- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
When some flowers have blossomed. It means summer is coming. It also means our school year is going to over. This is my first year in Thornton Academy. I enjoy living and studying here. I make a lot of Chinese and American friends. But there is a sad thing. Seniors are leaving next week, and I can't meet them in Thornton Academy any more. At last, I hope I can get good grades in every class. Therefore, I can go back China with good grades. That is gonna make my parents feel proud of me and happy for me.
ReplyDeleteHow exiting that our 2013's summer is finally coming! With the time goes in TA, all the things become memory that will never be forgotten in our lives. In summer, it is hot, however, it is fabulous to have iced coffee and ice-cream with friends. Casually notice that many seniors have been free and ready to start their new education, I bring up many feelings. We can't stop thinking and learning. To be open-minded is very important for broadening one's horizon. Remember next year will fall down more responsibility on all of us. Either Toefl or SAT can worry you a lot and disrupt your pace in game playing. Well, wish we all will have a full and satisfactory summer vacation!

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I want to say thanks to all my teachers for helping me the whole year. Now, I am starting summer with a good feeling. Summer is my favorite season because summer is amazing. There is no school and I can go everywhere, especially travel. One of the best things of summer is flowers. Irise is important flower of summer beauty. So, I will start my summer adventure with a good feeling. On summer I can go to Turkey. And I will try to study for my SAT exam on summer. I can spend my time with my friends and I can talk about Thornton Academy, people and EXCELLENT TEACHERS. :)
Summer is coming, and I have been here for half a year unwittingly. I feel the weather is be coming hot; I see the plants are wearing beautiful colors; I hear birds singing every morning... It is such a big change from winter. Everything is becoming wonderful, but I don't like summer so much, because I don't like sweating all the time.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any plan for this summer yet. However I am sure I will improve my English, and prepare for my TOEFL and SAT. I know that my junior year will be harder than now. The most enjoyable thing about summer vacation is I can do whatever I want in my spare time. I can hang out with friends, enjoy ice cream, and swim in the cool water pool. Anyway, summer is coming, and vacation will be soon.
the irises have recently blossomed means a lot. on the one hand, it is so sad that a lot of seniors will leave school, and a lot of final exam or project are coming. on the other hand, the summer is coming, the school year ends, and we can go back home to meet our friends and family. i have been studying a lot here from last beginning of year to now. i want to thank all the people, teachers, and friends for helping me this year. finally, i hope everybody has a good summer vacation!
ReplyDeleteFinally, summer arrived Maine. Maine's winter too long to forget, making summer burst out unexpectedly since the memory of the snow is still fresh. Seniors are graduated as the school year is ending, and some of my friends is going to leave. It is good to see that they are seeking for a brand new life in colleges, and I hope they can be well. Last thing, I am going back to China in two weeks with the fragrance of irises, and hopefully I can have a nice vacation.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited that 2013's summer holiday finally coming. I can go back home and enjoy the air conditioning : ).On the other hand, seniors will leave school soon, they may come back several months later and we are not familiar with most of them, but i really feel sad about that. Next year, we will also leave this beautiful school and start a new life, we should value this short period of time.
ReplyDeleteThis is a so hot summer, but finally the summer vacation is coming. I can go back home and enjoy Great food. But it is still a memorial summer. The seniors are graduating,we don't expect them to leave. I have a lot great memory together.And it tells us, it is time to go home since we have gone abroad for a year. They have started a new brand new life,so do we.I have been studying a lot here from last beginning of year to now.THerefore, i want to say thanks to everyone here who have given me a lot of help. Hopefully, i will have a great vacation in China!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about the summer! I have a lot of plans for it and can wait for them! The summer it self is very exciting and astonishing! flowers bloom, sun heats the earth, warm nights and a lot of free time. I will finally have a chance to go back home and see my family whom i miss the most. I will visit my home country and just the thought of it brings me joy!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for summer everyday and counting the school life left. I can't wait to see my parents, and my friends. This is the end of my first year at TA, which is also a first year I'm studying abroad. Actually, there is nothing special with me during school. I think that I have learnt a lot from TA: my english has improved, I become more independent, and I have studied a lot about life. I think I'm gonna miss TA during summer, not really too much, but I will miss TA.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that the summer is here, the weather is so nice and I enjoy that feel. But I really do not want to go home and end of the school, because I will have a busy summer. Yesterday, seniors in the dorm were left and I was so sad for cry because I will miss them so much. The upstairs of the dorm are almost empty. I really can not image what will going on when I leave TA. This is my third year in American high school and I can not believe I will be a senior. The time past too fast, but we can not stop it. I will miss all my friends in the summer and I am looking forward next year! Also I hope I can get a good grade in all my finals and have a happy ending of the school year.
ReplyDeleteI don't like summer! It's too hot for me. But on the other hand, I like it because the long vacation is coming. I can go home hang out with family and my friends. And I also feel sad because I can't believe this school year almost finish. I have been studying a lot here from last beginning of year to now. And thanks to everyone here. I guess I will have a busy summer. Next year I will be junior, so I need prepare for my TOEFL and SAT. And I will take the classes during this summer. However, I will enjoy this summer. And I wish every one will have a good time.
ReplyDeleteI like summer in Maine, I think it's kind of warm instead of hot. Although, in the past 3 days the weather was burning hot, it was a short time. I have heard about that hottest days here are less than a week. Actually, it feels like spring right now. School year is almost finished, and I have been in TA about one year, it's an impressive year in my life. TA provide many opportunities for me, and I have grown up in the past year. I'm leaving to China in two weeks, I'm excited, but I'm also worried about the weather in my hometown. It's much hotter than Maine. In any case, I will go home with my grades and experiences in America.
ReplyDeleteAs we all know, summer is coming. I am so excited for that because that means I will go back to China soon. I have a tons of plans to do during the summer. First, I am going to get my chinese drive license when I go back home. Then, I am going to travel to different places with my friends. I also will visit some seniors whose already left these days. And I will make some money during the summer time. What a great summer I can't wait to see.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the weather, but I do love the summer vacation. I want to go home and see my little brother. Although summer vacation is the best, but it also means that I cannot see Angela anymore. That makes my heart broken. I will miss her for being awesome and cool. Angela is the nicest girl I have ever met, and I know that she will always be the nicest girl I will ever meet. But I know that her heart does not belong to me, it belongs to someone who has a frankly name. Angela would not admit, but I know that she will be frank to herself one day. I give her the best wishes.
ReplyDeletei know it is kind of sad when the end of the year. most of student were leaving those days, and we have much more memorize that we chouldn't forget. i like summer because if i have summer vacation, it means i can meet my parents soon, i miss them so much. in china, summer is very hot, the weather makes us can not breath even, so i always stay at home. and do some housework for my mother. i can meet my friends which is my middle school classmate i've not seen 2 years. anyway, i like summer, it makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteThe year in TA is going to an end. As the summer vocation is coming, I am really excited to meet my friends in China. I do not like summer but neither do I hate it. The hot weather may be killing me but the obsession to the food at home makes me want to come back. The memory of this year is valuable. It is the first time I left home that far and take care of myself for such a long time. I will also keep in touch with the friends I met here. Summer is the time for relaxing. No school, no schedule and no more homework. I would still learn some english everyday.

ReplyDeleteThe year in Thornton Academy is going to an end, and I am very excited to go back to China, this year in TA, I learned a lot of new knowledge and met many interesting, friendly people.
Summer is the time for relaxing, no more homework, no more quiz and no more pressures. I would still read some English book everyday.
I will miss the ELL class and our lovely teacher Mr.Griffin.

The beginning of the summer means a lot for me, in some point is good because i get to see my family which is good 'cause i haven't seen them in a long time but it's also really sad, i'm not coming back next year so this week is the last i'm going to spend with my TA friends. I don't really know my plans for the summer yet but i'll for sure relax and don't do anything at all. i hope we all have the good summer we deserve
ReplyDeleteI love summer very much. Summer is hot but sometimes it’s rainy. This year is my first year come to America, all of thing for me is very special. When summer is coming it ‘s meaning this school will end. I prefer live to leave, but I need to go back China. I can’t wait to see my parents. I need study for TOEFL and SAT in summer, it is very impotent for me. I hope everyone have a great summer.
ReplyDeleteI think I love summer but hot.Summer is a good season and I can do my favorite sport swimming in this season,and too many kinds flowe will bloom in summer.Of cause when summer coming we will have a long vacation.In the vacation I will have too many classes.I need learn to SAT and TOEFL math.Beacause next year I will be junior.so I will speak English ever day.I hope Mr.Griffin and all teachers will have a beat vacation.
ReplyDeleteThe whole school has passed by. I've learned a lot during the school year. And I'm excited about what's going to happen in this summer even it will be a little bit hot. Actually it's the most beautiful season. We can see beautiful flowers, beautiful girls with few clothes. We can have ice creams and stay comfortably at home. And we can do some expectations for the next year. We relax and wait for the new exciting school year. But actually it's also a sad season. Seniors leave at this time, and we cannot do anything but just see them leaving. It's a kind of sad. And at some time we will be seniors and we will leave this perfect school in our heart. And next year I will study harder and make better grades.
ReplyDeleteAs the summer comes, the school year goes to the end. I can't tell how much I missed home. This is my first time that want go back to china so bad. I missed my family; I missed my friends; I missed chinese food and everything. My summer will be easy, I don't want do many things or go anywhere. Study will be the most important part of my summer, then have fun. I want play basketball with my friends, sing with my friends and watch movies, maybe. The only thing that I hate is the temperature, I know it will be hot, much hotter than Maine. That's it! I hope everyone has a wonderful vacation.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for the summer is coming. So many students have gone back home. Summer is the second most beautiful season in my mind. Summer has always symbolized the holidays since I got into elementary school. Summer means that I can do what I really want. I know that I have to do a lot of things this summer, such as TOEFL Test and SAT. Although I have to figure out these hard things, I am still eager for summer, because I miss my family so much. For us international students, summer is more like a season of going back home.
ReplyDeleteAs summer coming, I'm so exciting! Because that means the start of summer vacation. I can finally go back China! I have plan for this summer for a long time. I will go to Beijing ,Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Taizhou, Ningbo for my family, friends, traveling and study. I will have two months' class to study Toefl and SAT. Considering I'm going to be a senior it's very important for me. I will also put a lot of effort on art because I still want to go to Art school. It seems I will have a busy but interesting summer.

ReplyDeleteI am very excited! I have two days to go home! But it also means that I need to finish all exams before I leave, I hope I can get a good grade. I can't believe it is already a year—I feel really fast; I even remember the first day I came. I feel really tense when I first came to this school, because I know nothing about this new school. However, I met lot of good friends in a year and we have had a happy life together. A few days ago, I saw there were a lot of seniors leaving the school, and at that time, I though I would leave in two years. I really learned a lot in this year. Now I am packing, I can’t wait to go home! Finally, I hope everybody will have a great summer!

ReplyDeleteI hate the summer as the summer in Shanghai is awful. So many rain to wet me. And so much sunshine to make me dark. I am going to study the toefl and sat this summer. As I am a junior next year, I can’t give up studying and I need to work harder than this year. I want to do some volunteering as I know it’s good for entering the campus. Of course the most important thing for the summer is sleeping!!! Hope everybody has a good summer. See you guys next year!

Yes, I've seen that many colorful flowers are coming out. Such a diversity of colors that make me feel so happy and excited with the summer that is coming soon. I'm glad having much more comfortable temperature and being able to go outside wearing shorts and sandals. Summer is the best season of the year, because you can see so many people outside, you don't need to care about jackets and you can enjoy your time just having outdoor activities.
