Journal Question #14
How can you speak English more often? Lots of you have said that, because there are so many Chinese students here, it's hard for you to improve your English - or to speak English outside of class. So, here's your chance to brainstorm ideas for speaking more English. Come up with ideas, even if they seem a little crazy, to help yourself and your friends find more opportunities to chat in English. I'm listening!

It's hard to speak English when u can speak u Chinese.
ReplyDeleteSometimes if u speak English to them,they want u to speak Chinese.If there didn't have any one can speak Chinese,you"need"to speak English!

I think if there are many Chinese, it is easy for us to speak our mother language.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about one way to solve this problem is to make friends with Americans. This will make you speak more English when you are with your American friends.
When we are taking the classes which have a lot of Chinese, we should sit separately. Don't sit with Chinese, try to sit with Americans.
However, in the end, we are still Chinese forever. CHiense is our first language. Sometimes, we can't help speaking CHinese.
I think maybe some Americans can stand us. Because many Chinese are learning Spanish, they can't speak Spanish all the time. They still can't help speaking English. It's the same as us.
I know this serious problem happens in ell class very often. I think~~the basic deal is that everyone has to realize the purpose of the reason he came here. And they would like to make more friends positively.
ReplyDeleteI think it's hard to speak English with Chinese student. So i don't think that many Chinese students learning English in the same class room is a good way. Sometimes we just cannot control ourselves to talk to each other in Chinese.

ReplyDeleteI listened more English songs and watched more English movies.
I downloaded English books to listen.
I even watched my Super Junior videos in English sub.
And of course I learned my Toefl and SAT test.
But I should speak more English!!
SO I SEE WE SHOULD HAVE THE AMERICAN GF OR BF !THEY CAN MAKE US ENGLISH BETTER AND BETTER!!ENGLISH IS IMPORTANT TO US !! WE SHOULD MORE PRACTISE !!

i think the best way to speaking more english is live with an american family,but the point is school need give us more vacation, then we can live with hostfamily,and speaking more english.
Most of you recommend making more American friends, which is a good idea. What about in class and in the dorm: how can you speak (or read) more English in those places?
ReplyDeleteActually I think make friends with the American is useless, because the main problem is still on yourself. Even if you make a lot American friends, doesn't mean that you will speak a lot english. My main point is if you really want to speak english, you can speak wherever u want, whenever you want. So I think the best choose is speak english even if you talk with the chinese!!!

ReplyDeleteIt is quite weird to speak English to Chinese, I think. And due to the culture differences, sometimes it is not very easy to find a topic to talk with your American friend. So I think we sometimes need to get involved in American culture, like watch their movies, listen to their musics. You don't have to do this, but it is better to know them better. In the dorm, we can talk to our dorm parents. Telling them what happened in the school today is a good idea. They will also share something with you.

ReplyDeleteIt's really hard for us to speak English to each other all day, because we speak Chinese for more than 16 years. And our English is not good enough to express all we want to say.
ReplyDeleteSo I think the best way to speak English more often is to make more American friends,when we spend time with them, of course we have to speak English,it's a good way to improve our English.
An other way is to read. We can learn a lot of new words and representation from reading, which can increase attraction so that we will love to speak English more.
it is really hard to talk without chinese. And it's not a easy thing to talk with a chinese without chinese but english. i think trying to talk more with american friend is a good way to improve english
