is a amazing architect. He designed a lot of great building during his life. Such as Parc Güell, Casa Batllo,and Sagrada Família. I really want to go to Spain and see his works, but I don't have chance. And also there are seven of Anthony Gaudi's works are included in the world heritage.

ReplyDeleteI think this is my favorite journal, because I am a art student. I love art very much, I like create things or drawing picture by my hand and thing it in my mind. I took visual art one in my first year. I am taking pottery and sculpture in this year. I have a great time in these classes. I made a house, coil pot, and animal project in my pottery class! I like art , but I don't like art history, and I don't know any famous artist's story. I just like to create things or find some famous art object on the website! I think I will go to an art college to learn more things about art!

Pablo Picasso, he has a painting it called "Guernica" He drew this painting during The Second World War. The painting is very hard to understand, even you need to go to google to know about this painting. You can know the meaning of this painting. I think I need spend sone time to
study art.
I am not good art, but I would like to learn it. Last year, I went to Natural History museum, and I saw animals, tree, crystals and so on. By the way, dinosaurs was so cool. I remember that shows in Night at the Museum, so I visit carefully. We also visit Metropolitan Museum of art. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the largest art museum in United States and one of the ten largest in the world. When I saw Venus Italica, I stayed. It was full with love and beauty of woman. It was amazing!
ReplyDeleteVisual art is my favorite artistic form and I have seen a lot of art work in person. However, few work can really excite my mind. In my opinion, the most amazing artist in the world is Vincent van Gogh. I love some of his work such us “Sunflowers” ， “Rooftops” and especially is “The Starry Night”. “The Starry Night” depicts the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room. I love its mobility and intact composition. And I finished a 1000 pieces puzzle of “The Starry Night”.
ReplyDeleteIt is time to talk about my favorite art work Monet's water lilies . Claude Monet is a French painter , he also is one of the founders of representative figure of impressionism . He started painting " Water lilies " when he was 74 years old , and he kept painting the huge art work for 12 years . Monet in “water lily ” tries his best to show the beauty of the water . He used water to show water lilies' beauty , and water lilies also add beauty in water . Actually, during the time he painted the " water lilies " , he has suffered from cataract, it means he can't see something very clear and recognize color . So you can see , the water lilies he painted are different, some pieces have different beauty . He painted " water lilies " until he died . So this art work have a lot of meaning for him.

My favorite painting is Bouquet of Sunflowers（1881）by Claude Monet. It is very famous in the world. My favorite sculpture is Sleeping Eros.

ReplyDeleteAmong the countless masterpieces from old times to now, my favorite painting is portrait of mademoiselle Irene by Pierre Auguste Renoir. It's an oil painting on canvas. I like it because the brushes of impressionism make an atmosphere of hazy moonlight which is perfect to portray the made with fair flaxen hair. And the most impressive part, in my opinion, is her eyes. They are so clear and beautiful just like a still lake in a forest.

ReplyDeleteCompared to modern art, I more like ancient art. For example, the art of Egypt is very interesting for me, and every time when I go to museum, I must to go to see the ancient Egypt part. The Egypt arts are not as exquisite as the arts right now, but their ideas are always very special and original. Maybe people can't even understand the things they created, but this is art, is it?

Art is one of the most important parts when we want to know the history go a country on history class. Like China, France or Roma, these countries have a long history, they have a same place — have special and unique style on their art. I am ever in France, Florence, Italy and other Europe countries. Of course I went to see the David camp, Sculpture is a plastic arts , physical materials and tools to make the three-dimensional space of the image visual arts . It is a example on European’s art history.
I have been to the Le Louvre Museum, one of the deepest impressions is one of the the greatest treasures. Venus,she incomplete beauty let me remember her. She is a famous ancient Greek statue . The statue was created in between 130-100 BC, the performance of the Greek myth of the goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite. Later in the old files have found Dumont Guville's memoir, which chronicles the ranks: Venus’ right arm holds her cloth, left arm bent her head, holding an apple, and her ears hangs earrings. But so far, no one can restore the statue.
Girls loves art because they have better imagination, boys usually like history of art better, we can share our knowledge and know more about art.

ReplyDeleteThis February vacation I went to the MoMA in NYC and I saw a work of art made by Frida Kahlo that was astonishing it was called "Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace".
ReplyDeleteFrida Kahlo is an important Mexican artist in the area of naïve art and one of the most significant persons in the Mexican folk culture.
This work of art sent a message of pain eventhough the colors where bright. I found that amazing because the connotation of it was very powerful and I sympathized with the meaning. The idea that it transmitted to me is when you try to seem that you are happy but actually you are sad.
I studied Frida Kahlo last year in my art class, and I learnt that Frida Kahlo had a terrible accident and she almost dies, she had to stay in a wheelchair for several months. Probably while she was working on it she was trying to seem happy although she was suffering.
Visual Arts are an excellent way to express your feelings in just one square, Frida Kahlo expressed her feelings in a way that I could not appreciate more.
Music can brings hearing enjoy to people.It in a specific way influence people's feelings.The spirit of the people of the world are given purification and rich.Make people's spiritual power to get extremely enhance.My favourite artist is Lang lang.He was several American authoritative media called "this era's most genius,the brightest star idols".He is employed in the topof the Berlin philharmonic and he is the five big symphony orchestra of the first Chinese pianist.The reason that I like him because of his music is very dynamicand has fresh life force.His music has abundantemotion, and is suitable for The Time.He said all of the music, all the songs are like a movie.I like this sentence very much.

DeleteFor art, I like painting more than sculpture. I don’t really understand sculpture. I did pottery but I think they are different. Sculpture need more feeling. Like pottery, it needs ideas. If I can sketch what shape I want to do, I can make it out. In my opinion, sculpture can show the maker’s inward. Maybe that is the maker’s feeling during he make this sculpture, or that is the artist want to say, it can be a social management system of that time. Those sculptures can show artists’ despair and resentment. They can't say that to anybody, so they use artwork to discharging. Do the artwork is a good tool for discharging overwhelming feelings. Many painter also use artwork to discharging their appointment. A painting that I like of that situation is Seurat’s La Grande Jatte. This painting is about war. It shows those Innocent people and the incapable of action Painter. It also shows the painter’s resignation and strong sadness. This painting use a lot of pure colors side by side that eyes dismiss the distance. When I see this painting, I can read more and more information from painter. My favoritest painting is “Starry Night” by Van Gogh. I love it! That is really really famous painting in the world. I don’t think there will be anybody doesn’t know it. Van Gogh is a genius. “Starry Night” is he looking out the window in the hospital and paint it. All stars have different symbolization. The movement in the sky is so pretty. It also shows his optimistic because for me when I have a bad mood during painting time, that paint will be very ugly, but his painting is so beautiful. Just like his say: “The side of the stars make me dream.” I like painting, I like to see paintings, I like try to read what those artist want to say.

ReplyDeleteVan Gogh（Veertien zonnebloemen in een vaas） is the person who paints the painting. As we all know, Van Gogh is a great painter. But also, he is a pitiful painter. Van Gogh's painting are all great. However, in his lifetime he did not get social recognition. His works contained in the profound sense of tragedy, his strong personality and unique in form, is far ahead of time. It is difficult to be accepted by people at that time. He uses environment to grasp the object, he returned to change the reality, in order to achieve reality. It led to the birth of expressionism. When people are misunderstanding of his deepest, is when he has the confidence to own creation. So it left a permanent artistic works.
"Sunflower" is one of his famous paintings, it is the painting which paople think that can represent him. “Sunflower”is a famous painting. In my opinion, the painting is famous not just because of the author, but because of it expresses his understanding of his life. The painting is now in The National Gallery. We can see Van Gogh's personality by the painting. The painting tells me that life is not to be calm but to be enthusiasm.

DeleteIn my opinion, there is one of the most famous Chinese artist who I like, and his name is Xu Beihong. he drew a lots of horses, and my favorite is . This painting drew a running horse, and it is famous because the horse is like real! I have no chance to see this fantastic painting because I never go to Chinese national painting museum which is in Beijing, but I plan to go to Beijing during this summer vacation and see my dream painting!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourtie artists is Misaki Kurehito.He is a japanese Illustrator of game and novel.The representative works of him are:"Finding The Future That We Have Lost"，“How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend”.The reason why I like his work so much is due to the personal style that he has.The characters are illustarted beautifully and impressed me a lot.The illustation in the novel also gives me a feeling which like being personally in the scene.Which is better than other novels.
ReplyDeleteI don't have dream to be a artist, so I don't really know about art. I like art, especially visual art. I have art class on TA, I really enjoy that class. I like painting. Sometimes I want to express something, but it is really hard to express by my mouth. I always use painting, and put my own ideas on the painting. I think it is a kind of easy way to express things. My favorite artist is Van Gogh, I think he is one of most talented artist in the world. And my favorite painting is The Starry Night by Van Gogh. which is really amazing. Actually I am not good at art, but nobody can stop me to love painting.
ReplyDeleteI just like some chinese traditional art. For example, chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and so on.... I think the moral courage is the most important thing what artists offer to their opus. Porcelain is another my favorite Chinese Art. It's really unbelievable and perfect. I am not see a lot great authentic work of painting or calligraphy by Chinese master. But I still love these precious culture.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know about the art. However I like to see them. I was taking printmaking class last semester. I learned about many artists who did printmaking. It was fun to know them and their print. That was amazing. Still now, sometimes, I search about them and enjoy to see them.
ReplyDeleteVisual art is interesting but I don't like visual art. I'm not good at painting. I have been to some art museums. It feels very quiet. Some paintings are very difficult to understand. I like music more than art. I think art is very hard. When I was young, I learned to draw but I'm not good at it. Some people really like art and they can draw many interesting things. I don't know a lot about art.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan about visual arts. I don't even know what's the point of them. I went to a art museum in Boston and saw a lot of pints. Those art is just like dumping color and mixing it on a big paper. It's so easy but it's expensive. I am wondering why it's so expensive. I thought it for a long time and I got the answer. It's because of the artist's name. Or I don't think I really know what visual arts are. I can draw some things in the real life but if you really want me to draw that kind of thing. I'll dump color together and mix them on a paper. In my opinion artists always have different kind of thinking than others.
ReplyDeleteMy Visual art teacher told me everything you see in your eyes is visual art, and I do believe it, and I think the most great art work is Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, and I did see it in person, it seems smaller than I thought, The painting, thought to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Francesco del Giocondo, is in oil on a white Lombardy poplar panel, and is believed to have been painted between 1503 and 1506. Leonardo may have continued working on it as late as 1517. It was acquired by King Francis I of France and is now the property of the French Republic, on permanent display at the Louvre Museum in Paris since 1797.

artist’s feeling, but for the visitor it’s not only a kinds of feeling it’s a brand new world. If a essay can share
people’s idea, for me a art work can share a world, there are too many things you can feel in a good art
work. The “The Starry Night” from Vincent Van Gogh is my favourite art work. It attract me when the first

“The Starry Night” made by all kinds of lines, you can normally see a big tree a small village and a big
beautiful sky full of stars. But what I see in my mind is not only the tree the village or a beautiful sky. I see
a childhood when I look at the village. I can image I was a little kid that born in late 19th centuries. I still
played with my friends when the night was coming. The white color that climb on the top on mountains let
me feel the night isn’t cover all the lands. “It’s not that late” It let me remember my childhood, I always
played with my friends when the sky was turning to dark, but no one wanted to back home. We rather to
stay out side and had more fun time instead of went back to eat the dinner. The Church bring my mind back
to his world again. I was born in China but the church in China wasn’t popular, so I always connect church
and the westen empire together. “People that live in the big city may never know this small village exist.”
“But we knows we will never forget this small village’s name , and this beautiful sky” All the mountains
that around the village make people feel this village is faraway from the big city, people who live in there
may never went out the mountains. Nobody knows what is behind the mountains, It can be a big plain or It
can be a huge sea that cover by the mountains.
When I watch the sky part, I seems like see my future, it’s beautiful but also dangerous. The swirl make
the sky stars and cloud but also show the dangerous to people. A big swirl tear the sky but this big swirl
make the starry sky start moving, everything is changing like our live. We live in a world that is changing
all the time, full of dangerous mystery and hope. My live like this sky, it change all the time. I will never
know what will happen in tomorrow, everyday is new to my.
“The Starry Night” bring me to a brand new world, but it always let me think about my life. They looks
similar but different.
I don't have talent on arts, I just know how to draw a straight line, that's it. But I know I a very famous person in the arts called Pablo Picasso. He was born in 1881, and dead in 1976. Although he already gone, people from all over the know totally know him. I leaned his opus when I was 10, I like on of these called matador, that's a really cool one. His opus are all like abstract painting, that's why he is famous in the world.
ReplyDeleteIf you ask me anything about art, I will just say I have no idea about that. But, if you ask me anything about painting, I just have one painting that I know. It is called Starry Night that painted by Van Gogh. It is just describe a starry of a night. It is the only painting that I know because I cannot understand any other painting or painter and I am not interested in it.
ReplyDeleteI like the art in the specific as the pyramids of Egypt, but my favorite is "Chichen Itza" is a Mayan pyramid that was built by the "Maya". "Chichen Itza" is one of the 7 wonders of the world, and is located in my city "Yucatan", is very interesting, since when is there is full moon reflects a snake down the steps, and many more things each year archaeologists travel from all over the world to investigate the pyramid.
ReplyDeleteArt is always a great thing to talk about,but I am not really a art guy.I used to spend time to investigate what is art but I find out I can not really enjoy it,I think art is so boring for me.There are a little of arts i can understand:music,anime and only a little of paints.For examples Vincent van Gogh‘s The Starry Night which is a very beautiful art work for me and the Japanese anime Naruto.I can't talk much about The Starry Night because I think its really complicate for me,but what I can tell is Naruto,this anime tells a story of Naruto Uzumaki, an adolescent ninja who constantly searches for recognition and dreams to become the Hokage, the ninja in his village who is acknowledged as the leader and the strongest of all.I love this anime it also shows people should never give up,try as hard as you can to make your dream come true.

ReplyDeleteI like the creation of Adam because it's on the ceiling and very big and it shows how everything was before we were born. Michelangelo is the one who drew it and it's drawn in a church and it's located in Sistine chapels. I have never seen it in person but I want to go see one when I make my own money. What's draws me about it is how you can see things from back then before we were born.
ReplyDeleteI do not like arts. I do not know how to draw things. But when the person who is good at painting. I would like to enjoy while he is drawing. It makes me relaxed if it is good enough. I think Picasso does well at it. I just do not have interest on it. That is why I only know Picasso.

DeleteI have been in Florence and I have visited Michelangelo's David, and I think I really like it, it was beautiful, and impressive how big it was when I saw for the first time.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite visual art is Mona Lisa by which is by Leonardo da Vinci. It has been acclaimed as" the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world." I still do not get a chance to see it in person, even when it flied all the way from France to China. It is in Louvre Museum right now. The reason why it is my favorite visual art is that it is famous as it's mysterious smile and it is by Leonardo da Vinci who is my favorite artist. Many people have tried to figure out Mona Lisa's smile for a long time but they failed. And that is the point draws me, I would like to see this most amazing visual art in the world in person and to feel her smile in person. I am going to visit Louvre Museum and enjoy the best arts in the world one day, especially Mona Lisa's mysterious smile.
ReplyDeleteI like arts. To bad I'm not talented to do them but I enjoy a lot just by looking at the master pieces. When I was twelve me and my family went to Paris. I visited Louvre museum. It was so beautiful with all those art pieces. Especially Mona Lisa most famous drawing all around the world. I loved it.

I have a lot of habits, however, art is never consider as my favorite. Despite of that, I have some interest in Leonardo Da Vinci- the greatest artist in the world with the Mona Lisa which have challenged people for centuries. At a glance, it's just a normal portrait of a woman. However, her smile looks really different. Base on other point of view, people can see a very different smile like a happy smile, a sad one or even anger. This make me very curious about that smile.
