Journal Question #8
If someone you know from your country was thinking of coming to Thornton Academy, what would you tell him or her? What advice would you give this person about how to prepare to live and study here? What could you tell him or her about TA, Saco, Maine, and the USA that he/she might not know? What should he/she expect as he/she prepares to come here?

I will tell him here have many people can speak Chinese.

You don't need to worry about the language.
You can learn more Chinese here,your Chinese will get better !
You need to bring some food or noodle.
You will be hungry everyday~
TA is a high school.
There have many Chinese people in the dorm.
Maine have many lobster.
YOU CAN LEARN MORE CHINESE!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteI think the first thing I will do, is to tell him what have I learn since I got into TA. Then, I may introduce some of my TA's friend to him, and maybe I will invite him to TA stay for a few week during the summer. And, I will also remind him what should he bring when he study in TA. And of course is to take care of him, and hope he will has fun during studying in TA.

We have a lot of activities here.Our school's football is the best!

and u will never feel lonely or get a bad homesick if u choose TA
things are very different between USA and China, but u dont need a lot of time to get used to it if u come to TA
maybe u will meet some crazy people, like carmen, but they may become ur best friend ^^
trust me, TA will be ur second home and u will never want to leave here.

ReplyDeleteI may tell my cousins that, there are lots of fun. It won't be so difficult like what you think. The school works also are easy to do. And on weekends, we usually do some shopping. But!
If there are many Chinese students... You should try your best to speak ENGLISH!!!
And I would like to say is that, there is really nice~ ^^

You can create soooooo many Chinese new words, and every dorm students will use that!!!
Finally, the dorm parents are really nice!
I think I will tell her the rules of the dorm,the teachers in the dorm,and the differences between the school here and in China those she should pay attention to.
ReplyDeleteI will tell him to bring more clothes and lotion.Because the weather here is cold and dry.ready to learn english.Dont worry about your english all the american kids here are friendly,they will help you on it.And mr griffin is a very language teacher

It's too bad so many of you are complaining about so many Chinese and speaking too much Chinese. Remember, you are responsible for your own learning. If you don't like speaking so much Chinese, don't speak so much Chinese! Find an English-speaking friend.

ReplyDeletethere are cheap clothes,but the food is expensive.and you can speak chinese everyday.
I think our school is not good, so I don't want any relative to here. student counselor are not encourage us to study. And some dorm staff are bad or there are a lot of chinese student in here, or food are always bad every day is same. But I think some teacher are good, and I think TATV is the best part of Thornton Academy.

ReplyDeleteIf someone will come to school who is from china, i'll tell him or her that the school is so good. the teacher is so kind and working hard. And the students are so good too. We have had many friends now who are Americans. THere are also many clubs in this school, and the international students in the math club really did a good job. I'm sure that you can also do well in Math. THere are also many sports we can do for each season. I'm sure you'll have a good time in Thornton Academy. Believe in me.

you can try some things that you never do it before.....
I tried lots of things here...like cooking....sawing....track.....
I never try that before....
but now I think I can do it...
TA is a place that provide chance for you !!!!
Get ready to speak English(and Chinese)all day long... Bring more clothes here, for it is cold in winter, and even in Spring. Yet, TA is a really good school. Teachers are very nice and helpful, and students are friendly. In the dorm, there are Chinese who come from all parts of China, and we enjoy life here very much. And not the last but not the least, we have a wonfderful teacher called MR. GRIFFIN!!! We love him!!!

ReplyDeleteThornton Academy is a good school .Students and teachers are nice here and the campus is beautiful.We have a lot of courses in both physical or academic field .Though you may have some problems in language , I'll help you to come over it.
ReplyDeleteSaco is a very beautiful city, though has a less number of population, but the environment here is very good. Otherwise, the people here are very friendly, teachers are very considerate care for students, and also our school provides a few challenging cources, if you interested in some subjects of these, you should take some. These are useful for you. Our school has a lot of clubs and sports teams. I think there will be a good place for you if you interested in it.
