Journal Question #7 (2010-2011)

Write about one that you have either been in, or known about. Can anything be done to avoid or minimize the effects of natural disasters?

what i can say.. i'm the first one. again.
ReplyDeleteMy parents have been in a terrible hail. The hail stone's size was like a bowl!! And at that time i was only 6 months old. My parents was so scare if i get hurt from that terrible hail. But fortunate we found a place to hide , nobody get hurt.
i think the natural disaster def is the most powerful ‘weapon' in the world . it can destroy anything by seconds . and every time when the natural disaster(except earth quake) happen , it is like the time for human to pay back, cause human don't know how to 'respect' natural .
my parents and me have never been in a natural disaster.but these years i heard about the natural disaster a lot.we have been doing to much bad thing on the earth.there are 2 earthquake
ReplyDeletein these 2 years.i saw a video of it. it is terrible. it only take 5 minutes to destroy the whole city.i m lucky i m never been in it.i also feel sorry for the people who been in the natural disaster
On 1998, I even can't remember which day this flood happened. My city was divided by yangtze river. there was a huge flood which couldn't happen in a hundred year. our whole family was sitting in a black car when this happened. we tried to back to our home, but the height of the water is going beyond our door. what we could do was sitting in the car and waiting somebody helped us. we couldn't move the car in the water.
ReplyDeleteuntil now i still have a little memory about this afternoon even though i was 3 years old at that time. i don't know how the things was ended and how our car was moved.
these years, the whole world happen a lot of disasters. every time i see the news about somewhere happen this kind of things, i feel distressed.
if we can treat the nature more kindly. will this situation be better？

ReplyDeleteI am so lucky that my family and i have never been in a natural disaster. But i know a natural disaster happened few years ago. It was a earthquake and many people died in that disaster. My family felt very sad when we heard about the disaster and we all did our best to help the people who had been in the disaster.
ReplyDeleteAt last i have my answer for Sunny's question: Yes, i do think the situation be better if we can treat the nature more kindly. Maybe we should be nicer to our HOME.
I live in shanghai. This city is near sea. So in the summer some of typhoon's boundary always pass our city. A few years ago a strong typhoon passed Shanghai, Before typhoon passed shanghai, the government notice us we don't have school at that day. So we are happy about no school, like a snow day in here.But we are afraid the typhoon cause the heavy rain. Finally this typhoon passed shanghai smoothly, so we felt OK of that typhoon.
ReplyDeleteMy family and I have never been in a disaster,we are lucky.But we still remember the earthquake happened and many lives were taken .We felt very sad on it .My family and I tried our best to help the people who needed help. I donated a lot of money .My classmates and I were scared,some people even cried.And some people's family members died in the earthquake,I was very sad ,I would never forget that day.
ReplyDeletei have been in typhoon,and it destroyed trees,windows,the traffic lights and also some cars parked on the side of the road.Huge raining and wendy.i am scary.After the typhoon,the government made breakdown gang fix the traffic lights,remove the dead trees,and comfort the people.

Fortunately, i have be to Wenchuan which is a province in China on June 2008 one month after Wenchuan earthquake with a psychiatrist went to there to do crisis intervention. That was a terrible natural disasters. Over forty thousand people dead and two hundred thousand people got hurt because this natural disasters. When i went to there i saw a lot of the dead bodies did have enough bag to put. So they just used some boxes to cover the dead bodies. Some of the dead bodies expend and push the covers up. I could see the dead bodies clearly. Why this natural disaster can get the destructive like that. Just because the government corruption and inability. They want to get interest, so they snatch the interest for the people. How they can make it true? They just scamp work and stint materia for the building which is the people live in. A lot of the people dead because the building are not firm. So in my opining, the most important to protect people not get hurt is government have to responsible to people. And that is Thank you Mr.Griffin.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Hanoi so I had never seen a big typhoon or something threats to human existence like that. However,in the other city around Hanoi, sometime it has a lots of big storm, hurricane or tornado.It killed a lot of people. There are many family could not find their family members.More than these, a lot of houses, roads, schools was broken. It's really dangerous for people around the world.
ReplyDeleteNatural disasters are unavoidable, we may know it's coming, but no way to stop its attacks on the people.I can say that me and my family is very lucky, we have never been natural disasters, but we know that many of our compatriots died in the earthquake, we are willing to very sad.I hope that natural disasters will be reduced, and that people do not have to worry about it,so the people can live a happy day.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, my hometown Ningbo is the city which hardly have nature disasters. Typhoon will go through my city every year, but that's not strong enough to call it nature disaster. So I am so lucky that I I've never been in a nature disaster even though there are several typhoons go through mt city each year. But I heard there was a snow disaster happened two years ago in south of china. The snow continued for almost a week, sometimes with rain. After the rain and the snow freezing, the car even can't drive. People can't go everywhere. At that time, my aunt was on the high way, she can't move any more because of the ice cover the highway. She have to stay on the highway with other driver for about 4 days. The government brought the food ,water and other stuffs that we need in the daily life. That's a big nature disaster. I don't think every nature disaster can be avoided, but I believe more and more nature disasters can be avoided with the human raising techology.
ReplyDeleteThere are several typhoon through Shanghai in 2008 . In that time I was grade 8 , I met a typhoon after school. It really was a frightening typhoon . darkly sky , strongly wind and with rain . I was a rain man when I come back home .

Luckily, I have been living in a good environment and I needn’t to face to these terrible natural disasters. Unluckily, I have no experience about that. Also, I have less to write for my ELL homework…
ReplyDeleteMy parents have met an earth quark when they were children. They lived in a big tent with their neighborhood together and all the people were afraid to live in the house because they didn’t know if there would have another earth quark.
I think we can learn some skill about how to reduce mischief. However, no one can predict what will happen in the future. And no one can control anything and avoid all the risks even he know everything. So if you have something want to do and you haven’t finished yet, start doing it as quickly as possible! Don’t waste your time!
Shanghai is a very good city to live,because it's not many natural disasters,so my family didn't meet the big natural disaster.But we saw many pictures and watched news on the TV.The people is poor when they met natural disaster.Last week,my grandfather told me "The buildings covered over people in Taiwan."That's typhoon.

In my province. It does have lots of typhoons there. Luckily, none of my home members have been in a nature disaster. Since my city is not so close to the sea. The typhoons can not always cause big damages in my city. But sometimes it does. The rain is so heavy and the wind is so strong that some trees were killed. Fortunately, we can always have a day off at such scary days. I hope that I WILL NEVER experience any nature disaster in my entire life!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't experienced this nature disaster yet, so I have no idea how terrible are them. I lived in Beijing when I was in China. I sympathize with people who suffer from disasters, but I thing that is not special, because of the person activity, the nature injured. Injured people can angry,is injured nature can not be angry? These phenomena are warning the human: the will kill themselves!

ReplyDeleteI was met nature disaster before. In 5.12.2008. At that time I and all the people in Sichuan met a very big nature disaster. The mountain was move the roads are broke the building are broke, and some people are died. It is so sad to talk about this. I watch the news at that time. Everyday the police and army find the lucky people. But most of the time they find the body. And the most important thing is so many young students are died in this nature disaster. This was a This is a horrible natural disasters. His name is earthquake.

That was a earthquake in Tangshan.
My grandmother and my grandfather used to work there.
Many people died in that earthquake, but my grandparents did not.
I am not even know why they are safe.
I am really really scared about the nature disaster, because we can't know when they are coming.
Zhongshan is a peaceful and safe place that i've ever live. Sometime it might has a strong wind,but that's all.
ReplyDeleteThe disaster that i'm thinking is the earthquake.As i know, it might has three huge earthquake in China till 1949. they are in Tangshan,Wenchuang,and Yushu. Millions of people die because of the earthquake and people can do nothing except run when the earthquake happened.
Although people knows that it will has some different natural phenomena, such as the water will be dirty and hot, the animal will have some strange action, the sky will be bright at night, it still cannot avoid or minimize the effects of the earthquake. I think the way to avoid or minimize the effects is to teach people what they should do if the earthquake happen or after that and practice more in the normal time.The scientist and the government should tell the people what will happen before the earthquake makes a bad effect but not keep silent or give the wrong information for the people.
So many years ago, in Barcelona, there were a lot of tornados in the same day. They weren’t really dangerous because none died but they destroyed a lot of houses and furniture of the street. I was there when it had happened. I was in a plane because I was coming back from my family vacation and the pilot said us that we couldn’t land so we were to other airport. The flight was terrible too much turbulence.

Last year in the north of Spain there was a hurricane where the winds blew 280 kilometers per hour. My father has a house there and part of the house and garden was destroyed. My father was there during the storm and I was very afraid for him.

Natural disasters are horrible and very sad for the people.
