Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,

This short poem by the American poet, Robert Frost, poses the question: how will the world end - through fire or ice? If fire is desire, and ice is hate, either one is capable of destroying the world. In the end, it doesn't really matter how the world ends, it only matters that the world ends. I thought of it because the weather is getting really cold, and January is the coldest month. In your opinion, which is the greater destroyer: fire/desire, or ice/hate? If that's too hard to think about, discuss which you prefer: extreme cold or extreme heat.
Desire, literally means the want to get something. I think the world would end before human accelerate it artificially. As we all know, fire and ice are the five basic elements. However, if one does not use them properly, they would cause disaster or even catastrophe. So we need to control our desire, sometimes it is a good thing to hate. Nature is limited and not for the human to waste and destruct. In Frost's poem, he is willing to tell us this. We need to learn to be sufficed before we all are perished. Admire fire and ice, cherish our lives!
ReplyDeleteI agree that desire can destroy the world. For instance, Hitler, he started the world war because of the desire to conquer the world. The desire of human will never end. When the desire expand to a unbearable place, it will explore and lead to a war or something else. The endless demand of natural source have cause the global warming. Although the end of world did not come, I believe if people do not stop destroying the environment, we will die in a more terrible way.

Desire can directly cause an argument,also it can cause a lot of controversies.Whereas,then the war will happen.Don't you think it is not enough to destroy the world?And desire is always the reason makes the people hate each other.Desire means want to get some things. Because there is unequal in this society,some people are rich but some are pool.Everyone wants to get better things,but because of this unequal,it will cause the crimes, hating each other.For some reasons,we can also call desire is the mother of hating.To sum up,we need to be sufficed,and this will stop us destroying the world.
ReplyDeleteI think this world is going to end in fire/desire. Wanting something so bad is enough to make this person to do whatever to get things he wanted. But, I personally prefer this world ends in ice/hate. Because I understand when a person tries to kill another when the person hates the other so bad. But fire is definitely a better destroyer, when a fire start, it's very hard to stop it.
ReplyDeleteI think desire will destroyed the world. Desire is one of the essence of human. When we were a little baby, we had desire. We tried to get what we want from our parents when we were little. Desire is the essence everyone has. If someday a lot of people's desire become every strong, wars will happens and the world will be easily destroyed.
ReplyDeleteI think it is ice/hate. everybody has desire, big or small, bad or good. i think desire is not all bad, it also has a good side. just like a people who want to be successful very much, it is a burning desire of him, it is positive. so i think that the ice/hate will be destroyed the world. Desire is the beginning of hate.Hate can destroy a person's thought, because of hate, there is no love between people. if everybody has hate, there will have so many wars, people fight every single day. it is terrible for the world. it will let the world gone. so i think that the ice/hate will be destroyed the world.
ReplyDeleteDesire,I think is the greater destroyer in the world. According to some magazines, I found sometimes human desire can even destroy the world. People's desire are endless,that is the reason why it had a lot of wars from the world started to up now.It"s including animal's evolution and people's interest.It is all depends on their desire.The desire push them to do everything.Of course,it might be a huge war in the future,the advanced science technology,just like the Nuclear explosive can destroy the world!That is all people's desire caused.
ReplyDeleteI think desire can destroy the world, desire is the origin of every bad things, thieves steal money because they want to be rich, kings start the war because they want to own more land, people hate each other because other people have somethings that they want but don't have. Desire is endless, if somebody get lost in the desire , the darkness in his heart will explore to unlimited and may do a lot of terrible things.

Everyone has the desire but most people can't find the way to make this desire come true.I think the desire can destroy the world but desire is not a bad thing.People do not understand the desire, the people can never be free from the shackles and fear. If you destroy your desires, you may destroy your life. If you twist it, suppress it, you destroy the possibility of extraordinary beauty.Desire is all forward momentum, it is also the beginning of destruction.

But the source of the ice is heat, which is desire, different people has different desire, someone wants love, someone wants power, someone wants belongings. But there are so many people have the thing that the others want, that creates the hate, and the hate will de destroy the world in people's desire. So it may be both for somehow. But the real ice can frezen the hearts of the human, and never touch basic again. When the hearts turens cold, the warm and love will never come again.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think desire is able to destroy the world. Sometimes, desire is a good thing, but in other case, desire is a very bad thing. You should learn how to control your desire. Don't let your desire becomes hate. For instance, when you want to improve your English or something, that's a good wish. Nevertheless, why is war will happen in this world? Because someone wants to own this world, he must defeat his competitor, he can own the world eventually. That't why desire can destroy the world.
ReplyDeleteThe human desire is insatiable, it's a people's weakness. Most of people can't control it. So I think desire is able to destroy the world. There are too many tempting things in this world, they may be beautiful or valuable, a lot of people lose themselves because of their desire, they don't know what the content is.I remember the second world war broke out, and land is a important reason for this war. Each country wants to get more land and treasures. Their desire killed 50 million to 70 million people. Through the data we can see the damage of the desire.
ReplyDeletesocrates asks his students to choose a wheat in a field, everyone believes that there will be bigger wheat in front. However, when they walk out the field they haven't found their "bigger wheat". Their desire tells them that they should get a bigger wheat, so they get nothing. Rely on these reason I think desire will destroy a person, it can also destroy the world.
I think hate is worse than desire, because I think hate is related with jealousy, which is one think that I guess is really bad for every single person. Sometimes people just hate without an acceptable purpose because they get satisfied just by the feeling of hate. With ice, people don't express very well their feeling and emotions, so become more difficult for people to understand and help each other.
ReplyDeleteAlso, with ice people get more calculate, and with hate they just want to cause damage in other people. Therefore, if a person has a goal of cause damage and calculates it, I think it becomes a dangerous mixture.
I prefer fire/desire to ice/hate. People have the desire for everything, they never get satisfied. As the time increasing, people will kill most animals, pollute the entire earth, and destroy everything. They want more land, more money and more food. So they cause war to fight for things they want, and thousand millions people will die. Finally people will lose place to live, lose food to eat, lose everything to survive. I think people will damage ourselves because of the fire/desire.

If we are not at war than we are in a possibly more dangerous state of being, discrimination. but if war doesn't happen, we will destroy ourselves slowly by a more subtle means. i think that every people has desire, and the desire is unlimited at all, sometimes people even can not control it, and they can do something that they did not dare to do before. even like robbery, rape, killing or something is guilty. so the desire is greater destroyer to destroy this world quickly.

Creature is destroy by fire/desire is better than ice/hate. on the one hand, to be desired is a positive way to live. you always want to get better thing than before. to be better you ought to work harder and harder. on the other hand, ice/hate give people a kind of feeling like indifferent,which makes people uncomfortable.

Everyone is always eager for different things; these things can be money, reputation, and wellbeing, and etc. So I think ice or hate is the greater destroyer. If our world becomes cooler and cooler, no one can stand and no one can survive. In the other words, all of us cannot survive in this world if our world is filled with hate or ice. So the world will end through ice.
ReplyDeleteI think that the best way destroying the world is ice. Destroying is a kind of pain. unaffordable pain. So I cannot stand that much pain puts on my body. I prefer keeping my whole body even I'm dead. I think freezing can make kills silently and maybe less pain than fire. Burning can be more painful if you are not dead completely(if you still have mind). That makes me feel awful.

ReplyDeleteIf the world are going to end with fire it will be greater end. People won't have food at all and soon all people will end their life. I don't like the fire ,i like more ice,i like when it is cold and not so warm.
If the world going to end with ice than some people can survive with a fire. So the more greater destroyer it is the fire.
It is really hard to think about fire and ice because we don't know what is going to happened.

I think the world will end in desire. I don't think desire is a bad thing. In fact, desire is a instinct. All the human have desire, just different. If you can't control it, that will be a trouble. For example, every one wants to be a rich man, that's the desire. There are many ways to earn money. Such as being a business man, being a banker. But a few people can't do that. They want to fulfill their desire, so they will use another bad way. Such as

The world will end in ice, that is what i think. Hate in here is how people treat to the world. people right now care most about themselves instead of world where everybody is living. They said they are trying to improve the world, but how many of them are really improving, developing it. the answer is not to many. Human are trying to help the world, but that is not their desire. in the deep side of their mind, they want to help the world in the way which doesn't affect to their benefit or bring them lots of advantages. i know that the amount of people who really care about this world is not too small, but it doesn't enough to save the world these day. so the earth may be die in the ice of human.

Also, desire is the reason of the wars. When the desire of human is increasing, they want their territory increasing too. And get more power and more right. Therefore, the war began. And the world damaged. During the World War II, the death of the world population more than 50 million people. According to statistics, belligerent country's supplies total loss of $ 40 billion. ReplyDeletei totally agree that desire can destroy the world, because everyone wish to get something new , but also this is really difficult to discuss so if i have to choose how to die i will prefer extreme cold, i don't rally know the reason of why i prefer ice than fire but it may be because fire hurtsmore than the ice and also because the fire is more difficult to stop.

I guess probably I would like to die in the extreme heat. If I die in a extreme cold, probably that will last a long period. If the world end in the extreme heat, probably it will be shorter. I think when people knew they have to die, they will only hope the pain could be shorter. And I think deeply, if the heat means desire and the cold means hate, I think hate is worse. I don't want anyone hate me. I think if one day I die because either desire or hate, probably I will die because of desire. Desire is something bad cause by ourselves. I truly think one day the world will destroy because of desire. People try their best to get benefits as much as they can, this is not good. But anyway, I hope the world won't destroy by people's ignorant.
ReplyDeleteFire or ice, two choices of how will the world end. If the world eventually will be destroyed by appalling disasters, then how matter which way we are going to die? Right here i have to make to choice between two destroyer. If so, fire is my preference. Let's back to the poem. Hate and desire are weakness of the humanity. Nowadays, we always busy on our needs, power, money and, sex. People won't feel satisfied for what they are and never stop working and fighting for their future. We haven't noticed what we have right now. I believe that the world finally will end of our desire.

ReplyDeleteDesire is the source of destruction. Because hate, is also origin in desire. If someone's desire be deprived, he generates hate. Especially under extreme circumstance，can desire cause a large amount of extreme result. For example, the motive for the crime comes from not satisfied, so people demand corruption and looting. If human beings do not know how to control their appetence , the world will end in desire.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think the world will destroyed by desire. Why? Because not everyone has hate, but all the people must have desire. I think hate belongs to desire, people hate somebody, want to beat that people. That also is one of the desires. The good desires can make people try to improve themselves, like students want to have a good grade, works want to work hard that can earn more money... These desires all will let people become better. But some bad desires will make people worse. It will let people to do many bad things for money and reputation. But their last ending will let them regret forever. So I think the desire can destroy the world, and it also can save the world. If all the human have good desires, then the world will be more beautiful.

People want more money and they can sale their soul to reach their goals which might hurt people around. The number of these kind of people is growing. There is another type of people. Those people don't care about nature especially trees. We can't live without trees. They care about money and destroy our nature. Someday our resources are going to finish. Desires of those people are growing every day.
Of course, there's always the possibility that the world will end through accident - a huge meteor, for instance, may slam into the earth, making it inhabitable. It may not matter what we humans do, though it's probably best to act as if we control our fate, so we care for one another and our home, i.e., Earth.

For my opinion no one can not know how it will end. Because, there snow and ice in the sky. One day, one of them will win, one of them will lose. But in both situation, our earth will lose. I don't want to see this day in the both situation.
I think the fire/desire can destroy the world. I think it is both good and terrible for people to have desire. Because the desire can not only make people become more motivated, but also let a person become evil. Some people will hurt others because they want to get some things and by hook or by crook. Some people will get something they want unscrupulously regardless hurting other people. Similarly the fire is terrible. Frist is fire/desire,everybody have desire, whatever is small or big, one person's desire is not a big deal,but the more the bigger.People is not only want to live with require staff,they want more money,more food,more clothes,etc.The world get more killing,more buildings,more complain.A person wants have better life than another one.More and more people complain about life is unfair, their desire becomes ice/hate.That's the terrible part, desire make people turn to evil.The hate is deeper the more good things they want to get.Therefor, fire and ice destroy the world.

The benefits between human profits is important to each other and people gets hates from that, it may destroy the world. If a person wants to get something, but they can't, and the other people get it easily, that is desire, people desire because they can not get, so they hate. Actually the cold is from heat, that means desire produce hate. On the other hand, the hate will make people lose intelligent, and they will do nothing without hate, so the world will be destroy. Then they create cars, buildings, factories to kill humans. At last, they kill the world by anyway in chemistry. These are all because of the desire and they go down. The world goes lean and bad. It can't be worse any more then the world dies.
