Journal Question #6

This is a picture of people voting.  The big news in the United States, of course, is the presidential election, held on November 6th.  However, a lot of people voted before 11/6 - as shown in the photograph - as many states permit "early voting."  In any case, by the end of the day on Tuesday, November 6th, Americans will have chosen their next president, Barack Obama or Mitt Romney.  The election happens every four years, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.  Please write your reactions to this year's presidential election.

  1. Actually, I don't know many information about American presidential election. I just hear my friends talk about it. However, as far as I am concerned, I think Obama fits American presidential better. As I know, in the past four years. The United States came out from the financial crisis step by step. Obama paid a lot of energy for the United States. That's why I choose Obama to be the next president.

  2. I support Obama. He said:"I think many people should be recognized by the possession of a firearm, the AK-47-type rifle by army soldiers, rather than criminals. Such guns should appear in the battlefield, rather than a city street. I will continue, and the two parties members, religions groups and won-govenmental organizations agreed to reduce gun violence."As we know,In the United states, about 81 Americans dead for gun violence,so I think gun control is good for America. So I support Obama.

  3. We spend lots time study the American Vote in history class. I support Obama.Because Because his standpoint in “Is China an economic or military threat to the US” is more friendly than Romney.Romney just has put china as the enemy, if he becomes the president that will lead to a “worsening of relation” between China and America. I think American and China is friend. And in China we also have the president transition now.

  4. The campaigns between the candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney for the presidential election is so suspended that we can not predict who will be the next 45th president of America until the sixth of November. As a foreigner, I think I am better stay quiet and just pay attention to the progress of the presidential race. To some extent, politics decide a nation's fate. Despite of the result, citizens all have a common wish that live better move forward. So, the people who will be voted in should take big responsibility for The United States. Let us just look forward the number bouncing to the 270 and wait for a better future.

  5. I have done a lot of research and comparison between the two candidates in the class US History class. We had a debate about who we support in the class. I support Obama because of said he would cut the tax of the people with low income and that's what he had done. He also stated that small business hire more workers, their tax will be cut. Romney claimed that he would lower the tax of the country but stay the income of the government the same. He have been asked for tons of time that how he will do that, but he refused to tell us. As a result I support Obama as the next president of the United State of America.

  6. Look to the example of China and the United States, the form of government has its own defects. The two-party system and the one-party system are always ironic, and politicians will always be politicians. All statements are for their own interests and the group who support him. So I do not tend to whom. And those of politicians who are supported, are to protect the interests of our own.

  7. i'm not really understand that how much will election affect a country. and this is the first time i saw American president election. i knew that president Obama’s campaign spent more than $1 billion on the 2012 election, but his top advisers have a message for future candidates: “You can’t buy the White House.” and Mitt Romney’s senior adviser in Florida has given up on the state. in my opinion, regardless of who will be the president, the point is make this country be stronger and stronger.

  8. Some people don't like Romney, some people think Obama is not a good leader. In my opinion, both Obama and Romney are nice. Both of them want to give the United States a good future. But their have different ways. I think they should work together. And also the Republican and the Democrat shouldn't always compete with each other. Sometime the two party can work together. This will make the government become stronger.

    1. If the government become stronger, it damages citizen's benefits. Thanks to two different parties compete each other, They both want to get more support from citizen. As a result two parties compete each other and watch each other. Please think about it. On the condition that the congress are the same party's people, I swear they will make benefits for themselves.
the rights and power should belong to citizen.

  9. Romney and Obama both have leadership and have great opinions to make the USA better. Obama gave many great speeches. So many Americans believe that he can lead the USA. Maybe good speeches are a great point of the election. You give opinions that you have in your mind. And make the crowd believe you that you can help them. I think Obama won because of his speeches.

  10. From Patricia:

At the beginning I want to say that I don't really understand about politic, but I like barack obama, I knew he would win.
This year is the first time I saw american elections; is not a thing that I like to do but it is fine. I saw the other day the elections on the TV for one reason , I have to finished my homework , maybe I don't like it because I'm from america.
But I'm living in america for a year so I should begin to take an interest for more american things, most of the people in the dorm, like barack obama because he is the first black man in the white house ( I agree with them).
But in fact I'm exciting of having seen the 2012 elections between Romney and Obama

  11. Firstly, I congratulate Barack Obama won his second term of president. I'm sorry. I'm not very like Romney because in debate of foreign policy. Romney seemed like does have his own opinions. He followed Obama's ideal. He was trying to make citizen to focus on China. Such as national debt and the American factory on China. However, if we search more information about it, we can tell The U.S only has 20% goods made in China, and the most of goods is clothing. On the other hand, Chinese import 55% product of technology, like apples. I didn't count other goods, automobile, appliance. Now, we can Romney say he want to remove the factory from China back to America. Obviously it can't helps a lot for more people get a job.

  12. From Stepheny:

As a foreigner, I don't care who won the election. There are few differences, like Obama is gentle to China, but Romney treats China as an enemy. My opinion is the president is just a tool. He serves for the richest and the most powerful people. As we know, economy is the root of a country. So the election is just a race between the people who are behind two parties. And these people, consists of the bankers and the bosses of a lot of corporations, just care about the money and the benefits.

  14. I just spent a day watching the three debates between President Obama and Governor Romney on Youtube yesterday. i am excited that President Obama won the election, and i want to congratulate him to be the president of the United State of America! As we all know, during the last four years president Obama did a great job for the United States. For example, he adjusts the income for the classe moyenne, he helps most of people get the some of insurance, he traveled every 50 states in the United States and Condolence the local people, he stopped the war between the United States and Middle East, he killed Osama bin Laden and so on. The most excited thing is the Election Night Victory Speech. I like the way of Obama's speech.i hope he will continue to lead Americans going well.

  15. I have watched the President election with my homestay family. They regarded it very serious. The debates between the two candidates are wonderful. For me, I prefer Obama to Romney. It seems Obama represents the middle class and poor class. The guys behind Romney are the rich people who only take a little part of society. What's more, Obama's policy to China is more gentle. So, as a chinese student in America, I support Obama.

  16. From Brian Shen:

Different people have different opinions, some people support Obama, some
people think Romney will be a good president. I think, both Obama and
Romney are unexceptionable. Both of them want to help the United States to
become better. Brian Qian said he wanted Obama and Romney work together.
And also the Republican and the Democrat shouldn't always compete with
each other, I disagree with that, I think competition is a good way to improve
each other, just like we can learn a lot from a exam, we can know what we
missed what should be improved, so I think competition is necessary.

  17. American presidential election is attractive recently. It became the focus of debate. Obama didn’t let us down, he won the election. Obama is an energetic person, he represents the United States so he can help America be more energetic. He enjoys fighting for America, and he said it was a sacred obligation. In the past years, we all saw that he helped to recover American economy and made protection for economy safety development. Besides, he signed for Health care reform bill,it reduced the cost of medical treatment. His ways to manage the government is total different from Bush or any one else. Obama share no effort in the performance of his duty for America, he should win the election.I remember he won the Nobel Peace Prize. American citizens should be proud of him. All in all Obama is a great president

  18. If i i have to choose one of the candidates between Obama and Romney, i will authentically choose Obama. Because, focus on the issues about the relationship with China. I think obama's notion is much better than Romney, These two biggest country can not leave each one. Also, the Obama's winning is not surprising to me, because Obama's last debate is really great, and some of the Romney's supporters also admired Obama, though they do not support Obama .And in some issues that are focused by the citizens, the Obama's answer is much more convincing. I believe that is a big reason that offer Obama win the election. In a word, the election had already finished, whatever who won, i believe the winner will lead The USA to a higher level, Obama will not let his supporters down. And Obama will be a talented president in next four years, also i hope the America will be utopia with the led of Obama.

  19. I feel not surpris for Obama is next presidential but I am not very show solicitude for run for president, because in chain we don`t have that.
I feel rejoice for Obama was wining because Obama thinks we need
help more people and we need love not war.I know war is a dread thing so I like Obama more than Mitt Romney.
I like Obama more than Mitt Romney because I like basketball, and Obama also like basketball. He always invite some famous basketball player into White House so I think Obama is a nice people.
    So I like Obama

I want to say I support Obama even I don't know the main reason.Actually I do not care about this election at all because we never use
vote to choose the president in China.I think Obama is a good president cause he said" That’s what we do in America. We take care of
our own. We take care of our veterans. We take care of your families."He taks care of the Americas,so that is the reason he won the election.
    I suppor him ever.

  21. This was my first experience with American Presidential Election staying in U.S. I could see how american people care about the government, it's very different from my country, where people are obligated to vote and many people don't care about the government. The people's reaction over the election made me feel happy, because you can just have a better country believing in a better government, and it's what american do.

I was hoping Obama's win, because I think he has ideas that are more adequate for the future of the country, supporting our actual society. However I was against Romney too, because I think he was with prejudiced ideas like his idea about gay marriage, and he was saying that he would try to control South America's interest. Of course I didn't like what he said about South America, because I'm from there.

I am happy with the results :)

  22. November 6, just like what I expected, Barack Obama win the election. I have no idea about the result of the election, because I don’t know either Obama or Romney. If I am American, then I will know Obama and Romney very well. The reason is I think my parents or grandparents will tell me a lot about Obama and Romney, also I will get a lot of information about them, then I can tell what my feeling is. My homestay mother told me that she likes Obama, because she thinks Obama will put more money and energy on poor people. Of course she belongs to those people.
But for me, because I am Chinese, I prefer Obama to Romney. From their lectures, I can see their attitudes toward China. The Romney’s is too tough, but the Obama’s is relatively mild. That’s why I prefer Obama to Romney.

  23. I like Obama better, that might be one of the reason why he won, But I don't really know about him, I did some research on him, and he surprised me when i found out that he went to law school. I think Chinese will be happy about he being the president instead of Mitt Romney, I don't know about Mitt Romney at all, but he just not seem nice to me.

  24. I saw the debate and I like Obama better. I do not really care who won, because I think no matter who become the president, both of them will do their best for the United state. But for China, Obama's ideas give me more reassurance. Also, about the nuclear in Iran, president Obama has more stable idea. If Romney won, it may have a war and maybe break the balance in the earth. In his speech, he promised;" we as a people will get there!" I really hope he will do well and best wishes to him. After this, there will be more challenges coming, but I trust him will do his best in the future. Congratulations, President Obama.

  26. Actually, I don't really care about the election so much, even in my country or in the United State. Cause this election is meant a lot to American and many classes required me to talk about it, I have to pay a bit attention on it. In my opinion, Obama is deserved to be a president more than Romney. I thought so since i heard he talks about China problem. It's not very wise to do that. this election has caught a lot of attention from everybody, and he said that means China is the enemy. That is gonna damage the relationship between the USA and China. If I could vote, I would definitely vote for Obama!!!!!

  27. In fact, before the election results haven’t out, I thought Obama would become the President of America.
Barack Hussein Obama II, he was born on August 4,1961 in the Honolulu of Hawaii, and he attained the Columbia University Literature bachelor’s degree in1983. Then he attains the Harvard University law school doctor of law degree in 1991. And he got married in 1992 and currently has two daughters. On November 4, 2008, he was elected to be the President of America. I think Obama’s advantage has the following points:
    · In office president himself has strong campaign superiority;
    · Barack Obama “ complete’ s men,” have many campaign good helper;
    · Barack Obama is far more popular above Romney among the young people and women;
And I think the most important thing is his impression is good. As we all know, he is very clever, young, energetic, vigorous, and powerful. Also, he is good at getting close to people and listening to the others.
At last he career-best became the President of next four years.

  28. Actually, I don’t really care about the presidential election, everyone has their opinion about who is the best president for the following 4 years. No matter who becomes the president, I believe that he will do his best to improve the economy in his country. I don’t know whether the election by the people is good or bad for the presidential election, but at least it is the reflection of Democracy and it is better than the method that china use to choose the president

  29. First of all, congratulate Obama's successful to reelection of the President of the United States. In fact, I don't anything about presidential election until November 6, the day for announce. Three little girls in the Stasio Hall Dorm. They stay until 12 o'clock. When we heard Mr.President is Obama in next day, we are so happy and someone said we need a party! Just kidding. But they drew some picture in the whiteboard to congratulation.

  30. For my opinion, Obama is better than Romney for now. There are some reasons for thinking that. First of all, Obama was last president, before he elected and he had some experience as a president. Also he was kind, helpful, good president for USA. I can not say that if Romney elected as a president, he would be bad president. But I think that Obama is better than Romney. And I am glad that Obama re-elected. But I am not happy that people elected Yes on question 1 in the Maine. It is not appropriate for my country.

  31. As far as the election goes, I feel so excited. Maybe not because of the results are same as what I want, but at the same time I'm excited of how close the votes are during the presidential election. As a chinese, even I don't know a lot of a lot of America policies, not really join in american life style, but I still watched the three debates between Obama and Romney. For the first one, Obama is not well prepared obviously. Romney gave as lots of numbers to prove that the advanteges and disadvantages of America's Economic. For the second one and the last one, Obama was getting better and better. I think the debate is a important place to show their political ideal, and a good index for citizien to vote for them.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Actually, Obama was once a great president, and I believe that he will still succeed in second term of president. In his first term, he has been trying to reform medical system, because it is inconvenient and expensive to go to a hospital. In addition, Obama has been improving educational level of colleges, although we all know that American colleges are the best in the world. So American colleges will be better and better due to his reform. Also, I think Obama is more friendly to China than Romney.

  33. I like the president Obama because he has more power to be a good president and give America more thing to be a great country. I dont like Romney because he said about Russia bad things.
It is really good that Obama is president again. He is leader of America.
Both presidents had closest voices. Around half states of US were voting for Romney but he did a big mistake. The mistake was about Russia. He said Russia is enemy.
I think people did a right that they were voting to Obama . Obama is the best president of America.

  34. From Alexander:

If I was an American, I would vote for Obama. I read a lot of articles about him. He is going to decrease taxes of income. He wants everybody to pay their fair taxes. Obama has been working to improve an education in America. He also wants to give the basic medical care to everybody who is an american. He has been providing more jobs for the jobless people. Obama made a lot of stuff for America.
I am happy became a president for the next 4 years. I don't really like Romney. He said that Russia is the biggest enemy of USA.

  35. I think Obama is better than Romney. President Barack Obama won re-election to a second term in the White house on Tuesday, television networks projected, beating Republican challenger Mitt Romney after a long and bitter campaign. Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He worked hard. His story is the American story — values from the heartland, a middle-class upbringing in a strong family, hard work and education as the means of getting ahead, and the conviction that a life so blessed should be lived in service to others.

  36. I think as a foreigner I will care about the policies of next US president. And a right leader of a dominant country is very important for this world. A wrong president can lead the world to war, a right president can lead the world to bright. As people know, Obama advocate cooperate with China, but Romney emphasize competition with China. China is a country with very large population, China has lots global business, and China is the second largest foreign trade country. If Romney has been selected, probably the policies especially on business between China and US will have lots of different, that is not good for many American companies and Chinese company, that also will cause a storm on economics. Now, we already know the next president is Obama, I have to say, it's a good result many people expected.
