In both ELL II and III, we have read stories this year that include time travel as a theme. So, like Einstein, I want to meet a time traveler (Einstein misspells the word!). A couple of questions: 1) Do you believe time travel will ever be possible? 2) If time travel were possible, when and where would you like to go? Why?

- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
I believe time travel will possible, and I believe the human already can use time travel, but they can't let everybody know that and use that because it's dangerous. If I can time travel, I want to go to 20 Apri 1996 when I born in the hospital. I want to take some money back because my parents was so poor at that time, and my born is big pressure for my parents.
ReplyDeleteI think time travel is possible, because Einstein said before: if you run faster than light, the time could go back, but I think you can't go to the pass and change the history ( thing already happened ) for instance, you went back to yesterday and you talk to your self that in yesterday, but you know there is no nobody talk to you on yesterday , so who did you talk with when you talk to your self? I think if we make time travel, we didn't travel in time, we just travel in space, to an other world an other universe, an other history.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that there is a possibility of people to travel through the time. All the time travelers I've heard are all from different books or different films.
ReplyDeleteEven traveling through the time is an amazing idea, I also thought about it when I was young. Regret is a kind of mental behaviour that most people don't like but they are doing everyday. Each time I'm regret my fault, I always want to travel through the time. I want to travel to the pass and correct the mistakes I've made before.
Sometimes I am also thinking about travel to the future. The world is changing so fast everyday, the technology is improving at every moment. I am super curious about traveling to the year that I may not live to and testimony the changes of the world, to tastimony the great difference that human have made after we were born.
Time travel is not what we can do, but we can always image of that on our mind.
What I think is that time travel never exists and never will. If it was real I would wanna travel to space and stay there for a couple of nights with my friends and then before we come back to the earth we go to all thethe continents in the world to just at least the best country in each continent and see the life there.

Time travel
In this day and age, the increase in the number of science fiction novels about time travel is accelerating, which deserves public attention. Whether time travel will ever be possible is a controversial issue in contemporary society. In my opinion, time travel does exist.
If I accidentally get a time travel machine, I would like to visit Indians in the Americas during Christopher Columbus’s arrival because of the unique landscape of the plains, the mysterious Navajo Codes and Indians’ beautiful emotions.
In the first place, I want to roam on the plains and enjoy the spectacular sight of the running buffaloes. It is said that in 1850, there were approximately 20 million buffaloes on the plains between Montana and Texas, for which the Plains tribes depended upon. The warriors of the Plains tribes rode after the running buffaloes and armed with bows and arrows to hunt and feed on the buffaloes. However, it took only 15 years for the buffaloes to almost be exterminated by sports and hide hunters. For instance, during the European settlement, there were less than 2,000 buffaloes on the plains due to the greed factors, including the belief that buffaloes were in limitless supply and they were the equivalent of a gold mine on four legs. If I can travel through time, I want to warn the Europeans that it’s quite necessary for them to stop the western beef industry as soon as possible and devote themselves to the protection of the beautiful environment of the plains with Indians. Only in this way can they have the sustainable development and build a beautiful homeland with Indians.
In the second place, I want to learn the Navajo Codes. The code that was created from the Navajo language stumped the Japanese in World War II. The written record of the language was scarce and the spoken language used tones that were difficult for an untrained ear to understand. What an amazing code it is! How I wish I could talk with one of the original Navajo Code Talkers, Chester Nez, about the alphabet using Navajo words! How I wish I could learn how to use the Navajo language to describe war objects to represent the military equipments! How I wish I could join the Navajo Code Talkers Association formed by Jean Whitehorse and devote myself to the defeat of the fascist aggressors and the safeguard of world peace!
Last but not least, I want to talk with Pocahontas and John Smith. From a Disney film called Pocahontas, the Native American woman, Pocahontas, fell in love with an Englishman, John Smith. When John Smith and the settlers conflicted with Pocahontas’s father, Powhatan, who was the king of an Indian tribe, it was Pocahontas that laid down her own upon John Smith’s head to save him from death. How big the power of love is! How precious and moving the emotions are! How I wish Pocahontas could tell me the romantic story personally!
In general, I firmly hold the view that a magical and bright future is awaiting us if we devote ourselves to the exploration of the plausibility of time travel in greater details with the advanced technology and a greater scientific understanding of the universe.
I don't think it will ever exist a time machine, and if it does you will be a different person at that time. I wouldn't choose neither of the options, by going to the past or going to the future. I like to live the present, enjoy it , have fun, from the past I could learn the bad things I did and then don't do them again, remember the the memoirs, and from the future I don't want to know anything because it is full of surprises, you never know. It's like a control remote: play the present, pause the memories, skip the bad things that happened and see what's coming next.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think time travel exists. There are some unknown events which give us some ideas about TIME TRAVEL that we haven't solved them yet. I study that, we would go through time as long as we went faster than the speed of life, which is impossible for human being. But if I had a chance to go through time, I would go back to the future and see myself in the future so that I can find my own mistake to fix as fast as I can.

ReplyDeleteI think time travel is impossible. But if it's possible, I really want to go back to around AD800 in ancient China. It's called Tang Dynasty. It's one of the most prosper dynasty in Chinese history. It has lots of beautiful poems. In that time, the air and water were still clean. So I am very looking forward to go there for a tour.
I believe time travel will come true in one day. If time travel really be possible, I hope I can come back the time before they got married. Actually, this Saturday is my parents' wedding day . I have heard their love story from my mom and my aunt. My father has chased my mom for six years. Their love story is very funny ! My mom told me , before they become boyfriend and girlfriend , my father fall in love with her first . One day , my father sent a watermelon as a gift to my mom. But at that time, my mom doesn't like my dad . So she returned a pumpkin back ! My mom told me , they work together to make their own business. They have success but also have failure. So I really want to come back to this time to watch their story by myself. At the end , my mommy and daddy happy wedding day !
ReplyDeleteI think the travel will ever be possible, because humans’ imagination is endless “everything is possible”. If the time travel exist, I think I will choose go back to the past.
ReplyDeleteI think I waste too much time when I was young. If I can back to the past, I will change my attitude to my parents. When I was young, I always argue with my parents. I can feel how hard they try to let me study in a good environment. I change school three times, every time that they make change the school, I would argue with them for a month. Now I know changing the school need amount of money, and they want me have a better grade when I was young that can help me to find a good job when I grow up. If I can back to the past, I would use a friendly attitude face to my parents and study hard.
If I can back to past, I want withdraw a lie that I said at 9 years old. One day after school, I went back home with my friend Boyu Chen. We met a women, she seems like fifty years old with many wrinkle on her face, but she has shiny hair like the star’s luster at night. she walked to us with a colorful windmill on her right hand. she asked us with a feeble voice “ can you guys buy this windmill for me? my granddaughter’s kindergarten teacher give her this windmill, and I want to sell it to buy some lollipops for her.” we glanced each other,we don’t want to waste money in this “stupid windmill”, why buy a toy that can not flash or run on the ground? Old women though she know what we are thinking, she continue to say “ winmill is not naive” and point a window with winmill,“ look at those university student’s dorm, they buy the windmill too(my first primary school was in a university).” I shrug my shoulder “how much is it?” “I am old, I can’t read it clearly. Can you help me?” then she pass the windmill to me
The price was write with a very small number-----$5.0, Cheng approach and watch the prize. Is it $0.5 or $5.0? she ask; “ Is $0.5” both of us watched the colorful windmill. “Here is your $0.5” she get the money with two shaking old hands, “Thank you so much”. After she got the money she faced to the sunset and left. We just stand there, after a while Boyu push my body “let’s go back home.” At the way we backed home guity grow bigger and bigger like a evil torment my body, finally I stopped my step, "We should tell her the true" I said. I started running back, I run like an arrow as fast as I can, but when I backed there she already leave. I shout, I cry. This lie is the last lie that I said in my life, it teach me “ tell a lie is like to pour a cup of water, this lie will stay in my heart until forever like water won’t go back to the cup” I stay there for an hour, but the old lady never come back again. If I can go back to the past, I want to go back and tell myself never tell a lie to somebody.
If I can go back to the past, I most important thing I want to do is to change my life live like a normal chinese student. My life had been change by the last time I change the primary school. If I can go back to the past I would tell myself study hard so that I would change to that school. I change to a new school when I was grade 5( there are grade 1 to grade 6 in China). That school was the best primary school in our city, students there were rich and talented. They know all kinds of musical Instruments, such as piano violin drums. They also had a strong body, they are the elite and the talent. For these reason I become more and more silence and low self-esteem, I lost all my confident and dignity. If I can go back to the past I would tell myself don’t waste the time and study hard, stay with my friends and have a happy life.
If time travel were possible, I would go back to tell myself “ Don’t waste the time and cherish the people around you.”
I think time travel will come true in the future. Because human is a amazing species, who have a really smart head. And we have already invent many inventions that help us every time. So I believe time travel will come true. In my mind, if time travel is possible, I don't want to go anywhere. Because things that have already happened, if people back to the past. They can change many things in the past, and I don't want it happen. It is history, people can't change it. And if people go to the future by time travel, I think it is nothing for them. Because future is a kind of thing that make people hopeful. If people have already know what happen in the future, they will feel nothing. It is meaningless for them.
ReplyDeleteWe will never know if time travel will be possible.In the past,people didn't know we will have guns, electric lights and planes today.Now we can't predict if we will be able to travel in time in the future.I hope we can,because people this world has no regret.If we creat a mechine can travel in time,we can travel to past and change the things we don't want it to happen.For example,the regrets I have my last gril.We were both in grade 9 that year,we were both at the age which just start to know love.I felt I was in love with her and I pursued her.After a long time chasing ,we were finally together .we walked home together,did homework together and dated a lot.That was a really precious and happy time for me.But when the time came to the second half of 9th grade ,there was less homework and we had plenty of time to do what we want .So I played basketball everyday after school and just left my girlfriend alone .When I realized I hurted her feeling,we couldn't go back just like nothing happened.We broke up.I felt repentant,I was so irresponsible about what I did.If there will be a time machine I must travel back in time to change it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe so. As the science and technology are very developed now, I believe that one day the scientists will produce the time travel machine. But if it's possible to have a travel machine in the future. I wish I can go back to the time that my mum was a child, I wish I can see how my mum grown up. The another reason that I want to go back to the time that my mum was a child is I want to see how great is the environment at that time, and how happiness my mum was when she was a child. The toy we have now is iPad and Xbox, the environment we have is big building and the dark air. For me, that's not actually happiness, if one day there is possible to go back to the time,I wish I never come back now.
ReplyDeleteI believe time travel will ever be possible.If time travel were possible,I would like to go back to the first class of Ell II.It's already March now,there are only three months left before this semester.We will go back to our countries in June,most of us will come back to TA next year.But we won't be in Ell II anymore.And I realize time goes really fast.Everyday seems normal,but I know it's not.Can be acquainted with all of you,is my fate.
ReplyDeleteStudying in America is a turning point in my life,and Ell classmates and Mr.Griffin show up in my new life.Ell II is different from Ell III,we see each other everyday,it like the way I study in China.All the students study in a stationary classroom,we have our own classroom and classmates.After graduating,we take photos together.After many years,we still remember each other.
Teresa told me Ell III is not lively.However,I feel Ell II is a happy class,I love Ell II,my teacher and my classmates.It's very sad to know we can only be together for another three months.I want to go back to the first class of Ell II in September in 2014.I remember about summer,all the beautiful times, the first school day at TA.When I enter in Ell classroom,I saw Mr.Griffin,everybody didn't talk a lot because we didn't know each other very well.Polad was talking with Alex.They seemed came from a same country.I saw Vivian and then went to sit next to her.I was very shy.Mr.Griffin played games to make us know each other.I couldn't hear some of them clearly or just because of my poor listening.I thought Polad was called Bolad at first.And I didn't get it until I got his Grammar book in class.I can't image what if Alex was still studying with us.I remember Alex asked Vivian how old was she and Alex was surprise when he found Vivian is older than himself.Jose didn't talk a lot.There are many regrets too.
I want to back to September,spend another summer with all of you.To meet Ell II,the so - called fate,and inventions like it,are derived from accidental. I go back to September all the time,I'd go back and change my mistakes but I can't.Most of you will be senior next year,José is going to leave......I can't hold!But anyway，If we are meant to meet again,we will meet again.

All the time travel I've heard are from different books or movies. I do not believe time travel is possible because I think time travel is contradictory to the science and natural. If time travel is possible, it is a complex question that how past effect now and how future effect now. But if it possible, I would like to go back to Ten minutes ago .Because I want to figure out the problem that If I have already knew I will travel back to 10 mins ago, what will I do next and does my reaction will effect the future or past ?
ReplyDeleteMaybe time travel will be possible, but I think it's unmeaning. Time is the main order of this world. Time cannot go back or feature. Every life should observe this order. There's no regret forever. If I can go back or feature, I think I will stay now. Reminiscence for back time and longing for feature are niceness. I cherish them.
ReplyDeleteActually, I don't believe a time travel will ever be possible. I think it can just happened in some fiction books or movies. If I have a chace to join a time travel, i would llike to go back to the past, because i want to join the time which i was 6 or 7 years old. I think it is the best time for me. I was a little child in that time, so i don't need to care about anything. For example, i don't need to care about my college or my grades. I can just enjoy my life, and I always smiled in that time.

I don't believe time travel will be possible. If time travel will be possible, I'll go to the future, twenty years after，because I want to see what am look like, and what am doing, at that time. Did I realized my dream and how is my children looks like. I think I also can find future technology and I can learn how to make future technology to save the people who will die to terminal illness. And I can see the iPhone 20 possibly, If time travel is possible, I'll go to the future and take the future technology back now, and change the current world
ReplyDeleteI believe the time travel, because everything is possible. We had very strong technology now. If I have chance to do the time travel, I want to back to the day I was born. I'd like to see how I make my dad nervers. How’s my parents feeling in that moment. I want looking before I am 5 years old those I can’t remember. Am I a quite girl or naughty kid. I want to try the food at that time. The air of that time is also clearer than now. If I live in that time, I may not get dust allergy. I won’t try go to the future. I think everyday is a surprise for me. I don’t want to know early.
ReplyDeleteI believe travel time is possible. Maybe I cannot do it now but in the future, it will be possible. If I can travel to past, I will go to my primary school. Primary school was very fun. I'm a high school student now, if I go to past, maybe I can become a genius in primary school. Childhood is the best time in my life. I don't need to work and study. My family is with me and I can have fun everyday. Also, my parents will look young. I think everyone will miss his childhood. I like my life now but I still want to go back. If time travel is possible, the world will be very different now.

When it was dark,the tired people went to bed early because there were no any modern inventions. Even if they saw light bulbs ,they would be very surprised. The children's life was also boring. I don't think time travel will be possible right now or even in the future. After all, no one has seen a time traveler in this world, but if it is possible, I want to go back to my childhood. After I get there, I will try to be the best friend with myself. If someone bullies me, I can protect myself. When I have hard time on my homework, I can help myself. When I want to buy some toys but my parents don’t but for me, I can buy for myself. Nobody knows me better than myself, so I believe I must be the best friend and the best teacher for myself.
ReplyDeleteI believe time travel will be possible in the future. If I can take the time travel machine I want to go to my home in 2015. I want to see my wife and my child. I want to know what my wife looks like, and my child is a boy or girl. I want to see my parents and my friends. I also want to know what I will do in the future. The most important is I want meet myself. I think I will talk with myself and ask what happen in this ten years. I want to tell my child to be a good child. I also want to tell my wife and my parents I love them very much. That's what I want to go to the future.

ReplyDeleteWhy I wan to go Tang Dynasty of China? First of all. I love history. Actually, when I was 14 years old, I wanted to be a historian. As we all know, Tang Dynasty is the most richest dynasty of China. The Silk Road began in the Han Dynasty the Chinese and the Western economic and cultural exchanges greatly enhanced and reached its peak in the Tang Dynasty. I want to see and experience the real history.
Next, I love ancient things of China. I think it is so pretty. I would like to see the ancient houses, bridges,clothes, furniture and the like.
If I believe time travel I would look both ways future and go back as a kid . I would go to futur because I wish I can see my futur life and my job . I wish too I can go back as a kid because everyday I'm thinking all my memories as a kid and I wish One day I can go back that would be great .

I have read a story this year that include time travel as a theme in class. I believe time travel will ever be possible in years later. I heard a scientist say if the velocity is faster than the velocity of the light, time will retrogress. If the time travel were possible, I would like to go Zhejiang, Jiangshan— my parents’ hometown, and the time is 1973, it is the year my parents birth. It is interesting to see my parents’ childhood. I can also see the theme that that always describe me, like they told they don’t have computer or other electronic products, they played games they made themselves. This is what I want to see, it is not a huge theme, but really interesting, isn’t it?

ReplyDeleteI believe time travel will ever be possible. If time travel were possible, I would like to go back to last summer. I like Beijing's summer even though the wether is extremely hot and incredibly dry. I was spending a month studying TPO in Beijing, I met a lot of friends in there and I also met one of my best friend there. I really enjoyed last summer and I would like to go back to that time.
For me, I don't want to do time travel. That's because I think only present is important. If I travel to future, I will get a lot of informations , I can see many thing and I will sock. After I travel, probably, I will get aftereffect. Sometimes it's better we don't know. If I travel to past, I am going to want to change the past. I mean if I can go back to before I finish the exam, I can change the result. But it bad thing. So I just want to stay here.

ReplyDeleteYou know I like animes, and I like themes of time machines or time traveler in animes. Steins gates is one of my favorite. If I can I wish I could travel to two part of times. First, I hope to go to my wedding in the future, and I can see who my future wife is. I never find a girlfriend, so I’m curious who she is and why she loves me!
Second, I would like to go back to early Middle ages in both Europe and China. Both Rome Empire and Han Dynasty were destroyed at that time, I hope that I can find reasons and what events real happened at that time. I don’t believe Rome empire was destroyed just because of Attila and Huns, and there must be other predominant reasons in it.
I don’t want to go back to early Middle ages as a real person because I may cause Temporal paradox in the past or future, so I hope I can watch these events happens as a god. God’s perspective can help me watch them clearly and integral.

Many of you are skeptical that we will ever be able to time travel, and some of you think it's probably not a good idea, anyway. Interesting comments.
ReplyDeleteI think time travel will be possible in the future. If I can do time traveling, I would like to go back at the time when I was six. When we were a little, the physical situation is actually not that much differen between different countrt. However, the American or African kids start doing sport way much early than the Asian kids. So if i can go back, I would like to make up the work that I didn't do when I was a little. Then, I will be way much unstoppable than now in the sport I like.

ReplyDeleteI think time travel will be possible but not while I'm alive. I think that is going to be possible because Albert Einstein said it and because the humanity will want to time travel. If I would be able to be a time traveller I would like to go to the future and see how my life has gone on, I would like to know if I'm going to get married, if I'm going to have children, if I'm going to success in life but the best reason of why I would like to go to the future is because I could be able to see the winner number of the lottery and being millonaire.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, time travel will be possible. I have heard that scientist find out if the speed of spaceship is quick enough, we can lose time and it means we can go back. If time travel were possible, I would like to go back to China during the winter break. One of my closest uncles was in a coma, and it came without a reason. After several hours’ rescue, he still failed to revive. I was in the airport when I heard this bad news, I cannot believe the truth. I cannot even see him one last time or comport his daughter because I had a flight after ten minutes. I cried again and again, this is the first time I realized that death could be so close. I known him since I was a little kid, he taught me a lot. His daughter is one of my best friends, she just turned to 18 years old. She will take the college entrance examination this year, and it can change her life. I could not imagine how could she get through this, and what the life will be after her father died. I am just hoping I can have a chance to go back at that time and remind him prepare some medicine. It might can save his life, and everyone will be happy.
ReplyDeleteI really like time travel this thought and lots of people were asking do I believe time travel and where I gonna go. But, if I really honest to myself, I'd say that I don't believe time travel is exist. Think about it. We pretend there is a person who can time travel and he goes to the past and say hi to himself. But he never spoke to older him when he is young. He doesn't know anything about it. So he become a person that doesn't exist, or he went to a place that is looking really like earth but it's not. If he travel to the future and meet older he. And he knows what his going to be in the future, then he doesn't have curious about his future anymore, so his not going to work hard as he use to be. People work because curious. Nobody is going to do a thing that he knows. And it change his future too. So I don't believe there is time travel or I don't think time travel is supposed to be exist because it can change other people's life easily.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that I can do time travel.But I believe that we can travel to another parallel universes.For example,if I can travel through the time in the current world.Say I want to save some one from been hitting by a car.Then the car accdient will not happen,and I will not able to tell stop the accdient because it doesn't happen!So there must be another world that isparalle with our world.If I can go to another world.I'll kill my grand parents to prove the theroy.
ReplyDeleteI do not think human beings can do time travel, the practical reason why we can not do time travel is the following: we do not know the true nature of time. We believe it elapses, we believe it is continuous and we believe goes only in one direction. But we don´t know what it is. The only two ways we know to manipulate it is by: accelarating something at a high velocity regarding a point of reference, or by accelerating an object towards an object in a big gravitational field.
ReplyDeleteThese are a few reasons why I think we can not do time travel. I could be wrong and if I had the chance of doing it I would travel to the 1920´s this years are called in my country ¨The golden years¨ during this years everything changed in terms of pop culture people started dressing with less overwhalming clothes which led to the clothing that we use nowadays, also ingeneering advanced a lot, cars were more modern and their design was very attractive and complex at the same time.
The same way that pop culture changed many latin folk icons became famous during this years, the painter Frida Kahlo became famous and Spanish bullfighers such as Antonio Ordonez became famous all over Europe.
In conclusion eventhough people say that if you reach a speed beyond the speed of light, the truth is that no one knows what could happen. It is just an utopia that scientists and dreamers have.
Time traveling is an old and popular topic in science fiction stories. Last year I read the book "Time Machine ". It is one of the most famous and oldest time traveling novel. This story is talking about traveling to the future. That makes me interest in future travel.
ReplyDeleteAs the technology is advancing，our life has been much better during last century. However，when the new century comes，we have a more terrible situation. Global warming，population growth，energy crisis…all of these things start loosing control. Even worse，we still have a nuclear arsenal that can make our civilization turn back to the stone age. A small conflict between world powers may course the end of human being. That kind of conflict can be made by global terrorism groups like ISIS. huge amount of problems wait us to solve.
That’s the main reason of why I want to travel to the future. I want to find out the solutions of these problem. If I successfully bring the methods back，I may build a better world.
Base on the most popular Einstein's theory: the theory of relativity state that time is relative not absolute. Therefore; in fact that we can travel in both past and future. However, in order to go back in time, travelers have to go faster than speed of light which is impossible in Einstein's theory. Despite that, recently scientists have discovered the worm holes in space, it like a shortcut that can help us go through a very long distance ( years of light) immediately. So theoretically we can travel back in time either the future. About me, I prefer to go to the future and past, also. That's mean I want to became a time traveler! think about it, if you can see historical events in the past and how the world change in the future and you can impact on the history, the future and the time! How great is it.

ReplyDeleteI would go to past because I'm curious if history books are telling the truth to us. The other reason is that I want to see my parents and grandparents when they were young.
I would go to the future because I want to see my country's economy after hundreds of years and My future too.
