- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
I will wear a mask for Halloween. It is not only a classic tradition,but also an interesting thing to join in on. I had a halloween party with my friends already and what i had wearing is a really scary monster's mask. I really scared some students in that party and we really had fun with it. I think the reason for humans wear masks is because the character they pretend is famous and significant in humans' normal life. Such as vampires and zombis,every time people pretend them,it will makes people think about the tradition and story about these character. So,lots of people dress for commemorate and i agree it is a good way to mark some significant story or tradition.
ReplyDeleteI like Halloween.Because my birthday is one day before Halloween. Today I was so happy. Many people said happy birthday to me. I hope they will be happy too. At 9pm, Mr. Morse came to the dorm to give me present and gave me two warm hugs.I like that feeling of beard.
ReplyDeleteI like dressing up myself and I hope to play with Mr. Morse. I think he is my grandpa. I don't know the history of Halloween very well. But I think this festival is full of fun. You can dress up anyone you want. So you can scare people or others. At Halloween party, I wore all green. But in China green hat is so bad. I enjoyed that party. I saw superman, iron man, bear etc. I was so curious who wore mask. I wondered who he is. I think happiness is most important. If Halloween doesn't have fun it will lose meanings. So just do you want. At last thank my friends at party!
I think maybe it is just a kind of tradition to dress up like someone else. To pretend like someone else is a really interesting thing to do.In that day, boss don't need to put on a serious look, he even can pretend like a fairy. That is a special way to relax.
ReplyDeleteI like Halloween, but I won't wear costumes. Although, sometimes I like pretending like I am someone else because that is fun. However, it takes too many times and too much steps to make up. Forgive me, I am a lazy girl.Halloween is really fun, and I think all I need to do is just look at other people's scary faces and laugh.

ReplyDeleteIt’s getting colder this few days, but I am feeling more and more excited because the Halloween is coming. In Halloween, people dress up as different characters, like, zombies, ghosts or the vampires. I heard lots of people would dress up for the Halloween, I think they do that for making them look more scary so that they can get more attention from others and more candies from the adults. I hold the opinion of that the only reason why people wear costumes and masks is they want to get more attention from the others, they will feel satisfy through that kind of showing off thing. That’s why sometimes you could and you would be naked when you are totally alone in your home or somewhere else. There are no others to be impressed. Anyway, I also think people dress like someone else and pretend they are him is because that a type of famous costume is like a mark of that famous people, and people love to be famous, they just want that fake feeling. I like Halloween, so I am going to wear a costume for the Halloween because I want to fit in here and feel the American culture. To wish everyone has Happy Halloween!

ReplyDeleteI like halloween, but I don't like dress up. In Spain also the people dress up but not like here.In USA they live Halloween treat a important day.In Spain they do the same that others days but dressed.I liked when I was young because I went doing trick or treat and collecting candy.
But the last years I went to a friends house to see a movie or do something.
Halloween is a tradition in America. My country also have a same festival. The day for ghosts. We are afraid of ghosts. So we dress like ghosts to be brave. People like dressing up because it is interesting. We can become the other people and animals. I like costumes and become others because it is fun. In the Halloween party, I dressed up like a King Kong. I liked my costumes. It was very hot and heavy but people all liked my King Kong. We only have one life and we cannot be different people in real life. So for Halloween day, we can be ghost

In America, Halloween is one of the most popular festivals. In Halloween, children would wear masks or dress up like a ghost to scare others or to go someone’s house to ask for candies. People in America are very interested in this festival. They would buy many candies and some clothes for the Halloween, also, there would have a lot of Halloween party. But in fact, I don’t have a plan to dress up or wear like another costumes, because I don’t have any this costumes cloth or masks. And also, I’m not really interested in this. So I won’t dress up in Halloween.
ReplyDeleteHalloween is a traditional day before All Saints' Day, but I don’t know more about it .I just know that people will dress up to wear costume and children will play trick or treat to get candies. I don’t very like the festival and I don’t have the costume and masks. So I do not pay attention to it.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first Halloween in America, so I felt so surprised about the culture of this festival. I saw all of the people wore masks or dressed special clothes up. I knew in this day, children wore like a ghost to scare us, and they asked some candies from someone’s house. Before the festival, I saw our dorm parents bought a lot of candies and prepared for this festival. And also, I joined this Halloween party, but I didn’t like this feeling. This party makes me feel so uncomfortable because I don’t like dark place. I don’t like wearing some clothes like ghost, so I think I am not interested in this special festival.

ReplyDeleteIn USA Halloween is a big festival. In my country there are some parties in the clubs about Halloween, but nobody cares. It's ok to dress up , but not for me. In my country we don't have holidays that includes to dress up.
ReplyDeletei thought that Halloween was a international party but some people here said to me that in their countries they don't have it , we have Halloween in Spain not like USA because here the people is crazy with the dress up and the make up but we have it but less crazy and funny. i thinks all the countries have a party in which you have to dress up cause all the humans have the same origin , the vampires ,beast and werewolves are common in all the cultures ,and i think all the countries have a party with that things cause everyone want be another person one night , dress up and look like someone else.

i like the Halloween
Halloween is not a big holiday in China, but in my middle school, we always have a big party in that day. It really interesting for us. We will dress up to some strange thing. Last time in the Halloween, I dress up a Ghost. This clothes made by my mom and my mom is very good at that. When I come to America, it let me know Halloween is a very important holiday, and all of the people spend a lot of time in Halloween.

Halloween is celebrating in America and some of the Europe countries. But in my country we do not celebrate it. So that one was my first Halloween. I didn't wear anything special because actually i wasn't excited for it. But it was enjoyable to watch other people dressing up or wearing something frightening. Also i like trick or treat game. If i was a child i guess i would do that. It should be fun. But not for my age.
ReplyDeleteAs a Chinese, I am not interested in Halloween because it's not a festival in China. It's kind of boring for me, so I don't think I will wear a costume or a mask for Halloween. I think that Americans wear costumes and masks during Halloween because they want to make this festival more interesting, and it's an important festival in the America. I don't like to dress up and pretend I am someone else because I don't like disguise, and I want to show my true self all the time.
ReplyDeleteHalloween is really popular in America. At the beginning of October, Americans are ready some stuffs for Halloween, like pumpkins and hay. Many local people start to dress up before Halloween. And some students even dress up like a monster on school day. During October, I can hear people talking about Halloween anywhere. They are so exciting. But in my hometown, we don't dress up like someone else. For instance, In our lunar new year festival, we always dress new clothes. This tradition represents we ringing out the old year and ringing in the new year. people also bless their relatives and friends. In our tradition, the beginning is the most important and difficult. Although, different traditions have different festivals and celebration, their objectives are bringing happiness and wishes to people.

ReplyDeleteIn Korea we have traditional mask which is called Tal but people don't wear these days. It had been most used in the Joseon Dynasty period the Korean formal name of country before Daehan empire. Joseon was class society so low class's people had so many dissatisfaction, but they could not express their dissatisfaction. Because of it they wore Tal to hide their face and performed plays critical of high class's people, even king was also included. No one in high class deterred it, they also enjoyed it together. It provided chance of expressing their dissatisfaction and fun to people
In America, Halloween is a very important holiday, you can see lots of people dressed very strange in that day, i saw a guy look like Jack the Ripper in Halloween, he really scare me. I think Halloween is very interesting, but i wont dress up, because it's really complex.

We don't have Halloween in China, in the eyes of the Chinese children, this is a western holiday, we can only from the film feel the holiday a pleasant atmosphere.

I won't dress up oneself will not play a role, because I don't like those Halloween role of terror. I hate are those with a blood mask, it let me feel very fear.
Wearing mask in the Halloween is a tradition habit. Most of us wear costumes and masks for funny. Someone dress up like ghost or cute baby with a pretty good musical party. People can scare each other and make friends in the party, so you wear scared mask and costume that have attention from others. So I think the best way to get friends is to make up fearfully. Several days ago we had a halloween party in the cafe. Many of us wore various costumes and mask. Always they give me a so abrupt surprise that I jump up and felt scared. And also we have kind of games so that you can get some prize from the competition. We danced and sang with crazy music in the party. I think it is not very funny without masks and costume. Most of American play a game in Halloween calling ‘trick or treat. Even though you do not even know the neighbors you can make the rounds and visit one house after another with your costume. If you do not have mask or costume, they may not give you candy or interesting toys. So i think that we should be in mask in halloween.

ReplyDeleteHowever, I am curious about Halloween because it is very interesting.At the end of every October, People will dress up strangely copying the ghosts and so on. What's more, it's a great fun for children because they are free to play a trick, yelling "trick or treat" to the adults to ask for candy.
I think it is important to try attending such a interesting festival. Thus I think I will dress like a vampire and wear the two fake sharp teeth. It is funny to do the things that are traditional in one's country and you are unknown about them.
This is Halloween, and it is really American-cultural. It is pretty boring that there is no Halloween in China, people seems to lack a sense of getting with a costume, we seems lack a sense of reveling in the festival. Pumpkins have already prepared for a couple of month, as seen that Halloween is such a big festival in America. I really love this atmosphere, and I can’t hold to join in. I think I will pretend as a vampire with half-face and half-mask, it is quite interesting to be a part of monsters, and I think it is much more gentle than zombie or Frankenstein. I’d love to spend some of the funny make-up time. The process of make-up is also an unforgettable moment.

I like Halloween , it is the one of popular festivals in America . This is the first time I have celebrated this festival in America , it's so funny . I think Halloween in America is more scary and interesting than in my country . In my country , everybody not really care about it , but with American , I think it's very important with them . With me , I'm not interested in dressing up to pretend to be someone or something else , I think go around and see my friends dress up it's more interesting and funny .

ReplyDeleteI think human wear mask and custom because they want to impress other people, those things usually can make us look different and better so if we wanna stand out, wearing mask and custom would be a pretty easy way to do that.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually dress up like someone else because I like just being myself, comfort is more important than attention to me.
I am not planning to dress up for the Halloween because I think I am too old for dressing up part, I strongly believe that I can enjoy it without dressing up.
Costumes are important in every culture. It can let other people know what's their culture, like stories, weather in their place to live. In halloween, I don't think i will dress up and wear mask. I want to be myself, not a fighter, or a ghost. But I think halloween is a good festival, it's a festival for everyone, people can relax and pretend who they admire or want to be. Children can get their candies in many scared houses. People forget their work, to enjoy their lives. I think that's why every united states people love their lives.
ReplyDeletei like to see people wearing the clothes to make themselves as a famous guy. but i don't like wearing the costumes by myself, because it cost a lot of time from me. i'd prefer to go to a party, and there is all of the people wearing the costumes, that looks awesome, and it makes me being excited. i like to see my friends wearing the costumes as a vampire, because it is so cool for me. i know there is a big party for halloween at girl's dorm in Thornton Academy, the party is so nice, and i can see the picture of the people who wearing costumes is really good. so i prefer i can joying the halloween party next year.

I think Halloween in America is very interesting than in Latvia , not lot people care about Halloween.I dont like dress up for halloween. I dont plan the wear mask, because in my contry we not doing this. But i think around here its more intresting and funny to look up the people how they are dress up.

I am not sure why people wear masks and costumes during Halloween besides to have fun and get treats from people, but what I heard is that the first few people that wore costumes were actually trying to scare the demons off by wearing these things. However, I wouldn't dressed up during Halloween as I am a Christian. Wearing costumes and pretending as demons are acts of learning from the demons and worshipping them according to the Bible. I appreciate the atmosphere of Halloween, and I respect all the people that join the masquerade. It's just a personal preference that I rather stay home eat all the candies by myself

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion people wear the mask or costumes is for keep the mystique. I would like to dress me to up to imitate my idol or somebody I hope become. I don't have a plan to wear a costume of mask to scare, because this my first year come to America, and I don't know enough about the Halloween, so I don't know how to dress me up. That is the reason that I don't wear the mask of costume for the Halloween
ReplyDeleteHalloween is an autumn holiday that Americans celebrate every year. It means "holy evening," and it comes every October 31, the evening before All Saints' Day. However, it is not really a church holiday, it is a holiday for children mainly. The children also put on strange masks and frightening costumes every Halloween. Some children paint their faces to look like monsters. Then they carry boxes or bags from house to house. Every time they come to a new house, they say,"Trick or treat! Money or eat!" The grown-ups put treat-money or candy in their bags.

DeleteI don't really like dressing up in Halloween because I just like the events when people are well-dressed and look beautiful. During Halloween, there are so many scary costumes that I'm scared of. I think people wear masks because maybe to them, it's interesting to have another faces on. In my opinion, I don't like dressing up as another person or wearing costumes because I love how I look and I love the way I am.

People in order not to let the ghost came back, they dress up want to scare away the ghost who want to back to earth.

But I like to dress up on Halloween, because I came to the United States is hope to learn more about American culture, to experience the local conditions and customs of the United States.
In China, Halloween is not popular like that. But it is very improtant for me. Because the same day as Hallowen is my birthday. In my optionin, I will not make up or dress up. I don't like that kind of style to celebrate. As I'm a chiniese, it's doen't matter for me. I'm not a person that like to celebrate for the holiday. I only care about chinese spring festvie. That is very imprtant for every chineses.

On Halloween, people dress up and they will have lots of fun with their family and they can make some new friends in these activity. First of all this is a very traditional holiday in American I can get a lot of things in this holiday, I can make a lot of friends in this holiday, also to lean some history about this interesting holiday this will help me to know more about the American. Second it will be very interesting, for example, I can to scare someone but it won’t take some fault to me, also I will try to protect my friends who want to scare me, Like my roommate lying on the floor with an knife on his hand, when I open my room’s door. Last but not least, I enjoy play with my games with my friends, and love lively day, everyone knows friends is the most important things in this world.

About Halloween, I think people celebrate it for scare ghosts away. People dressing costumes and wear mask and a party for it. They want to show they are not afraid of ghosts.
