- I have been a language teacher (ESL/ELL, French) for 30 years. I have taught in public and private schools, immersion programs, refugee programs, adult/continuing education, elementary, middle, and high school as well as university. Currently I teach ELL at a high school somewhere in New England.
I never saw sincere peace when two different culturel live together. For example in my country there are two cultures: Russian and Kazakh. Two different religions and churches: Muslim and Christian. Kazahstan mostly belongs to Kazakh culture (Muslim religion), Russians started migrating there during second CW when Stalin was ruling Soviet Union. So far i can't tell that Kazakhs HATE Russians, or disrespect them, but i can't see SENCRE peace between them.
ReplyDeleteMany different factors which lead to different cultures now build the human beings' world. Language, living style, religion or any others contribute to it. No matter how diverse it is, the basic belief we will never change. we need food and sleep if we want to survive. lt is by acts that now we live in a harmonious society. I can't image that people don't get together just because they have different color of skins. Peace is good, human need peace to develop. So, we must hold the thought that we can get along with each other and make the possibility of failure to 0.

DeleteWe know that we have 56 nations in our country-China. And the main nation is HAN. And some of the other nations may just have few people. But each nation has its own culture and customes. Every nation is important, and cannot lose it. We combine together to make a big and mighty country. We have some culture communication between HAN and the other nations. All the people in China knows at least two languages, language of their nation and the language of HAN. People who are HAN can also speak some English. We China are going to be more wonderful and more colorful. And we live together harmony and with pride.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I hold the view that people should be nice to each other from a different culture. However, realistically it is pretty impossible. The developed country who is lack in the nature resources have to attack these poor countries with large amount of oil. Although it is much peaceful now on the Earth, I think that the war will continue to go on. It is not about us, citizens, but about the government. They need to help their own country to be more prosperous. Individually, people can probably be nice and harmony to each other.
ReplyDeleteDifferent civilizations create different cultures, so that there must be many conflicts between different cultures. Language, living style, religions or some other stuff cause the conflicts. But people all over the world have one same belief that they hope peace, so if people want peace, they will not mind others skin colors or religions. So I believe that if people truly want peace, they can living together with different cultures.
ReplyDeleteDifferent culturel is what start wars. There's no way that two different civilizations can live together without having any fights, but this is what make us different and great. We learn form other culturel and onthers learn form us.
ReplyDeleteHuman itself is prone to self-destruction. Even if, people living in one country, there are still possibility to have a civil war, let alone if there are two civilizations go together. The reason why people living together in harmony is that they have common interests, which can lead to war when it disappeared. If we can find the overlap of interests with our enemy, then we can become friends.
ReplyDeleteUp to now,we have hundreds of cultures around the world.Therefore I think it is ok if the two different cultures merge.In my country,we only have one culture,but I think we need the novice that bring us a lot of different cultures.In my opinion,if a lot of cultures megre in a good way,you can get the benefits from that.it is called Its essence, to its dregs in China.
ReplyDeleteIn 19 century, European drove out the Jewish from their countries in that they had different religions. Nowadays, people still be torturing by the war in middle of east. because of different races. The war never stops within history of human. Why people would like to hate each other? Why we couldn't get along? Maybe some countries care about their own benefits. Maybe they don't want to be weak because they afried about other countries' stronger army. However, the entire world is a interdependent world. We trade with each other. We can't even survive without connection of one another. What if we just give up the boundaries? We can work together to create a equal and balanced world.
ReplyDeleteChina is a multi-ethnic and culture's country. We have 56 ethnic group. And every place have their different local languages. These languages almost like Chinese but we call all of these 'Chinese'. It's interesting. I can't understand what the people say in Shanghai and Guangzhou or Xizang. Also, we have different customs. For example: in Spring Festival, northerners always eat dumplings and southerners always eat rice balls.

ReplyDelete"One World, One Dream." In this world, there are 224 countries, it means there are 224 cultures, even that's an island country. They can be totally different, so we should understand and learn the other cultures. It's impossible that make war with each country. Now more and more people speak English, that's a good way to help us live together, we can have more communications. We have the United Nations, WTO and so on. People set up these organization for peace and fair. We have a lot of good bases, so we should be more united. Can you image the damage that a war makes, country will break up, people will be homeless.

Live together with other people is ever very difficult, because we need to deal with different behaviors, often a very different from ours. Therefore, everyday almost all people are required to learn how to live with other people, and to understand that we need to think about the other to live in a society. However, sometimes, people cannot understand it, so they try to overpass others, creating argues and wars. I wish all people could understand each other and learn how to live together in a same place. I'm sure we would have a better world.

ReplyDeleteI think there's no way that two different civilizations can live together and not having any fights one reason is because each civilization have their own culture and because maybe in some cultures they do something that may offend others cultures, i think they can have peace with each other but never living in the same country, but a very important thing is that we can learn more things from people with different cultures than from people with same cultures as we, and living together with them can complete our lives, and make a more shiny and colorful life
I think two different cultures living together in peace is no problem. I don't know why people think is culture cause the war. I believe my god, you believe your god, there is no relationship between us. My grandmother is a Buddhist followers, but my aunt is a Christian. They still live together, religion is just a place that you can put your hope. Some countries use religion as an excuse for waging war, they want more territory and food, so they need a reason to waging war. This is just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, if people have different cultures, they can't live together in peace. Because of different religion and language. On the other hand, we wanna live in peace with each other, we don't wanna world war any more. It is not depend on us. It depends on the government. They will fight because of fossil oil, even because of a little territory. Government don't want their country to be weaker than other countries. They wanna be stronger. So they must fight that they can get everything they want.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, people can live together in peace. All people are different. They speak different language. Despite these facts everyone has human rights. Unfortunately, there are some people who are racists. Sometimes people forget about everything when they talk about natural resources and money. There are a lot argues about this between countries. I think it can cause a war. People must learn the past to not repeat mistakes which happened a long time ago.
I live at the dorm. We have a lot students from different countries. I think it is a good experience for me. I understood that different cultures can live together in peace despite their religion, language and etc.
There are 56 nations in my country, they have different education background. So, I think they can't live together in peace. About the war, a lot of people died because of the war. The violent clashes only add to mutual hatred.We must begin by acknowledging the hard truth: We will not eradicate violent conflict in our lifetimes.Among the biggest risks the world faces this year is that one or both will break down amid escalating violence.

Even though sometimes people argue or fight with something. i believe as long as people live with moral, it is possible that different culture people live together. By the way, it is also a good opportunity to know and understand different culture form different places.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think it matters that people who are from different cultures live together. As we all know, people who live in my country are all from different cultures. They can live together without any conflicts that can arise from their different cultures. Also, people who are from different cultures can learn and understand more from the other. I think it is really good.

ReplyDeleteChina don't have the thanksgiving day. And I haven't known Black Friday since I went to US last year. In this Thanksgiving day, I went to NewYork again. That is a amazing city. I like New York City. And at Black Friday, I didn't go to shopping, because it is so crowded in the street.
I think that it is not possible that different cultures' living together. Because they have different cultures, languages, foods, traditions. They can not live together. People have to agree others cultures, behaviors. But it is not normal thing. And I think that, other cultures living together can make some power war in the country. I want speak about my country. 20 years ago, Armenian people came our country. They wanted some place to live. And they lived in our some countries. But some after some years, they betrayed us and they occupied our some countries. It is more than 20 years that we don't have 20% of our land. That is why I think that different cultures can not live together.
ReplyDeleteWhat is cultures? Has a same core values, modes of communication and worldviews of different ethnic, racial, national consisting of a loose collective. This is cultures，but powerful civilization needs peace.Peace is mutual, because both sides have completely different values, so peace is not certain，So I think if there is no basis of common culture, values, effective communication, common technology base and world view, it is impossible to living together in peace.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think different cultures are good for people. Different cultures from different places. It means people can live with more styles. Every single person can feel the interesting between different cultures.The Earth becomes peaceful and people can probably be nice and kind to each other.
ReplyDeleteI think if two new cultures come together,then they can not become peaceful.Because they have different customs,they can not drop their original culture,then adapt a new culture.As for now, there are a lot of massacres are caused by the culture shock,thereupon, i believe two culture can not live together peacefully.Sometimes, you will see they get on well,but you may not know they have a tacit disagreement.everybody doesn't want to lose their benefit, they won't make a concession, that is why there are a lot controversies now. In my opinion, if everyone makes a concession, maybe impossible will become possible. Whereupon,two culture may have peace with each other.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think kinds of different cultures come together that is good for people to realize each other. Different countries have different culture. There funny, enthusiastic, graceful and friendly etc. We will learn many things when we know their culture, it will make you knowledgeble. And you will make more friends at the same time you realize cultures. That's a very important reason that my mom send me to Japan and America. She wants me to live in a envirment that different to China. I also learned many things form these two countries. I felt happy to live with my classmates. They are not Chineses, but I still can recieve their friendly when I stay with them. They helped and taught me to do a lot of things that I didn't know. I was very glad to be friend with them. So I think different cultures come together will make the world more peaceful. And I think we are doing it now!

If people with different culture are going to live on one place it is going to be like war because they have different things.It will be better if every one with different culture live on a different place.American culture are not the same with Russia. Russian culture are more different.We will be not live together on one place.
ReplyDeleteSomeone thinks people can't live together in peace with different culture. In my opinion I think we can do that. In fact The problem is not culture. We need understand each other. For example different people have different religion. Someone is Buddhist followers, someone is a Christian. Everyone has his or her own choice. We need to understand and respect their choice. The culture not cause the war. The war is not the only way to solve the problem.

Like the United States, so many immigrants once came to America to achieve their own dreams. Now, there are different races in the United States such as African American and Asian American. Fortunately, they can still live in peace. In addition, we can learn something valuable from other cultures to offset our weakness.

I was have a good thanks giving in past two years, The culture is the life of people and the thanksgiving culture it the kind of hope to the people. Also the Christmas in the United state, it is such as Chinese new year and every kid looking forward for that. Because that kind of hope, the people and power to work, that is kind of culture. For thanksgiving, I wish everyone has a warm place, and spent with family. Hoping every one have enough food and living happiness.

ReplyDeletethanksgiving falls on the fourth thursday of november, a different date every year. the president must proclaim that date as the official celebration.
thanksgiving is a time for tradition and sharing. even if they live far away, family members gather for a reunion at the house of an older relative. all give thanks together for the good things that they have.
in this spirit of sharing, civic groups and charitable organizations offer a traditional meal to those in need, particularly the homeless. on most tables throughout the united states,foods eaten at the first thanksgiving have become traditional.
what should we thank?
the thankful great universe provides the environment of existence for us and give us sunlight,air, water and everything in keeping with we existence of space, bring storm to let us accept to toughen for us, bring to us mysterious let us look for.
the thankful parents give us the life, make us feel the merriment of the human life, feel the genuine feeling of the human life, feel the comity of the human life, feel happiness of the human life, also feel hardships and pain and sufferings of the human life!
the thankful teacher works with diligence and without fatigue everyday of teach, give us knowledge ability, put on the wing which flies toward the ideal for us.
the thankful classmate and friend grows up road of, let i no longer standing alone in the itinerary of life; the with gratitude is frustrated and let us become in a time the failurestronger.
It is never a easy thing to be living in a different culture groups.Different culture have different lifestyles and religion. For example,even the Catholic and Christians have hard time to agree on the holy god.The U.S is a really big country within many different races. They came from every corner of the world. It is impossible for human-beings to live together in a colorful cultures' environment. In the beginning ,there must be many little wars and one big wars to unite the different cultures to accept the differances between the races.
ReplyDeletepeople from different culture is very hard to live in the same place without fighting. but if they were forced to do so or they can control their mind, then it would not very hard. for example, most people believe in god, and if god said they mustn't hurt people then they wouldn't. besides , when everybody is nice and kind to each other, there were no reason for war to emerge. everything depend on each person.

Having taught international students for a number of years, I have to say the differences that exist between cultures are smaller than the common goals and desires that the people of the world share. Unfortunately, countries still have a long way to go when it comes to living side by side in peace. Your comments reflect these contradictions.
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on what their traditions. For example I can fit in the life in America because there not not too many different traditions. The only different is hard for me to fit in is food, but it's not a big deal for me. But for some other cultures it will be hard for them to fit in another culture. For example the people for north Korea people it will be hard to fit in, because they still live in a seal society.

There are 56 different nations live in china and the traditions of these nations are great different. Some nation doesn't eat pork, some nation speak different languages, and some nations have different religions. But we dwell together peaceful. Because we understand and respect each other.
ReplyDeleteMy country China have 56 ethnic group, and different ethnic group in china have different culture but althougu we have so many culture but they all live in peace and the reason is that they all respect to all the other culture, so I think not even in china, in the whole would of they respect to other cultures they can live in peace!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first Thanksgiving day in US. I thought we will have turkey before. But not. Like some Festivals in China people don`t use traditional to celebrate the festivals but we can feel the festivals in our heart.

ReplyDeleteIt's my first year spent the Thanksgiving in america. i went to NY. I haven't seen one native american in this big city. Think of the war happened one hundred years ago, I guess everybody will have the same choice like the puritans. As everyone has their own desire, puritans had better weapons and more people. They had their awesome plans as well so they could win the lands easily. Sooooooo, knowledge is everything!
